Dr The Singh Posted 19 February 2014 Posted 19 February 2014 The vast majority? I'm pretty sure the entire indian subcontinent uses the word paki with no racist connotations at all. Majority of the indian subcontinent will not know what that word means..............paki translate to 'pure' in arabic, it's never used within there daily language, infact it's not even a word from any languages from that region, don't assume you know anything about the the word, the word and term and it's power is British made!!
fleckneymike Posted 19 February 2014 Posted 19 February 2014 Rather than Mull of Kintyre, perhaps they should play this at half time
Socks Posted 19 February 2014 Posted 19 February 2014 I've lived in Nottingham since i was 20, and in most areas too, and its just as multi-racial as Leicester And there's loads of taxi's too Oh and they have foreign owners too Hypocritical racist wankers
1964FOX Posted 19 February 2014 Posted 19 February 2014 Just out of curiosity what is the punishment? Like, say a steward pulls an individual aside for hearing racist chanting from an entire block Then what? Is he referred to the police where he will deny it and they have no proof so nothing will happen? I do not agree with racism in any way shape or form, but if its applied en mass then how racis can you prove an individual is guilty without having each member of the crowd filmed for the whole 90 minutes? Because he/she will just deny they were involved & were sitting there innocently. Genuinely interested in the process of convicting them if anyone can shed any light on it. You are right in assuming that a large crowd would be very difficult to prosecute. What will happen is that the crowd will be watched and anyone who starts any racist chants will either be arrested at some point in the match or identified for arrest later. The offences available are incitement, public order and racially aggravated hate crime to name some. Penalties are larger for any proven hate crime so a custodial sentence and football banning order are very possible. I expect they are fed up with criticism they have done nothing about it so will be going for prosecutions. As for the 'p' word it is clearly a well tested racist term in English law so it's use in any context could lead to prosecution under hate crime legislation. It really does dismay me when people use it as a joke or ironically as there are people of my generation for whom it invokes awful memories. If Jim Davison still used it in a joke would it be ok? I don't think so. I'm sure I will be damned for being over sensitive and having no sense of humour but I've had worse.
bluesbrothers Posted 19 February 2014 Posted 19 February 2014 Why did I read that and think "Uh oh, someone is in sh1t now" but then I read the posters name and think "Oh Ok, maybe that's OK then" It's a bit like black guys using the N word when the white guys get lamented for it. Does it really make it OK? Not really, no, especially if Raj isn't Pakistani.

Fair enough. As far as I'm aware not many people speak arabic on the indian subcontinent so I don't know why that definition is relevant. And I know for sure when I was in india and pakistan a few years back the word paki was being used regularly without any offense intended or taken.

I put money on it, if you went to India and said paki, they would go WTF is that! They have terms for pakistanis in there own language, and vice versa. Infact a pakistani friend of mine, when his cousin came down, he was calling his cousin paki, and his cousin didn't know WTF. Yes, arabic words are used in day to day life, but in pakistan and india the word for pure is not paki, it is not used in any day to day life.

Harry - LCFC Posted 20 February 2014 Posted 20 February 2014 The vast majority? I'm pretty sure the entire indian subcontinent uses the word paki with no racist connotations at all. I wasn't aware of that. Nonetheless you can be fairly sure of what someone meant if they when it's used in our society, even if it has been wrongly hijacked. Maybe you should try and go around calling people from the indian subcontinent that word and find out how acceptable it is.............................moron!! You happen to know what a word means because you're from a certain background and you think you can insult me for it. Grow up.

Wait a minute, just because I know what the word means naff all, cus infact it's generally known in British society as a racial insult, one which by law you can be prosecuted for racist abuse, why the hell would anyone call it acceptable.....think about it!!!!
C-man Posted 20 February 2014 Posted 20 February 2014 You have to laugh at people who think that loads of Gujrats/Punjabs etc go around calling Muslims (or even each other, some of us don't fancy differentiating) 'p4kis' in English.

I don't mean to be insulting but I really can't understand what you're trying to say. Maybe I'm being slow but I'd appreciate it if you explained yourself a little better. All I've said is that the word is seen as racist in British society. You appear to agree with me here.
