AndWhat? Posted 20 March 2014 Posted 20 March 2014 I'm not being negative at all. Clearly no one fully read what I wrote. I'm simply offering an opinion that further segregating our fan base I don't think is a brilliant idea and that you can achieve what you're trying to without this Union BS. Plus I find it odd for people to state "We're speaking for the fans!", no, you're not! You are coming across as a complete dickhead.
blueonyou Posted 20 March 2014 Posted 20 March 2014 Ok let me explain it again. It's creating a "boys club". A "we're elite", "We're special" mentality. That's the segregation. I think collecting like-minded fans into a common area of the ground is great. That's not my point. Executing it this way I think creates elitism and will further feed the "I'm better than you" bull which is too common.
blueonyou Posted 20 March 2014 Posted 20 March 2014 You are coming across as a complete dickhead. Is that what you think of everyone who doesn't agree with you and has an opinion? grow a pair man.
Harry - LCFC Posted 20 March 2014 Posted 20 March 2014 Is that what you think of everyone who doesn't agree with you and has an opinion? grow a pair man. I agree with him and I don't usually take very well to insults. There are a group of fans who are clearly doing their best to generate an atmosphere and you're mocking them for it. It's not surprising to see people react in the way they have.

Harry - LCFC Posted 20 March 2014 Posted 20 March 2014 Who's mocking anyone? is this a self help group or a football forum? "Union BS" It was blatantly an attempt to ridicule what they're trying to achieve. Fvcks me off when people try to deny things that are as obvious as that. I'm not hurt but what you're saying and I'm sure no-one else is either but I it does annoy me. Mocking people for trying to generate and atmosphere sort of suggests you think it's a silly thing to do - that's not a view I appreciate much.

Ok,if there your concerns then fine. Here's mine.Remember the Man City game, ive never left a game so frustrated in my life. That could happen time after time next season if something isn't done. You probably have different ideas on how to improve our atmosphere like many others, but this group of fans, yes this group of fans not some Gestapo are doing something positive about it.It might work it might not but it's happening for real and not just a thought in somebody'a head.
blueonyou Posted 20 March 2014 Posted 20 March 2014 Oh FGS. Really? Grow up please. I you want to read my posts and engage in debate then feel free. I'm offering my opinion. As stated I think the idea is good, I don't agree with the execution. If you're going to whinge like a little girl because I state I think it's union bu11sh1t then please just don't bother.

Dan Posted 20 March 2014 Posted 20 March 2014 If people are that touchy about 'elitism' (which it isn't as ANYONE can join if it's something they're interested in) then maybe they wouldn't enjoy it up there anyway. Takes some serious nit-picker to be arsey about this.

I'm happy to listen to someone who thinks there's a better way of doing it, it's just that it sounded like you were against people making an effort in the first place - that was what I was criticising you for.
svensson Posted 20 March 2014 Posted 20 March 2014 I think its a great idea and well done for all the effort put in so far. Hopefully it will be a massive success! I don't see it as elitist at all. I would advise against Lee being your "spokesperson" though.
Soup Posted 20 March 2014 Posted 20 March 2014 I would like to say something regarding the elitist thing, when you say that word you think of a group all the same. The only thing in common up there is the singing. It's quite a refreshing mix there, different ages, genders and no set fashion at all which is good for me as I'm past that stage.
StanSP Posted 20 March 2014 Posted 20 March 2014 How is this Union FS different to the Fans Committee?Had a quick glance at the minutes yesterday (not in depth, admitted) - is the current aim only to do with SK1? What's the plan for afterwards if that gets sorted?

Had a quick glance at the minutes yesterday (not in depth, admitted) - is the current aim only to do with SK1? What's the plan for afterwards if that gets sorted? I think realistically there is enough room in SK1 to allow the group to grow to a large size, I can't see it getting so big it would need any other area. Don't get me wrong it would be great if it did but I just can't se it.

