Nigel Pearson clubs highest win percentage?

I don't dispute the figures but the season in the "third tier" should be discounted to make it fair

I think that in his second spell at the club he has the second highest win percentage in the clubs history (behind his first run that included the League One season).

Fair play to the bloke, i hope we give him at least a crack of the whip in the premiership.

I honestly don't understand the 'oh but you've got to discount League One.' Would we be discounting it if we'd finished 9th and then gone up the season after? Just because we blitzed the league in a division we'd never been in before doesn't mean his stats don't count. Every win, draw and loss was played over exactly the same rules and regulations as every other manager in our history.

We going to start discounting every players stats in League One on the same basis? Should anyone who keeps a record of the number of games they have attended discount League One as well? Utter nonsense.

Why? He didn't take us there.

So, Leicester City FC would always win games in League One automatically, without even having to play?

On what possible basis? Were all of the other teams in Division Three ordered to make it easy for us to win?

The team that Pearson took over in June 2008 was utterly demoralised, AND it had lost key players like Gareth McAuley, Iain Hume and Richard Stearman. In similar circumstances, clubs like Wolves, Forest, Leeds and Villa all went down and stayed down.

You may think that Pearson deserves little credit for his record during our only season in Division Three, but you are, I think, in a very small minority.

Let's see what we look like after 4 or 5 seasons in the top flight!  If we can get to the Premiership and we stay then his spell ranks alongside MON.   I'd take a win percentage of 35% in the Prem as opposed to 50% in the championship.

If you had all the betting odds for that last 20 - 30 years worth of games you could calculate an expected vs. actual points haul....

I think the point is that we were a big club in the third tier and were expected to win games hence a big win percentage, in the top tier we are a small club and hence the win percentage should be lower.  Obviously NP did a great job in getting us out the league I don't think that is disputed.

i hope he gets much more, if we were to go straight back down again (if we get promoted) theres no-one else i would want to guide us up

I agree - and hopefully our owners will be patient enough to see it that way. Whether they will or not is another matter.

Il assume an intelligent person like you harry is being sarcastic

Kind of, I can see his point though. There's no doubt that games in League One are easier to win than games in the Championship so I'd say it is a little unfair when judging him against other managers. I don't agree that they should be entirely discounted though, he still did very well and you can't ignore that.

Maybe we should take the coca cola cup from o Neil then as it was the Micky mouse cup,

You can only beat whats in front of you,

Regardless of opposition,

To say pearsons win record should only be based on the championship is ridiculous,if we had came mid table that season you would be judging him on his failure,so why shouldn't he be judged in the same way on his success.

The games that we won in the prem under O Neill against the likes of Bradford Barnsley and of course Cov also need to be discounted....

Couldn't agree more, only wins against bigger and better opposition should count, easy games don't cuz anyone could win them.

But the team relegated wasn't good enough for the league above. Pearson had to build a team good enough to get out of league 1. If those players that came were so much better then they would have been snapped up by teams playing at a higher level. So of course his league one record counts, or shall we discount his prem record when we get there because the players aren't good enough to win the league.

These are stats, they don't prove anything just represent data, having the best win percentage is just that, it doesn't make him the best manager in our history as he hasn't been successful with us in the top flight, yet.

It would be interesting to see those stats split out by division, but you wouldn't do that with club goal scorers, you wouldn't say that King's goals in League One don't count, a goal is a goal and a win is a win.
