Babylon Posted 20 March 2014 Posted 20 March 2014 Sounds more like an exclusive club to me. An exclusive club which from what I can gather is free and open to anyone to join.... worst exclusive club EVER.
harpendenfox Posted 20 March 2014 Posted 20 March 2014 How is this Union FS different to the Fans Committee? Had a quick glance at the minutes yesterday (not in depth, admitted) - is the current aim only to do with SK1? What's the plan for afterwards if that gets sorted? The Sudetenland. Then Poland
steveherbe Posted 20 March 2014 Posted 20 March 2014 Ok let me explain it again. It's creating a "boys club". A "we're elite", "We're special" mentality. That's the segregation. I think collecting like-minded fans into a common area of the ground is great. That's not my point. Executing it this way I think creates elitism and will further feed the "I'm better than you" bull which is too common.
Carl the Llama Posted 20 March 2014 Posted 20 March 2014 Then please explain how it is making the group elitist or come across as better fans because at the moment you are just saying it is without clearly showing how this is happening. Being realistic, of course a project like this is going to attract elitist people. A suspicion confirmed early doors when resident superiority complex representative Cityfanlee jumped ever so predictably into the "hardcore fan" chat which we've had too much of on here in the past few years(it's subsided a fair bit lately but I'll be pleasantly shocked if we don't see that sentiment grow in popularity again next year). Blueonyou needs to realise that this doesn't mean that all members will be unnecessary elitists, and everyone else needs to realise that acknowledging that this kind of person will be attracted isn't a slur on the organisation or what it aims to achieve.
steveherbe Posted 20 March 2014 Posted 20 March 2014 Wrong wrong wrong. Boys club? I was in there for the Carlton game and I am sixty fooking two! And my wife was there, last time I looked she is no boy. Simple, don't want to join us, don't. Just bugger off and piss on someone else's parade
hackneyfox Posted 20 March 2014 Posted 20 March 2014 Union FS It really would be best if all replies came through yourselves and not individual members. Calling people dickheads is no way to get the masses on your side.
Captain... Posted 20 March 2014 Posted 20 March 2014 A few thoughts on reading the minutes, firstly great to see the club take an active involvement and great that Union FS are trying to work with the club... ...but I'm not a fan of the membership idea, I understand it, but I don't like it I also understand the division argument. I know it is not the intention, but it sometimes comes across on here as the battle of the fans, which it shouldn't be. Or it should be but in good spirit, alternating songs with L1, trying to out sing each other, but no being dicks about it afterwards (Lee I'm looking at you). I also think there is the danger of alienating those round you and not getting the whole kop involved as you focus internally and seem more intent on running through the song book and singing new songs rather than getting a good atmosphere going through out the ground 10 minutes of Bloo Armee, well get a better atmosphere than WYS, Molly Malone, Iwan is a Welshman, hark etc. That is from comments on here BTW, I've not been to the last couple of home matches... Which leads me on the my next observation, it seems to be a season ticket holders only club, I know you want to reserve a block for people to move their season tickets too, and want a regular crowd of dedicated memebers, but again it adds to the feelings of elitism and division, is there a possibility to reserve a section close by for those that can't get to every match but still like to sing. I don't want it to seem like I am being negative, just some observations, I want you to succeed, but to do so you should listen to the comments on here and not just dimiss them as bitter and argumentative, even if badly worded and seem that way. Edit: This was written before Union FS replied

As far as I can see this is trying to attract people that want to sing all game. Are you saying that those types of people are all elitist? Pretty bold statement that.
AndWhat? Posted 20 March 2014 Posted 20 March 2014 Union FS It really would be best if all replies came through yourselves and not individual members. Calling people dickheads is no way to get the masses on your side. My views are my views, not Union FS' , Filbo Spirits or anyone else's. Just because I think that guy is a dickhead doesn't mean that Union FS and all of its members do.......
Carl the Llama Posted 20 March 2014 Posted 20 March 2014 As far as I can see this is trying to attract people that want to sing all game. Are you saying that those types of people are all elitist? Pretty bold statement that. No I'm very clearly not saying that. A good attempt, but if you try reading my post again you might just spot where I specifically say the opposite of what you claim. I'm not going to highlight it for you because working it out for yourself is the best way to learn.
C-man Posted 20 March 2014 Posted 20 March 2014 Union FS It really would be best if all replies came through yourselves and not individual members. Calling people dickheads is no way to get the masses on your side. Absolutely correct but to be fair, I've lost count of the number of times I have read that all official correspondence and views of Union FS will come through the Filbo Spirit account on here only. It cannot really do much more than that - it cannot censor its 'patrons', who have as much right to reply as anyone who has a negative opinion of the group.

