Support Foxes without an association with Leicester?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering, is there anybody on here who supports Leicester without having any association with Leicester? I.e. lives in Leicestershire, parents from (or supported) Leicester etc.

It's just that I've never met anyone who supports Leicester who somehow doesn't have any association with the town/county.

Teams such as Liverpool/Man U have people worldwide who support them. Just wondered if there were any Leicester fans... And if so, why? :P

Hi

I do!!

Born and brought up in Kent. When we were kids our parents told us to pick a football team to support instead of just cheering on the most successful teams each week. So, Peter Shilton being my hero at the time, I started following Leicester. Can't say I've been to a lot of games over the years but I brought my boys up for the Bolton match just after Christmas. We all enjoyed it, even my eldest who favours the rugby. Finances permitting we hope to do it a bit more often in the future

Me,I was always a bit brighter than the other children.Mine is weird and have mentioned it a few times. The first glittery/ shiny badge I got in the Panini sticker book was Leicesters and although I used to get free tickets to Norwich when I was at my aunts I hate them and stuck by the foxes.LTID.

I know my way to the ground from all directions but never been drinking in Leicester or know about half the places some go on about, although I've got 2 days for the Kasabian gig.

I have no connection to Leicestershire Im Cornish and lived in Cornwall nearly all my life my brother supports Leicester too and I doubt he even knows where Leicester is.

Me too - born and brought up in dirty Leeds - Loved Leicester since I was 7 (nearly half a century ago) and despise Leeds. Don't really know why I chose Leicester, but have stuck with them ever since. I remarried 11 years ago to a woman from Leicester and moved down here. I still think she thinks she was the reason I moved! ;)

Yeah, I'm from an area in North Nottinghamshire that borders South Yorkshire. My Dad supports Leicester so it just gets passed down. Got taken to Filbert Street a few times, can't really remember it if I'm honest, but been a STH since Walkers Stadium opened.

Can't see any association with Leicester that you've got, especially not one that the OP mentioned

I haven't got one which is why I posted in here... Have I got the wrong interpretation of this thread or something?

My old man was born & bred in Macclesfield, Cheshire. He supported City from the early 60's onwards, used to watch them when they played at City, United, went to cup finals in the 60's etc, without any concrete reason other than they were an entertaining side at the time.

He moved to the East Mids in the early 70's, went to games regularly and then i was born in 74 and he took me to my first game in 1980.

I think it was against Burnley and if memory serves me right it was 0-0.

I've never lived in Leicester either although i worked there for years, but i'm only 45 mins away, so feel close enough to be a part of things.

In different circumstances I could have ended up supporting City, United or even Forest or Notts County.

Thank f**k i didn't...

A bit off topic but....I used to live in Finland and I can tell you that due to us playing in the top flight in the 1980s, there is solid support across the Nordic countries (Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark) for LCFC. English Division 1 (as it was called then) was always on the box on a Saturday afternoon - one game a week plus highlight package after the games.

The Liverpools and Man Us still have the most supporters up there (Arsenal are particularly strong for some reason) but the likes of us, Watford, Luton and QPR all have strong fan bases. I presume kids just picked the first team they saw and liked the look of when they were on the box. We had Lineker and Smith so there must have been a couple of games we played well in!

I was born in London with no affiliation with the City or County of Leicester whatsoever.  Saw my first game back in 1966 and have been suffering ever since!  I am currently working in Malaysia (where every body supports either Liverpool or Man United) and I was asked this very question only yesterday by my Boss - i.e. do you come from Leicester?

No Idea why I got hooked, other than at the time of my first game I was only 13 years old and obviously very impressionable.  Members of my family tried to persuade me to switch allegiance to West Ham and Charlton in my early years, but I resisted.

Don't regret this strange coming together with LCFC for one minute, despite considerable heartbreak over 40+ years.

That's kind of what supporting a team is IMO. There's a link between you and the club (almost always formed by attending matches and experiencing what the club's about) so you continue to go and want them to win.

That's why glory supporters are so disliked. They 'support' a team who they've no link to, just a club who happens to have a decent side that makes it onto the TV a lot.

Your association is that your old man supports Leicester, so you've followed in his footsteps.

Yep. Parents from Stoke on Trent and Brum. Dad Tried to push me into supporting Villa, bought me a kit and everything, but I didn't like it and I made the decision when about 6 or 7 to support another Midlands team. Chose Leicester because I liked the badge and the kit (mainly cos of the big Walkers logo!) And Forest were my second choice - close escape!!!

Quite a few of us are going to the gig in June so if you want a heads up of best places to drink or a few drinking buddies let me know. I honestly think it is just going to be a massive LCFC love in day.

Slightly more tenuous one, there is a older guy who drinks in the pub near me who is Scottish but moved down to London in the 70s. One fine Saturday he decided to go to a random football match in the country within reasonable travelling distance from West London. He ended up picking a Leicester home match. So he says he drove up and when he was parking at Filbert Street, his odometer ticked over to exactly 100 miles from leaving his house. He's been a loyal fan ever since.

I was born in Portsmouth, moved to Nottingham when I was four and then moved to London at 20. I have never lived in Leicester or have no family association. My support comes from being given an LCFC shirt by a random family friend when I was little. I often think that shirt could have been Liverpool, Man Utd or even Brazil and I would have had a lot of success in my life.......but forget that, the passion of following City gives me so much more. The feeling of the day we dropped to league 1 and how much I was snapping at my mates in the pub and they couldn't understand why I was so annoyed or the absolute enjoyment of the whole League 1 season and just beating everyone.

I was born in 1980 and so I have cried when Paul Bodin scored that penalty, I have cried good tears when Walsh scored against Derby, I have cried when we went down the next season. I have called Mark Mcghee every name under the sun for lying about leaving us and even worse taking Steve Corica who I liked a lot. Then O'neill happened and all the painful moments seemed to dissapear. The League cup finals, finishing in the Prem top ten and I even have a newspaper clipping from around 2000 from the Nottingham Evening Post which shows the premier league after 8 games...LCFC top...Derby Bottom...Good Times.

I know Pearson is bringing us more of the good moments after the erratic decade we have had.

So for all people who have no actual affiliation with the city of Leicester, fans can come from wherever and their support can be as passionate and as true.

On a similar note, when I was 15 I worked as a burger boy at the City Ground. One night when Forest were playing Derby and Derby were winning a Derby fan tried to take the piss out of me as they were losing so I pointed out I didn't care as I didn't support Forest. He asked who I support and I said LCFC and he turned around and called me a glory supporter. I absolutely loved that, Derby consider us to be GLORIOUS!!!

I have been to over 200 games, yet wouldn't know my way around the city centre. I was the only one in the family who liked football and growing up in Lincoln it was impossible for me to get to see any good matches. My next door neighbours were from Leicester and had season tickets, so my dad bought me one just to stop me pestering him every day about seeing live matches haha. Admittedly the first few games I went to I was more excited about the opposition as it was back when we were in the prem. But I soon fell in love and carried on going ever since.

But yea it's a strange one, none of my family are from Leicester and I've never spent any time in the city if it's not to watch a game. So people tend to be a bit confused as to why I'm a fan!!

I know quite a few Liverpool fans that also support Leicester. I cant help but think it's because we were next to each other on the old football games whilst we were in the Premiership.
