98foxes Posted 6 February 2014 Posted 6 February 2014 Div 1 stats don't count...... sorry thats rubbish! If we go up (and stay up for a while) will championship stats not count then either?
Corky Posted 6 February 2014 Posted 6 February 2014 The games that we won in the prem under O Neill against the likes of Bradford Barnsley and of course Cov also need to be discounted.... No, we should take out the cup wins against lower league sides like York, Scarborough, Grimsby, Northampton, Hereford, Southend as no other manager played cup games against them.
Strokes Posted 6 February 2014 Posted 6 February 2014 He is our best manager never to of managed in the top flight.
shen Posted 6 February 2014 Posted 6 February 2014 Couldn't agree more, only wins against bigger and better opposition should count, easy games don't cuz anyone could win them. We're currently leading the league by 10 points. You could make a case that most of our games this season have been 'easy'. Should the same apply then?
Carl the Llama Posted 6 February 2014 Posted 6 February 2014 No, we should take out the cup wins against lower league sides like York, Scarborough, Grimsby, Northampton, Hereford, Southend as no other manager played cup games against them. To be fair we should discount all wins against opposition outside of the top flight. Like our game against Tranmere.
foxfanazer Posted 6 February 2014 Posted 6 February 2014 Mamy big clubs have struggled to get promoted from league 1 after being relegated. Leeds, forest and derby couldn't do it at the first attempt
Vlad The Impaler Posted 6 February 2014 Posted 6 February 2014 Just read this article it believes Nigel Pearson has the highest win percentage of any of the clubs managers, is there any stat guru's who can shed light on this? is there a table with other managers win percentages out there? amazing feat right? Also quite a good analysis on how we are winning these games that last season we wouldn't. http://www.whoscored.com/Articles/3nLOLtsEGEOSHyWNYEKqHg Good read that!
Fox92 Posted 6 February 2014 Posted 6 February 2014 Why should people discount league one? You can only beat what's in front of you.
Finn Claw II Posted 6 February 2014 Posted 6 February 2014 MON Premier League finishes were 9th in 97 (W% 32%) 10th in 98 (W% 34%), 10th in 99 (W% 32%) and 8th in 2000 (W% 42%). While the win percentage is considerably lower I still rank that as a phenomenal achievement. If we get promoted and Nigel Pearson keeps up a 50% win percentage we would end up challenging for 4th spot - If NP get us into the Champions League that he would be our greatest manager of all time. I will not think any less of him if he reverts to MON's win percentage in the Premier League. While not discounting his League 1 season, I'm not expecting him to maintain his record if we go up.

Absolutely. There's basically zero chance chance a newly promoted club can maintain a 50% win record in the PL, only a fool (and we have many) would write him off for failing to do so.
Sampson Posted 6 February 2014 Posted 6 February 2014 League One was easy because Pearson made it look easy. How many other similar sized teams who went down struggled and took several years to come back up over the past decade or so? His signings - Dyer, Hobbs, Morrison, Berner, Tunchev, Davies, Cleverley, Gilbert, Brown, as well as his rejuvenation of players like Fryatt and Howard and his willingness to bring the likes of King, Gradel and Mattock through the youth team are the reason we ran away with the league and why it looked so easy, not because the opposition were worse. A different manager and we could easily have ended up like Sheffield United.
Guybino Posted 6 February 2014 Posted 6 February 2014 he has the 2 best spells and by quite a margin. I was just speaking to my dad about this, at the start of the season it looked at tough one, with QPR and Wigan coming down, but saying that, this is the best we have looked for aslong as I can remember (24) and we are getting the results to match. I think we are a good example of sticking with a manager and letting him call the shots, un-interrupted. and let me add, I think we are lucky to have decent owners.
Harry - LCFC Posted 6 February 2014 Posted 6 February 2014 But the team relegated wasn't good enough for the league above. Pearson had to build a team good enough to get out of league 1. If those players that came were so much better then they would have been snapped up by teams playing at a higher level. So of course his league one record counts, or shall we discount his prem record when we get there because the players aren't good enough to win the league. I did not say that League One records don't count, only that they are less impressive. The fact is that League One is easier for a club like Leicester so we are always likely to win more games in that division. Winning 60% of your games in the Championship is a greater feat than doing the same in the league below purely because the higher division is more difficult than the other. Please don't think that I'm disregarding Pearson's achievements in his first season, he did very well indeed, but I'm going to be even more impressed if he wins the division we're in now.
Monk Posted 6 February 2014 Posted 6 February 2014 Shouldn't we be discounting Nugent's penalties from these stats?
