Jordan Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 I started paying attention to Leicester in 1998, when television coverage of the Premier League began to expand. I looked out for Leicester's results because I was a Kasey Keller fan, and somehow along the way I just began to feel an affinity for the club. I can understand why some people here find it a bit strange that people with otherwise no connections to the city/county or the club support City, because I will be the first to admit it's unusual that I do. But that's just how it is, I guess.
LC/FC Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 Somewhere deep inside I know that LCFC is ingrained into our soul and when we die and come back to life again, none of this YOLO shit, that wherever we are born that part of our soul speaks to us. We're Leicester even when we die! I don't personally care what everyone elses beliefs are in regards to the afterlife but I for one shall find my way back to loving City even if I was born on an oil tanker in the middle of the Pacific.

This thread got a bit heavy...
LanguedocFox Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 This isn't quite the same, in my opinion. If the fans in this thread are 'glory supporters' then they're absolutely god awful at it. It's not like anyone chose us because we were one of the world's best sides because we never have been Exactly. Slightly off topic, but I took my daughter to her one and only City match when we were beaten by Palace in the fourth round of the Cup (Dyer hat trick) - I think the only time Palace won at home all season. We were living in Sarf Lahdan at the time and she said to me "Why do you support Leicester? They're crap, and you haven't lived there for 20 years. Why don't you support Chelsea? They're much closer and they win things." Some things are simply beyond rational explanation.

Brainy Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 Me. Completely randomly chose them about the late 90's when we were doing well in the League Cup and such. If might even have been as simple as liking Walkers Crisps and noticing that it was on their shirts
LC/FC Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 This season + the last decade + turning 30 + maturing into fatherhood = Much much philosophical babblings of love, caring, patience and honesty. Oh and day/night nurse.
Stadt Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 Does Shen still post on here? I've not seen him post in a while, does anybody know how he ended up supporting us?
LanguedocFox Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 I agree with many before me, what a reason to support a team, brilliant! Mine doesnt really cover the above but anyway... I supported Man U at 6 years old after deciding whoever won the 1990 FA Cup Final between Man U and Crystal Palace would be my team of choice! I always looked out for Leicester's results as my Dad supported them after seeing Leicester in the 1963 FA Cup Final. When I was about 13, I got disillusioned with Man United and liked the look of Leicester, especially the Northern Ireland contingent at the time (I'm from NI). I cant remember the exact moment I switched but my best mate was a Newcastle fan and I couldn't face the stick after Newcastle beat Man U 5-0 at St James', how fickle!! Didnt take me long to be an ABU either! Always prided myself on not being a glory hunter and supporting a team outside the usual suspects. To some of the points above, I have always thought about what defines a 'glory hunter'. I have friends who have supported Man City for over 15 years and wouldn't consider them glory hunters. As extremely unlikely as it is, if Leicester became a new Chelsea/Man City/top 4 regulars in the Premier League, I would feel that I'd have to point out I supported us through the shite times just to not come across as a glory hunter!! I wouldn't hold your breath...
skegness fox Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 Yes me skegness born and bread, been supporting them since late 70s, i remember the school football team played in blue and so did the under 14 team i played for, and i used to play in the city shirt from 82 and ive still got that shirt! I still dont know to this day why i chose leicester as most people in this area supported liverpool leeds man united or forest suppose i just wanted to be different, do i have any regrets? No not one!
Turnofthefox Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 I was born in Brum, mum and dad mad keen Baggies fans, moved to Herts when i was 2 so def no association with Leicester! But when i was about 5 my dad asked me if i wanted to watch WBA, which i said yes (wanted the pocket money) but who else was there to support. Based on where i was born he started telling me the other teams and colours (oddly enough he never mentioned Wolves?) and i fell in love with the blue and badge of LCFC. Give my dad his due four times a year he drove me up from Herts and we watched games at Filbo. For those old enough he even took me to Villa Park to watch the semi against Spurs, and the other semi involved his beloved West Brom! Good news my 6 year old daughter follows her dad and is already a mad keen fox!
fuchsntf Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 I know quite a few Liverpool fans that also support Leicester. I cant help but think it's because we were next to each other on the old football games whilst we were in the Premiership.Goes back alongway.Maybe the Shankly era.We were said to be their bogey side, but the fans always seemed to get on.We played them alot of times in cup matches, some Liverpool fans I later spoke to were taken back when many wished them well in the next round, without antagonism, or visa versa. Then there was the kop on both sides always clapping the goalkeeper. We tended to draw or win games when it mattered more to liverpool than us.Some of their hard midfield players no matter what era, often commentated that they always had reservations when playing Leicester. Bill shankly once said, if liverpool played leicester every 2nd week, Leicester would be champions.. Mat Gillies was recorded as saying on a liverpool radio station he thought liverpool the most complete team he had played against ,that spurs has had great individual players, but Liverpool could swamp you has a team. Alot of ex and small time cons were released on city streets after bring released from our well known prison, and a few not being turned away but found work in Leicester.
astoriafox Posted 27 February 2014 Posted 27 February 2014 36 years a Leicester fan. Born and bred in dirty Leeds like another previous post. Was taken to a place called The Astoria (hence forum name) with my older brother when I was 5 and was told that I could have a football shirt. The only one which fit me as a Leicester City shirt (the 70s admiral one of the era of Dennis Rofe, then Alan Young. The rest is history. Incidently, my brother is a Norwich fan as first game he went to as a kid was Leeds v Norwich, but he preferred Norwich's kit! Not been to many games, but am a Fox through and through, never got chance as a kid as my dad was a rugby ref and then when I was old enough to travel myself, I was actuallly playing myself. Since had an affiliation with Leicester as a city as I opened up Leicester Po Na Na many moons ago and we used to regularly get some of the players in. (That was the MON era). First post for many a moon, did get quite put off when I first joined by getting nothing but stick for wanting Pearson back after Sven was sacked, but am a regular reader much to my wifes annoyance! Loving this season! COYB
Sydney Fox Posted 27 February 2014 Posted 27 February 2014 I have absolutely no connection to Leicester at all. Have never even been to the UK, was born in Melbourne and now live in Sydney. The first time I ever played Fifa ('03 as a 12 year old), had no idea about football so just went through the PL teams and picked the one with the logo I liked the best. 10+ years later and I now stay up at 2am each week to follow the twitter account for game updates each week. Really hoping we go up as we get all PL games televised down here! Met up with a few lads for the playoff at home against Watford last year and they couldn't believe I'd put myself through the pain of being a Fox with absolutely no connection to the area or club. Looking forward to hopefully getting over soon for my first experience
foxfanazer Posted 27 February 2014 Posted 27 February 2014 Some cracking stories in here. Good to see so many different reasons for supporting this great club

