foxfanazer Posted 24 February 2014 Posted 24 February 2014 Do any of the current crop of players remind you of any of the players in the MoN era? James reminds me a little of Lennon
Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 24 February 2014 Posted 24 February 2014 Vardy and Dickov. My memory is shit but did dickov play for us under MON?
cityfanlee23 Posted 24 February 2014 Posted 24 February 2014 Waghorn and Collymore I don't think waghorn is an arsehole?
kingcarr21 Posted 24 February 2014 Posted 24 February 2014 beckford and akinbiyi (not current crop but can c similarities) And i believe akinbiyi wasnt a MON player so not really relevant. i prob should of put more thought into this haha
WhispyWizard Posted 24 February 2014 Posted 24 February 2014 Wasyl and Walsh Walsh was better at scoring from headers Drinkwater reminds me more of Lennon, controlling player letting Matty Izzett play more open.
bovril Posted 24 February 2014 Posted 24 February 2014 Morgan/Elliott Nowhere near. Elliott was one of the all time greats.
cityfanlee23 Posted 24 February 2014 Posted 24 February 2014 Walsh was better at scoring from headers Good point, The whole "Die for the 3 points" mentality is good to see though! Body on the line!
bovril Posted 24 February 2014 Posted 24 February 2014 Maybe the closest for me is Kasper / Keller - both usually good keepers, sometimes pull of wonder saves, prone to the odd rush of blood to the head.
LanguedocFox Posted 24 February 2014 Posted 24 February 2014 Morgan/Walshy: solid, immoveable, good in the air; Was/Elliott: good at covering, excellent link player with the other CB; Kasper/Keller: brilliance most of the time, madness occasionally; Vardy/Claridge: brilliant eye for goal, never gave up chasing; Drinkwater/Izzet: excellent distribution, good at tackling back. No exact comparisons, but along those lines. Personally, I think this squad has the potential to be the best City squad I've ever seen - no real weak links
hackneyfox Posted 24 February 2014 Posted 24 February 2014 Not one of oir current players can really be compared to the stars of the MON era, they may improve over time and reach those dizzy heights but I somehow doubt it as many will hopefully be replaced next season.

Are you actually going to games this year? How many would you seriously replace? Fair enough we'll need some extra quality but I have no idea how anyone could take that attitude after witnessing the effort and quality of the players. You seem gutted this side is doing well.
Sampson Posted 24 February 2014 Posted 24 February 2014 David Nugent/Ian Marshall - Great link-up play despite not scoring tons of goals from open play, always work hard, if I were being ironically ironic I'd also add cheeky northerner with banter etc.

WTF? Some people are just clueless!
hackneyfox Posted 24 February 2014 Posted 24 February 2014 Are you actually going to games this year? How many would you seriously replace? WTF? Some people are just clueless! I'm a season ticket holder. We're playing second division football, MON's team were in the top 10 of the PL, so there's a long way to go before we can start comparing players imo. In the PL we'll need A goalie (for the bench but I do believe we could improve on Kasper) A left back At least one centre half, probably 2 as neither Morgan or Was will be good enough imo. A midfielder A wide player Probably 2 strikers. I'd keep Schmeichel, De Laet, Moore, Miquel (if we could sign him), James, Drinkwater, Knocky, Mahrez & Vardy but I don't know how regularly they'd play. It all depends on what the owners want to achieve, if they just want to survive the first season then the above may well surfice, if they mean to go for it then we'll need to spend/loan more. Konchesky may have the experience but is now too old to play regularly. Morgan is too slow Was is good in the air but would struggle otherwise Dyer just isn't good enough and his pace won't scare that many teams (look what has happened in the last few games) Nugent won't reach double figures unless we get a load of penalties again. Can't see Wood making the step up Vardy has pace and will run all day for us but you need more than that in the PL.

Of course they don't compare NOW, they went on to have great careers, most of this lot are just starting out. You wouldn't have said the O'Neill team would go on to do what they did, as a team or individually the year they got us promoted. Hindsight is a wonderful thing! In the PL we'll need A goalie (for the bench but I do believe we could improve on Kasper) A left back At least one centre half, probably 2 as neither Morgan or Was will be good enough imo. A midfielder A wide player Probably 2 strikers. I would probably have said exactly the same.
