Fox92 Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 The excitement of the Premiership is getting there. Once you are there, you realise that you are there just to make up the numbers whilst Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United battle for what really matters. I do agree. The Premier League isn't as open as what Sky suggest. I heard on the radio the other day that it is like two leagues, and I think that's the best way to describe it. In years gone by, managers have got promoted to the top flight then would be in the title race. Amazing. So better than today where the PL is dominated by money. No team will ever win the league, or challenge for it, without significant financial backing. Chelsea and Manchester City are prime examples. If we're promoted to the PL, I'd be happy with 17th position in the first season then I'd expect us to push on. To what level, I'm not sure because we'd never make the top 6 without financial backing, as I said. The best we could hope for is a solid season and a domestic trophy final, or to even win it. See Swansea, they are what we should be aiming for. They achieve while playing attractive football. I do want us to get promoted. I've been a STH at Leicester for eleven years now and I've seen us in the PL for one season (03/04). You know, I want to go to Anfield and Old Trafford again, I want us to play against Aguero, Suarez and Van Persie. The PL remains the holy grail; it's the top flight.
aussie-fox Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 I would rather finish 17th each year for the rest of my life rather then stay in the championship or be a yo-yo team.
Mark_from_USA Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 Yes. The PL here in America is taking off. Our NFL will be decreasing in the years to come. The PL is really kind of a global 'All Star' soccer league. It will only grow. Now is a good time to get established, Leicester will see global exposure it has no possibility of otherwise. I hope that, as it now is, they LCFC is a good ambassador of the good qualities of the English game as it could he played. That's an admirable position to be in. Long may it continue.
FuriousFox46 Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 I really am surprised at how ambitionless some fans are.
EnglishOxide Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 It will be great to get there but we need to give it a real go. Stick with NP and only add a few players per season (of real quality) to maintain team identity. Rather than just a club paying big wages to journeymen. Id rather go down fighting like Blackpool than hang around scraping and playing awful football like the likes of West Ham The problem is once you go up you want the target to be Europe. In the last 10 years the only clubs to have truly broken into the top 7/6 to do that have been Chelsea and Man City. The common factor being spending ****ing millions and having a merry go round of players and managers. That makes me think that mid table mediocrity awaits (at best) and unless you are winning cups its pointless. You want to go into a league with the aim of winning it and we would go nowhere near. Thats not an inferiority complex, its a realistic view of the modern money game at the top level.
ozleicester Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 two reason why yes... 1) You always want to be playing the best, it raises your level and its great to watch 2) Its on TV here in OZ, so i can see us every week YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOO Two reasons why no... 1) Eternal struggles and change, managers and players. fans bitching and moaning that we havent beaten Manure 4-0 2) having seasons where a dull 0-0 draw is an aim. The prem is the best... and that is what we should aim to be a part of.
deanolegend1989 Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 Whats exciting is the fact if we so much as drew with a big boy it would be a great day and some history for us. Winning constantly is fun etc I agree, but if were in the top league..its like just great to be a part of it despite losing alot. A good example would be say were 30-34 games gone, only a few games left..were on about 45 points or so(say 10 clear of 3rd bottom). Basically almost guarenteed safe, all the media coverage, maybe Hull come to the KP having to win to stay up(were already safe) and we put them down(Like we did to Barnsley in 98). Or maybe Man City needing to beat us to stay top..Chelsea wanting them to slip up at Leicester and then we hold them to a draw..etc etc. Basically these kinda situations for me are realistic for us and ARE very exciting to write history for us. End of the day no one remembers the Championship seasons we've had since 04..but lots know Fulham are a typical prem club. Bieng mid table prem > anything under prem.
foxfanazer Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 Surely every club should have aspirations of playing at the highest level. I'm loving this season in the second tier though and would like to see some of these players given a chance in the prem.
Crinklyfox Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 I've been a City supporter for a long time. Some of the best times have been in promotion seasons (and this feels like one) when we've been winning lots and losing few; however the seasons in the top league are what I want and so there's no way I want us to stay in the Championship. We've been away from the top for too long, they'll be a lot of fans who don't know what it's like to get the buzz when we beat the Liverpools and Man Uniteds of this world. The first target is promotion, the second target is stability, the third target is glory. Onwards and upwards.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 You're right, but the Premiership has nothing to do with the meaning of sport. This this this this
Jon the Hat Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 Beating United 1-0 at old Trafford with a Tony Cottee goal. The 3-3 against Dennis Bergkamp at Filbo (might have been some other Arsenal players on the pitch), the 5-2 Demolition of Sunderland with Heskey and Collymore up front. Even getting taken apart by a aging Robbie Fowler against Leeds. **** your Barnsleys, Wycombes, Forests, Derby's and other second tier crap. Of course we want to be in the Prem. You can't beat winning against a top side. Did I mention UEFA cup against Athletico Madrid with one Christian Vieri in the side?
