Pearson's record

Recommended Posts

I know its an obvious thing to say but I don't we think we should underestimate his impact at our club over recent years and not just this year.

He's managed us for 3 full seasons prior to this one and half a season when he took over from Sven, of those 3 seasons, we won league 1, got to the playoffs the following year and also made the playoffs last year as well despite the collapse. Then this year, we look odds on for promotion, wouldn't be a half bad record in 4 full seasons, 2 x promotions and 2 x playoff campaigns.....

To think people moaned when he took over from Sven and we finished outside the playoffs yet a good chunk of fans wanted him gone.

People can hopefully see now why you need to sometimes stick with a manager through thick and thin and not just make hasty decisions when things don't go as well. He has balanced the books so well and that takes a lot of time yet not everyone could see that, I particularly remember such topics on here like:

Pearson cant get the best out of Beckford

Pearson cant handle big personalities

Vardy needs to go, not good enough

Drinkwater needs to go, not good enough

We have no bite in the midfield and Pearson not done anything about it

SSL is one of the best defenders at the clubs

AND mine personal favourite.... We NEED a manager that has promotion on his CV, Pearson doesn't know how to do it (Granted, we've not done it yet but we're looking ok!) We had shouts like Warnock, McCarthy, Adkins, McDermott etc

Just predictable fans who dont have a clue about football. I always stuck by Pearson and knew this would happen eventually. Vardy the same I was confident he'd become good. Drinky was the one I admit I didnt think he was good enough but well done Danny.

Essentially I've always been a big fan of his and stuck up for him even when we 'collapsed' last year yet so many fans wanted him gone.

So its just to back up that really and also point out how good his overall record is for us, its very impressive which people forget. Every full season he's managed us, we've challenged for promotion

Fvck me, he's just trying to point out what a good job Pearson has done using a few stats and pointing out how he's improved as a manager too, and we have improved as fans imo

To be fair to the op this thread just underlines even further the extent to which our reactionary bellend contingent had backed the wrong horse.

all good but he's still crap at interviews...

You don't think he'll make a good raconteur and after dinner speaker when he retires then ?

I always thought he was doing a good job too , does anyone remember me saying so ? :)
I Did Honest !!

Yay for us, shall we touch ends now?

I'm one who has been proven totally wrong, I was one who wanted Pearson out at the beginning of the season, but I like the fact I have been proven wrong and how wrong am I , it just shows don't be so quick to judge, and I'm actually starting to think we have one of the best English managers there is

He's actually made home games enjoyable after the 5 years previous of just average to shite.

We are winning games 3-0 at nowhere near our best. Thanks Nige for making our home ground a place to dread coming rather than a real opportunity to beat us.

In my 11 years as a STH, I've seen a lot of rubbish. Between late 2003 and May 2008, we were awful... Nige restored us, made us a force in this league again, and now have become a team where people fear us. I respect him for that, always liked him as manager ever since that first game (MK Dons), and hope he can continue this for years.

This may come back on you all if we fook it up from here.

Which is why we won't.

We're on 71 points at the end of February, and 20 points ahead of 6th/7th, it will need the biggest slump in history to finish outside of the play offs. In which, If we do finish below 6th, I'll sing Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now, on my roof, naked.

We're playing with confidence and have full ability. We're somewhat sweeping teams away without always playing brilliant, like yesterday. Our determination and togetherness has been tested at times, Nottingham Forest away for example, but we have defined that and at times, answered critics.

like it matters? He's not a bloody comedian or talk show host he's a football manager and a good one at that.

Exactly what I was thinking.

Just for your info, he couldn't handle Beckford, and did we stick with Sven through thick and thin. He never got the chance of a full season, after saving us from relegation in his first half season.

That however is water under the bridge now, and this season the guv. geezer is doing us proud.

I like his interviews. Always honest and sums the game up well. Better than trying to be funny or talking about complete nonsense, which other managers seem to do. I find Pearson's interviews interesting, he's more interesting than Mourinho who everyone seems to love.

That said I don't care how he handles the media. It's not an attribute that defines a great manager. Was Fergie always great with the media? No. Was Brian Clough? No... Still among the greatest managers ever, though.
