do we want to be in the Prem?

I want us to play entertaining football, if we 'do well' then that is a bonus but ultimately I just want to see exciting matches. I see no point in 'being Stoke'.

well at the moment,i'd rather be Stoke than us.....6 or 7 seasons in the pl...money in the bank.I'd be happy to see us finish fourth from bottom(if we get there of course) a couple of seasons mid table....then who knows. Its all about getting there at the moment.

Ridiculous thread - presumably if you're not that fussed about the premier league then you're not that fussed about promotion either? You can't have one without the other. Would you prefer us to be a mid table championship side who never achieve anything? Didn't we do that for the best part of a decade already?

Quite literally THERE IS NO POINT PLAYING IF YOU DONT WANT TO WIN! lol

History looks back on teams who have won trophies, got promoted, etc.

We've been in the Championship for long enough. Another season in it would now just feel wrong...

history will be kind to nigel pearson, for he intends to write it!

Pardon!

There are Tigers fans who " used to watch City, but quit because it was boring" !

And so they now regularly watch RUGBY!. So they are masochists I presume.

Rugby, the biggest waste of a football pitch ever invented. Rugby, where the ball can stay in one spot, under a pile of fat blokes lying on top of each other, long enough for you to go and have a 3 course meal. Rugby, which lets be honest here, is a game for people who can't play football.

Ok, you got me, can't stand the stupid excuse for a sport.

Please do not retort with,"It's a man's game" as it is clearly ( as has been said many times) a waste of a football pitch.

Your ignorance of the game says it all.

More s--t comes out your mouth, than it does your arse.

My answer to the OP is yes though as a lot of posters have pointed out, there's a lot more romance and innocence to championship and the lower leagues.

Seen a brilliant post by someone suggesting that Pearson will get questioned by media and the 7000 or so extra fans at the KP on his capabilities as manager when getting beat Tottenham narrowly at home in the Premier League...

Perfect example of this at the minute is the 'pressure' on Chris Hughton. Norwich are 5pts clear of 17th and are 12th ffs!

Despite how it's going, I'm still glad we're in the Prem.

I'd take a promotion followed by relegation (yo yo) than flirting with the play offs each year!

Seems quite a prophecy now! The perfect example ended up getting the sack too late and they went down.

I can't believe any supporter wouldn't, in sport you always aim to play at the highest level, and achieve as much as possible.

Yes the championship is cheaper, you get more games, and there are some good away days, but in my opinion, and it is an opinion those who say they prefer the championship are either making excuses for the miss management of our return, by that I mean a lack of investment in quality players.

Or because we are getting beat every week, people would like to return to a league, which the players we have can compete in.

For me, and for a lot of reasons, I want to stay up, it's the best league in the world, with some of the best players, and it secures the long term future of the club, but I want a team that can compete in the league, as watching our lot is soul destroying, and whoever decided to go with this squad needs to have a long hard look at themselves, because I think it was clear to everyone but them that alot of the squad were not good enough, wether that be Pearson or the owners.

I could have written that word for word..

I don't buy all this "best league in the World" stuff, but I do want us to play at this level because it's the highest tier. The only sad thing is, with all the money involved, a team like ourselves will never challenge to win it without sufficient backing (ala Chelsea and Manchester City).

It'd be nice to see us as an established top flight club again, challenging for domestic trophies. Would love to see us finally lift the FA Cup.

"best league in the World" = worst defending in the world.

I agree with the sentiment of what you say but I beleive the prenier league as an open competition is now actually quite boring. OK so some of the football is good but for most sides there really isn't anything much to play for apart from just surviving. 4 - 6 sides can win it and that is unlikely to change much. At the start of each season we all know which sides these are. There are a few notable excpetions every now and then but pretty much not.

Man utd will probably spend around 150m this January and will soon have the first billion pound squad. Sides like ours can never compete with that. The glamour has gone and for most sides it is just a continuous struggle. Look at the sides at the bottom now. Pretty much as you would expect. The gap between those in the premier league and the rest grows each season and this is a very bad thing for football in this country. Sky have done much for the game but have essentially been the tool which has ruined the excitement of true competition.

Of course we should strive to be part of it but struggling towards the bottom is probably the most we can ever hope for.

I understand what you are saying, but if we can establish ourselfs as a mid table side, winning as much as losing , getting results against the big boys, and then giving the cups a good go, like the Oneill days, we were happy then, and I would be happy now.

Ok we will never win the league, but with the ambition of our owners, a top six finish in time, would be a realistic target, and European football could be a possibility, so the season wouldn't be boring if we competed in this league.

Has got to be better than the championship, a division which we cannot afford to be in financially, the owners cannot keep writing off big debts, and once the parachute payments have gone, we would have to offload a lot of the better players, just to balance the books, and then be happy to hope to make it back up to a league, that a lot are saying they don't want to be in.
