Support Foxes without an association with Leicester?

Me too - born and brought up in dirty Leeds - Loved Leicester since I was 7 (nearly half a century ago) and despise Leeds. Don't really know why I chose Leicester, but have stuck with them ever since. I remarried 11 years ago to a woman from Leicester and moved down here. I still think she thinks she was the reason I moved! ;)

Absolute gem lol lol lol

That's kind of what supporting a team is IMO. There's a link between you and the club (almost always formed by attending matches and experiencing what the club's about) so you continue to go and want them to win.

That's why glory supporters are so disliked. They 'support' a team who they've no link to, just a club who happens to have a decent side that makes it onto the TV a lot.

They don't even bother me nowadays. It's their loss. Not a single one of them got the same enjoyment from anything in football as I got from Knockaert's goal at Forest.

What bothers me is clubs and TV companies who work around them simply because they do actually put the money in. Horrible reflection on the game.

This thread is totally different though. In-fact, it's a very good read and it's refreshing reading some bizarre reasons for supporting a club over the 'Rooney iz totes amazeballs!!!' kind of reason you're never too far from.

Someone mentioned it above, but I also remember those panini football stickers, especially the badges and I thought out of the twenty you could get, Leicester City's looked the best (I still think we have one of the best crests in the country!) Around the same time my dad (luckily for me) moved to desford. I used this as my way to become a Leicester fan.

Haha nightmare, I will do the honourable thing and change it. Will be hard to find a better one though, my mate sent me it a while back and it had me in stitches!

Don't worry too much about it! Check out his instagram, bet there's something on there!

I haven't got one which is why I posted in here... Have I got the wrong interpretation of this thread or something?

Eeeeeeeeeeerm.....

I was wondering, is there anybody on here who supports Leicester without having any association with Leicester? I.e. lives in Leicestershire, parents from (or supported) Leicester etc.

It's just that I've never met anyone who supports Leicester who somehow doesn't have any association with the town/county.

Teams such as Liverpool/Man U have people worldwide who support them. Just wondered if there were any Leicester fans... And if so, why?  :P

This isn't quite the same, in my opinion.

If the fans in this thread are 'glory supporters' then they're absolutely god awful at it. It's not like anyone chose us because we were one of the world's best sides because we never have been

Yeah it should be pointed out that there is a difference and yes, I do prefer the people on this thread by some distance to the glory supporters but I still struggle with the idea of supporting a club you have no real link to.

I've got to agree, I can't imagine being as passionate as I am for a club or city that I have no association with what so ever?

There is a link to the club though, like you said this can be "formed by attending matches and experiencing what the club's about." Which is how I became a fan, surely this would still be the same regardless of having a link with the city of leicester or a dad thats a fan?

Do you not think the link with leicester as a place etc only gets you down to your first game. From then on, we would build the same relationship with the club from experiences at games etc. So I think it makes little difference beyond being the reason of why you first went along to a game.

I'm surprised by how many of you have no affiliation to the club! We seem a strange team to support if you didn't have to lol

I've always lived in Leicester and my family are all city fans. Most of my mates are United fans and I really feel great about supporting my local team instead of choosing a club based on success

Why though? Some of the stories in here are so unusual and some are brilliant. Just because some people's link to supporting Leicester is a lot more tedious than yours doesn't mean they can't be as passionate in their support as you are just because you were born in Leicester.

If anything it's amazing that people continue to follow us based only upon these links. If anything it shows more passion and support to follow a team based on a shiny sticker than it does to just follow your local team.

I can see what you mean but you have to be happy that our club has wider appeal outside Leicestershire, and if they have been supporting the club long enough, share a bond and passion through the good and bad times of the club history. I don't think you both have to be born in Leicester Royal Infirmary to share the same passion for the club.

Yeah, I'm from an area in North Nottinghamshire that borders South Yorkshire. My Dad supports Leicester so it just gets passed down. Got taken to Filbert Street a few times, can't really remember it if I'm honest, but been a STH since Walkers Stadium opened.

Not really getting how this works are you.

I disagree,I've certainly got more passion for Leicester than some of my Liverpool,Man Utd mates. When half of them have been to their club only a few times and I've been away to the likes of Bristol Rovers,Lutons, old den when we were shite.infact I take that as an insult!

Yes, I agree about living nearby getting you down to the first game. That of course is why people encourage you to support your local team, because it allows you to watch a club and build up a relationship with it.

I don't particularly have a problem with people who don't live near to a club's ground but still go to watch them when possible.

I don't agree. People don't feel an association with a club because of a sticker, or if they do it can only be a very small one. Something like that may have sparked their interest in Leicester City but it isn't what made them love the club.

In the same way being born in Leicester is only a small affiliation at first, and it doesn't make you love the club. Being born here, and getting a shiny sticker are both means which can then lead to a lifelong affiliation and love for a football club.

Who are you to say that that person doesn't feel the same kind of affiliation to LCFC as you do, just because you happened to be born here?

Leicester Lass is right.

For instance, not everyone from Leicester or affiliated with Leicester supports the football club. So how being born within it's vicinity automatically makes you a more passionate fan is beyond me

I mean, technically a fan in Thailand who buys loads of LCFC merchandise etc but never goes to a game is more of a fan than a lad from Oadby who also doesn't go to any games and doesn't pump any money into the club. Would that Thai fan be more of a supporter because he's contributing to the clubs growth?

Is the sign of a better fan the one who gives more back to the club? :dunno:

I think being born in Leicester is a massive affiliation. The city I grew up is my city. The city has a club attached to it, therefore it is my club. The two are the same thing and I never felt I had any choice in the matter.

EDIT: Really must point out it's not me being born here that's key. It's growing up here.

The trouble I have will all this is that it ultimately leads to justifying glory supporting if you expand the logic being used. "Who are you to say that a person doesn't feel the same kind of affiliation with a club they watched on TV?" is a way your question could be rephrased.

I'll say it again, provided someone goes to matches when they can I really don't have a problem. It is possible to 'adopt' a club if that makes sense.

Now you are talking bollocks.Ive only ever supported Leicester ,and because of where I live there are not too many of us about so I tend to go to most away matches alone.Do you not think that if I had that small association and was not as passionate as being from Leicester I would bother going.i know how passionate I am and you would struggle to be more.Take Watford last year,my phone did not stop texting from mates seeing how I was, because they know how I feel about Leicester.

Honestly no intention to insult you and I apologise for that.

I can understand to an extent why you have fallen in love with Leicester, probably a large part of why I am so passionate about supporting Leicester is because in this day and age it isn't the norm not supporting a 'big 4' team.

My post was was more due to a lack of understanding about you unglory supporters!

But of course I like the fact that we have such a large fan base from all over the world!

it was slightly tongue in cheek as it's hardly glory hunting as you said.

So I assume you feel the same way about Leicester Tigers then?
