Obviously we have a stronger squad than last season and a really exciting bench to look at at the beginning of each match. I've just had a second look at our fixtures for this month and have started thinking of where we need to be picking up points. Charlton - Home Barnsley - Away Blackpool - Home Blackburn - Away Yeovil - Home Burnley - Away It's not easy feat playing the whole relegation zone at this time of the year when they are really scrapping, but it would be nice to think that we would pick up those 9 points with our current squad (especially with Schlupp looking comfortable (hopefully) for the remainder of Konch's ban). That leaves Blackpool and Blackburn, from whom it would be an expectation to pick up about 4 points. Could we get ourselves into a position where the trip to Turf Moor is a not an essential win? I'd like to hear other peoples' thoughts
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 24 February 2014 Posted 24 February 2014 If we ignore last season's bad spell and just look at what we're capable of now, I don't think it's unrealistic to hope for 14-16 points there (possibly drawing a couple, maybe losing to Burnley). Of course, anything's possible but there's a few there we should win with ease. COYB!

I think that is a pretty reasonable assessment. It would be great to stay unbeaten until Blackburn at least as that would mean we have beaten the trees record of 14 unbeaten. Burnley v Derby on Saturday could be the match that really helps us build a decent lead. If Burnley win, third is miles away and if derby win there is suddenly a big scrap going on just beneath us. We could keep our hands clean and walk away with it. it would be nice to see other sides thinking of second as the best they could possibly do. On sky sports the commentators referred to QPR as 'playoff hopefuls' which made me think that their confidence is heavily shaken.

If Burnley draw to both us and Derby that is the most they can get as well, keeping our 8 point lead in tact. It would be nice to remain unbeaten all month and extend our current run to 19. It would also be nice to smash at least one team by 5 or 6 before the end of the season. It's not necessary but would just be nice, like we did to Ipswich or Hudders last season. If we are going to do that then this month is probably our best chance. No games is easy but if things all fall right, we are certainly capable.

Footballwipe Posted 24 February 2014 Posted 24 February 2014 /Famous last words/ In theory (theory being the big words of course) we couldn't have asked for a better set of fixtures in the run up to Burnley. From Blackburn, not setting the world alight, to rock-bottom Yeovil, we have an ideal run of games that a team in our position should be winning if we want to get up. Come out with at least 12 points from the five games preceding Burnley and we'll be absolutely laughing our way to the Premier League come May. I was being my pessimistic self when I saw that we still have the likes of Burnley, QPR (whatever form they're in), Reading, Brighton, and resurgent Wigan to go this season. However they are all after the first five fixtures we have in March. Win the lot and we won't need to worry about the strength of the opposition in the run-in, we'll have already done the hard work.

artursteppe Posted 24 February 2014 Posted 24 February 2014 Highly unlikely 107 points is achievable. On results ( ie average points per game ) we would end up with 102 points. A small improvement as the season progresses makes 107 points something to aim for, and entirely possible. 18 points in March would be good! ( 32 points from last possible 36 I think ).

But first thing is first lets get automatic promotion wrapped up. I do agree with you 'Happy', but 107 (+) would be great. It's a bit like winning 1-0 or 6-0, 6-0 is more fun!