Jace Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 Unfortunately we are not even a yo yo team anymore
Langston Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 Definitely, but only because being a PL club will mean being able to attract the calibre of players that could win us trophies. I'd love to see us have proper stabs at cup competitions as a top flight club again.
1964FOX Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 The biggest issue about being in the premier league is away day ticket prices. Ridiculous at some grounds and will clearly limit the amount of away days people will be able to do when clearly people will want to go to the big clubs. Having said that of course I want my club in the top division. Be even nicer if we could become an established side in there in the top half of the table.
Captain... Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 Do you want to beat Leeds on Saturday? Do you want to win this fvcking league? (to all those people not sure if they want us in the premiership, just think how fvcking gutting it will be if we don't go up this year) Then yes we all want to be in the premiership. Do we want to be like Cardiff and Hull selling our souls to appeal to international markets? No, Do we want to be like QPR or Crystal Palace, buying 11 new players that don't give a shit about this club? No, but there is another way Do we want to be like Southampton and Swansea, praised for our football, attitude, financial approach, winning cups and England caps, playing in Europe? that should be a yes And there would be no shame in being a Norwich, West Ham, West Brom or even Stoke, I know they aren't having the best season but they have had some very memorable games and very good times in the last few years. We are not going to compete with the Big 6 at the moment, and not for a long while, but that doesn't mean we won't take points off them and they are always sweet moments. I know the prices and the bullshit in the prem can be disgusting at times, but we can be part of the solution, not part of the problem.
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 Wouldn't it be nice to be first match on MOTD? Possibly even sweeter - I want the clip of Liam Moore celebrating after his goal against Wigan to be the Leicester-related clip in the opening titles. Couldn't be more passionate! Or should I say PASSHUNate.
Dan Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 How else are we supposed to qualify for the Champions League? You could become champions of somet... oh wait.

There's absolutely no way I'm handing fifty notes over to Abramovich. I definitely want us to go up for logical reasons but there'll be catches. Doing about half as many away games being the main one I can think of.

I think with Pearson in charge we're far more likely to go down the sensible route which Swansea/Southampton did. People saying that the league's full of mercenaries etc... it is - but if there was one man in charge of Leicester who wouldn't send us up that route then it's the one we have now.
cityfanlee23 Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 So, how much do you think Pearson would spend? 300k and 18 free transfers
foxfanazer Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 the mighty middlesboro' who got relegated? i agree, we were just "little Leicester" back then and probably will be again if we make it this time around BUT i think teams and pundits will show us a lot more respect in the premier league, however, every single game we have on sky the opposition get a rim job. Randolph Austin for Leeds Kieran "assist MACHINE" Trippier for Burnleh the whole QPR squad and 'Arry Will Hughes and Schteve just four examples from this season. happened pretty much each game last term too Can you remember when we played Newcastle on Sky in the championship a few seasons ago and they were raving about Nile Ranger being the next big thing
Pride_Of_The_Midlands Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 How else are we supposed to qualify for the Champions League? Win the FA Cup or League Cup and then win the Europa League.
Mickey O'Neil Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 We're not really a big fish though are we. Every fan should want their team to be in the top league, even if that means we lose more than we win. Agree. Just hope we get more than Derby's grand total of 11 points or whatever it was!! The first target is promotion, the second target is stability, the third target is glory. Onwards and upwards. Excellent post. DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 17 January 2014 Posted 17 January 2014 In fairness, there are about 63 trillion clubs in London and Tigers do depreciate our fanbase a fair bit Well, I have a Tiger's season ticket, and know a fair few who used to watch City, but quit because they found it boring, and seemed to have no ambition. Moving on, anyone who thinks we don't need to be in the Premiership, must be crazy. What else are we striving for?
Weller in Tights Posted 17 January 2014 Posted 17 January 2014 Well, I have a Tiger's season ticket, and know a fair few who used to watch City, but quit because they found it boring, and seemed to have no ambition. Moving on, anyone who thinks we don't need to be in the Premiership, must be crazy. What else are we striving for? Pardon! There are Tigers fans who " used to watch City, but quit because it was boring" ! And so they now regularly watch RUGBY!. So they are masochists I presume. Rugby, the biggest waste of a football pitch ever invented. Rugby, where the ball can stay in one spot, under a pile of fat blokes lying on top of each other, long enough for you to go and have a 3 course meal. Rugby, which lets be honest here, is a game for people who can't play football. Ok, you got me, can't stand the stupid excuse for a sport. Please do not retort with,"It's a man's game" as it is clearly ( as has been said many times) a waste of a football pitch.