cecchini Posted 27 February 2014 Posted 27 February 2014 Having lived in Leicester for most of my life, (lived in Essex for 10 years and spent the last 10 in Luxembourg) born in Paris of Italian extraction, the link to LCFC is obvious, but not a given. What we have in common are the many highs and lows, pleasure and pain that we have shared over the years, that's what connects us and makes supporting Leicester so special. I travel a lot for work and have come across our fans all over the place, I always travel with a city shirt and have had shouts of "blue army!" In places as diverse as Tokyo, Durban and Milan! One of the best was getting a shout from Sergio during a Kasabian concert in Luxembourg, while wearing my "walkers sun" city shirt and madly waving a scarf! My daughter was impressed! Blue Army!
Sydney Fox Posted 28 February 2014 Posted 28 February 2014 So much respect to you mate.Your worth 1000 glory Man United fans. But I compare your dedication to self harming. . Haha thanks. Everyone supports United or Liverpool down here so it's great to be a part of something different Feels like self harm but I would never trade it, nothing brings me as much joy as seeing us win! Thankfully I have a mate that follows Leeds so we constantly follow and watch the Championship. Sucks that he's Leeds but it beats all the other glory hunters down here
EdinburghFox Posted 1 March 2014 Posted 1 March 2014 They don't even bother me nowadays. It's their loss. Not a single one of them got the same enjoyment from anything in football as I got from Knockaert's goal at Forest. What bothers me is clubs and TV companies who work around them simply because they do actually put the money in. Horrible reflection on the game. This thread is totally different though. In-fact, it's a very good read and it's refreshing reading some bizarre reasons for supporting a club over the 'Rooney iz totes amazeballs!!!' kind of reason you're never too far from. mine's a bit bizarre...I listen to a radio station in Edinburgh and my favourite dj is 'boogie'. His dad supports hearts (who I like as my dad does too) and he also supports Leicester. I watched one match just to see who they were (i was really young) and I fell in love
bobbysmith Posted 1 March 2014 Posted 1 March 2014 My brother (who is on here somewhere) will tell anyone who will listen that he is from Leicester... HE IS NOT. He is from SWINDON! All the family live in Leicester and we used to go to filbo loads, so I guess that is a connection. My dad used to tell me I could not support Swindon because they sat on footballs and squashed them, which is what girls do?? I am not sure it made any sense but it worked.
Voll Blau Posted 16 March 2014 Posted 16 March 2014 Was chatting to a Sri Lankan bloke in the bar at the Swan and Rushes after the game yesterday. It was his first ever football match (he's at uni studying medicine) and he says he's now a lifelong Leicester fan. Lovely stuff.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 16 March 2014 Posted 16 March 2014 I was born in London with no affiliation with the City or County of Leicester whatsoever. Saw my first game back in 1966 and have been suffering ever since! I am currently working in Malaysia (where every body supports either Liverpool or Man United) and I was asked this very question only yesterday by my Boss - i.e. do you come from Leicester? No Idea why I got hooked, other than at the time of my first game I was only 13 years old and obviously very impressionable. Members of my family tried to persuade me to switch allegiance to West Ham and Charlton in my early years, but I resisted. Don't regret this strange coming together with LCFC for one minute, despite considerable heartbreak over 40+ years. COYB You started in the right decade, like myself, Weren't we lucky? City at their very best in the sixties. Up the Filberts!
Master Fox Posted 16 March 2014 Posted 16 March 2014 I've never lived in Leicester. I'm not from Leicester, and have no association apart from supporting the club for 20 years. Got taken to a game as a young kid, went to the club shop after the game and that was it.
-blue- Posted 16 March 2014 Posted 16 March 2014 My brother (who is on here somewhere) will tell anyone who will listen that he is from Leicester... HE IS NOT. He is from SWINDON! Fantastic! My dad used to tell me I could not support Swindon because they sat on footballs and squashed them, which is what girls do?? I am not sure it made any sense but it worked. Fantastic, made me laugh.