Don't get me wrong it would be great if it did but I just can't se it. I meant after the section of SK1 is sorted, what other fan issues are on the agenda? What other issues will they try and tackle? SK2 Forgot to say in my other post good luck to UFS. Sounds like they're trying to make a real difference and this meeting they had on Tuesday show they're not just all talk and actually willing to put some actions in place. Seems like they've already got the club on their side. When's the next meeting due? Before end of the season?
purpleronnie Posted 20 March 2014 Posted 20 March 2014 I'm glad to see there are still fans out there willing to get off their backsides and try and create a positive change, well done to all involved.
thybluefox Posted 20 March 2014 Posted 20 March 2014 How can people be against this, seriously? Different people will want to support the club in different ways. This is just about ensuring that those fans that want to sing for 90 minutes have a voice - after all over the last few seasons with the club concentrating on making it a 'nice' place for families, people have started to feel disillusioned. Why that would make other people feel like they're being segregated I've no idea. Or, how it could be considered elitist? Its a free group that anyone is free to join. Why do people have to piss on other peoples fire?

This may answer your queries; http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/topic/91161-a-new-fans-group-and-blog-drop-in-and-have-a-read/ I think there may be more to it than sorting out just one block (although that is the main aim). Cheers as well.
Union FS Posted 20 March 2014 Author Posted 20 March 2014 Thanks for all of the positive comments so far, they are very much appreciated, and they help us to feel vindicated in our current approach. It seems as though there are a few misconceptions, perhaps understandably, about what we are trying to achieve here. First, let us just stress that this is absolutely not about creating an “elite†mindset or a “we are much better than you†fan section; in fact, it is quite the opposite. Union FS have stressed from the beginning that they will not be drawn in to an L1 vs SK1-type debate, nor will they be condemning or insulting other fans, as it serves no purpose and is completely detrimental to the overall aim. It was one of the driving forces in choosing to start with a fanzine, as we believe that the key was and is to remain as neutral and non-polarised as possible. Every member (and non-member for that matter) is entitled to their own opinion, and there is no way we would want to stifle that. However, any “official†(for want of a better word) action or update will come from this account and this account only having been discussed and agreed upon beforehand. As a group, we are not only interested in supporting our members or being a “closed, invite-only groupâ€. We held an open AGM earlier this year for both members and non-members alike to have an input and share their ideas, and there will be similar events held in the future. Our fanzine has also published articles in support of other clubs (http://filbospirit.wordpress.com/2013/11/18/mauled-by-greed-whats-in-a-name/), non-member fans and also FSF campaigns including safe standing and 'Twenty's Plenty', which will benefit supporters as a whole, not only supporters on our membership list. On our “About Us†page, we make it clear that we wish to improve conditions and attendance for football fans across the board – old, young, new, season-ticket holders, non season-ticket holders, standers, sitters, singers (and even complainers!) – as we remain convinced that fans are the most important commodity a club has (http://filbospirit.wordpress.com/union-fs/about-us/). Furthermore, the block being proposed in SK1 would “be designed augment L1 and not hinder it†(http://filbospirit.wordpress.com/2014/01/02/minutes-from-our-first-meeting/#more-477). The specific area of SK1 mooted is one in which few STHs currently reside; of those that do, many are already members of UFS. There are many empty seats in the aforementioned area, and it is our belief – and that of the club – that this area would significantly reduce any disruption caused if we were to position ourselves there. The oft-cited “singers are too spread out†and “everybody sings a different song†criticisms both in grounds and on here further fuel our belief that securing a larger contingent of singers together would produce a positive, desirable, perhaps even galvanising outcome – one which we saw during the recent trial game vs Charlton. The block is not “invite onlyâ€, nor will it ever be. Anybody is free to move there, anybody is free to be there, and it is their right as much as it is “oursâ€. There are no membership costs, nor have we asked for any contributions. Accessibility is key. If you wish to become a member, all we ask is that you send us an email telling us who you are, whether or not you are a season ticket holder, and how many games you attend per season. It helps us to keep an official record of our numbers, growth and support, and ensures that we can keep everybody in the loop as much as possible with regards to any developments. We currently have STH and non-STH members alike, a broad age-spectrum, and members ranging from ex-pats to those who attend every game. Feedback is invited on all of our posts on here, is actively sought from members on our mailing list and has been used in getting this group off of the ground and moving it forwards. All of the advice is taken on board, and we have learned an awful lot from efforts which have gone before us. Union FS.

Its all to do with the weather, its mild for the time of year, some people feel frustrated because they can't moan about it so where do they turn their attention to...the football. And lets face it we people of Leicester do like a good moan.
