Guest Col city fan Posted 30 January 2014 Posted 30 January 2014 I thought this was going to be a thread about the amazing contribution I've made to Foxes Talk!
The Year Of The Fox Posted 30 January 2014 Posted 30 January 2014 Dont see why everyone idolises this drunk fool just because he's a city fan. Needs help. Or does he have some backstory that deserves him being tagged a legend? Agree. Not funny. Just odd
foxoffderby Posted 30 January 2014 Posted 30 January 2014 Jeez you can't even laugh at the village idiot these days without people being offended. The real village idiots are the ones trying to film him and trying to mock him at the same time for cheap laughs. Err tell us about Dickov, err carry on, err errr err err jog on

Guest MattP Posted 30 January 2014 Posted 30 January 2014 Do people really still use the term 'lunatic'? What do you define as a 'lunatic' Matt? And do you actually know if Bernie has mental health problems? No idea, I use the term lunatic though. I don't know for certain, but generally people who walk around shouting random nonsense to everyone at the top of their voice 24/7 are considered lunatics, no idea if that's still the same by todays standards. Probably not considering some of the states you see walking around town centres, being normal will see you as a minority in society soon.
Sharpe's Fox Posted 30 January 2014 Posted 30 January 2014 I have my theories, as I'm sure you all have yours. I for one believe Bernie is really a Frankenstein style monster created by Ian Ormondroyd 20 years ago. Have you ever noticed that he seems out of proportion for your average fellow? That's because he is made from many different people including but not limited to Benny Hill, Princess Margaret and various parts of Stingray puppets. He returns every match day to Filbert Street to find his creator and still remembers the day he was "born", the day before the 1994 play off final. That's why he will always hate Derby.

Lets hope that mental illness never runs in your family then mate? The term 'lunatic' was actually done away with, in legal terms, by the 'Mental Treatment Act' of 1930. The danger of using such a term, of course, is that it doesn't help to explain or classify mental health problems, instead it generalises and stigmatises them. I feel for Bernie to be honest, but have no idea if he actually has a diagnosis of mental illness, and if he does, what his actual condition is.
chapero82 Posted 30 January 2014 Posted 30 January 2014 Yer re gazza he's a drunk ain't he? I mean wtf I feel sorry for the guy I would just have a chat and listen to his stories, Bernie has some serious issues and you would think as fellow LCFC fans they would try to help him abd give him the time of day instead of taking the piss out of the guy all the time, how would they feel if me and the boys kept shoving our phone in there faces every 5 seconds
BMR Posted 30 January 2014 Posted 30 January 2014 I'd love to see him sober, probably start chanting "That would be an ecumenical matter!" haha, i loved that episode!
Guest MattP Posted 30 January 2014 Posted 30 January 2014 Col, I wasn't referring to the word in the pre 1930 context of it. It's a figure of speech to describe someone a bit wacky, you'll probably hear it in any pub or workplace now. And I have had family members who have those issues, cutting taht word out of my life would make absolutely no difference to how I feel about it.

I'm not trying to take a 'holier than thou' stance buddy. I just think some terms, like 'lunatic' can be pretty destructive, particularly at a time when mental health is being promoted like it is. Mental illness comes in many different forms and many sufferers are actually very socially withdrawn and keep themselves to themselves. They aren't 'lunatics' in the way you seem to be suggesting?Well I heard he said he couldn't believe Col city fan wanted QPR to win on Saturday, what does that make him mate? BTS... shush bud...
Unabomber Posted 30 January 2014 Posted 30 January 2014 I am amazed that he turns up at every game, especially away games with trains that change etc.
Storming Posted 30 January 2014 Posted 30 January 2014 Bernie is not as bad as most People make out if anyone took the time to talk to him even if he has had a drink e can still hold his own in a footballing conversation . From what I know in his younger days he used to cycle to away matches even places like Norwich he was once reported to have walked to Wembley following the M1 . Ok he likes a drink but that dosnt make him any worse than others who do . imo LCFC away days will be sorry place when Bernie calls it a day imo he is a legend n his own way and hope he is around for many years to come Arggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg
gerrytaggart Posted 30 January 2014 Posted 30 January 2014 He is just enjoying himself. I doubt he wants anyones pity!

FuriousFox46 Posted 30 January 2014 Posted 30 January 2014 I stood on his foot once at Carrow Road. There's my claim to fame
silebyboy Posted 30 January 2014 Posted 30 January 2014 I've worked with Bernie's cousin for the past 15 years now. I remember around the time I started working with him he used to go on about his mad cousin who walks to all of the matches but it wasn't for a couple of years that I realised who he meant until I started reading this forum in 2007 and I put 2 and 2 together. I asked after him recently and he said he completely lost it years ago (I'm sure that'll come as no surprise to anyone). He says Bernie no longer recognises him when they meet. I know the guy is as mad as a box of frogs but I really don't find it slightly funny that his antics are filmed and put on YouTube as a supposed source of entertainment.
