C-man Posted 20 June 2015 Posted 20 June 2015 Yeah don't forget Davies' performance at Yeovil away. Was out of this world tbf.
Heymister2015 Posted 20 June 2015 Posted 20 June 2015 I'm on about going on a level! We've done all the master bating over what they've done in league 1 and the championship! I'm moving on! I'll see you in the premiership seeing that's where we are now!

I'll see you in the premiership seeing that's where we are now! with andy king and matty james in midfield, whilst mark davies is playing for a bottom half championship club and tunchev is, er, dunno. where is tunchev?
C-man Posted 20 June 2015 Posted 20 June 2015 yeah Mark Davies would get us to the next level of master bating with his 6 dynamic performances in a decade and a standing ovation from Bolton fans at Anfield. Resign him immediately.
C-man Posted 20 June 2015 Posted 20 June 2015 Presumably when heymister2015 talks about functionality, he's more impressed with midfielders who don't actually function... On 27 February 2013, Davies signed a new contract with Bolton, keeping at the club until 2017. Two days later Davies was ruled out with injury for up to ten months. His return came as he came on as a late substitute against Wigan ten months later in December 2013. He missed the final two months of that season with injury, as well as all of pre season and the first month of the following season. In November 2014, Davies was again injured, this time for up to four months
Heymister2015 Posted 20 June 2015 Posted 20 June 2015 Liverpool and Man U fans while king wasn't even getting applauded by Yeovil fans! Says it all! Anyway we now need more players of that ability! Rather then having like for like x 4
AKCJ Posted 20 June 2015 Posted 20 June 2015 It really does beggar belief that people can't appreciate they performances that brought us back from League One. Who cares what they've done since? When they were with us they looked ****ing awesome.
Alf Bentley Posted 20 June 2015 Posted 20 June 2015 I swear Tunch went down for match fixing Google brings up numerous references to him being 1 of 9 Bulgarian players arrested and questioned over match fixing. I don't see any mention of charges or players being sent down, though, so maybe there was nothing in it - or maybe it's still under investigation (arrests were in Dec 2014). According to Wikipedia, he played 28 games for CSKA Sofia last season - and won a recall to the Bulgaria squad, as an unused sub.

When they were with us they looked ****ing awesome. Tunch and Davies were very good in League One. No one is disputing that. Claiming that Drinkwater, King and James are merely functional is disrespectful and quite frankly mental.
Stadt Posted 20 June 2015 Posted 20 June 2015 Drinkwater was the best playmaker in the championship the year we went up, hardly functional whilst King has got over 50 goals from midfield. James you could argue was functional but at least he's not broken.

Claiming that Drinkwater, King and James are merely functional is disrespectful and quite frankly mental. It might be disrespectful, but it's more or less true, compared with others in the squad.

Just a shame to see that people won't appreciate two very good footballers. Put it this way, if Tunch and Davies didn't suffer career damaging injuries then I think they'd both have played plenty of Premier League appearances. I think they were that good.
Donut Posted 20 June 2015 Posted 20 June 2015 Dont see the point in adding Berner to the staff here, we have a very settled team behind the scenes as it is
Stadt Posted 20 June 2015 Posted 20 June 2015 It might be disrespectful, but it's more or less true, compared with others in the squad.Eh? What do you expect from our midfield, we're hardly going to have Busquest, Rakitic and Inirsta lining up for us.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 20 June 2015 Posted 20 June 2015 Eh? What do you expect from our midfield, we're hardly going to have Busquest, Rakitic and Inirsta lining up for us. No, just better quality, to remain a Premiership side. Invest to progress.

Claiming that Drinkwater, King and James are merely functional is disrespectful and quite frankly mental. Spot on. Both good footballers for us with potential to go higher but blighted by injury but to say they both make it into ANYONES ultimate lcfc team of all time is frankly obsurd. Mentalism
bovril Posted 20 June 2015 Posted 20 June 2015 I've seen Tunch play quite a bit. I saw him keep Di Natale in his pocket in an 08 WC qualifier. I also saw him play for CSKA this season when he was garbage. I hope to God he was match fixing otherwise the injury really did turn him from Maldini to Neil Lewis. Mark Davies was an incredibly good midfielder who for some reason, injuries or lack of motivation, never made it at the top level. Even in league 1 you know when a player is class, Davies and Tunchev were just that but it didn't work out for them. Berner I've always liked though thought was slightly overrated.

In what way did he come across as being "overrated"? Just because he joined from Blackburn, a then-Premier League outfit? Or because he had played two seasons in the Bundesliga with Freiburg, a - comparatively speaking - rather tiny club? From what I recall, he was one of the most reliable players we had a few years back and displayed utterly professional behaviour. In my eyes, he was part of the backbone the season we went back up to the Championship, but to be fair, the whole team back then seemed to be quite the unit. He was a more than solid left-back who also chucked in a fair few goals.

In that a lack of actual footballing ability is covered by a win-at-all-costs attitude.

He was a more than solid left-back who also chucked in a fair few goals. Fair enough. Semantics again I feel. I liked him a lot, as you said very reliable, very professional. Just the way he's talked about sometimes you'd be forgiven for thinking he was Roberto Carlos, I can't remember him being that amazing. But like I said, semantics...
Dan Posted 21 June 2015 Posted 21 June 2015 Can see what he's getting at to be fair although I'd say he ticked just about every box for a Championship full-back and his attitude/persona I've heard quoted as "the best they've ever worked with" by the coaching staff.
Itsblueuptnorth Posted 21 June 2015 Posted 21 June 2015 I don't see how you can be overrated as a defender? Your job is too defend and Bruno was a quality defender, you don't really have to be a good footballer to play as a defender so it's irrelevant tbh. Bruno was and is a model professional, and Sven ruined him. Don't see why it would be a bad thing to have him on the coaching staff, he doesn't seem the type to be disruptive or cause problems really