Harry - LCFC Posted 20 March 2014 Posted 20 March 2014 I do think you shouldn't be too strict on membership. Let it be a statement of association with UFS and that's it, otherwise let people be as involved/uninvolved as they want, membership or not. But you seem to be doing that anyway so no bother really

Sol thewall Bamba Posted 20 March 2014 Posted 20 March 2014 Wouldnt it be better in the middle of the kop. Not enough space and there are a lot of existing season ticket holders there. In SK1 there were no season ticket holders so we wouldn't have to ask anyone to move
Captain... Posted 20 March 2014 Posted 20 March 2014 I personally think the membership thing is a great idea as it becomes part of the self policing idea and therefore the stewards won't be running up and down telling everyone off because they know there's an element of responsibility. Like I said I understand it, it just leads to division, even though it is free and easy to join, the self policing bit concerns me as well, if I'm honest, I mean there isn't going to be a barrier around the group so someone nearby acting up may not take kindly to being told by a memeber of Union FS what to do, I know now you probably all know each other by face, but if this expands and non season ticket holders join the group then that won't be the case. I could also see some tension as invariably you may have to ban someone from the group and kick them out at some point, or they will get thrown out the ground rightly or wrongly then it will become political, unless you start having a selective memebership approach. The union will have to take responsibility for the actions of their members, it won't be as easy going forwards as it has been so far as you attract more members you will get more problems. Good luck, but at some point the values and ideal will be challenged by one of the members.

I'm not a member, but i sit in sk1 and can see and hear the difference they are making, they look like they are enjoying it so at the moment i can only see positives from what they are doing and not the negatives about what might happen.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 20 March 2014 Posted 20 March 2014 This is moving along nicely and it is clearly an open and inclusive group who wish to express their right to sing and loudly support the club they love. There is no disrespect to other fans who choose to support their club in their own way. It is not a marker for how good a fan you are and those that attend just 1 game a year are clearly welcome to join. It would be nice if people didn't make things up to suggest otherwise or try to create a rivalry with other parts of the ground but being realistic, from the anonymity of a keyboard some will do just that. Hopefully anyone thinking of joining will take no notice of these people and realise what the group is and celebrate it as part of the whole of the fantastic fan base Leicester City has. We are all fans of the wonderful LCFC and support in our differing ways, lets celebrate the diversity of support and work together for the benefit of the club and the team and ourselves. Above all lets ALL enjoy supporting our club. Well said GaryTotally this
MATLCFC Posted 20 March 2014 Posted 20 March 2014 Union FS has come across fantastically well so far offering a very balanced view which appears to me to encompass all fans. This is such a great opportunity to actually create a singing section with some major clout and it would seem even the club approve of the ideas put forward so far. For me the whole concept really isn’t that difficult, I’m not even sure what there is to be debate? The way I read it is…..If you are a fan of any background and like to create a positive atmosphere go and sit with Union FS in SK1 (a fairly sparsely populated area of the ground) and sing your heart out and have a good time for 90 minutes. There is no clique or secret handshake. Union FS simply want people to sign up so they can keep people who are interested in loop with any developments. I personally find it bizarre how much people read into things that just aren’t there, just my opinion mind you! It just needs people to actually get involved now. Thank you Union FS for all the hard work put in so far
davieG Posted 20 March 2014 Posted 20 March 2014 Judging from this topic and if I remember correctly this is how the Fosse Boys started and failed "one or a few" of them took it upon themselves to explain the philosophy/concept behind the grouping and came across as 'elitist', 'better than thou' and ending up misrepresenting the group
hackneyfox Posted 20 March 2014 Posted 20 March 2014 Certain posters don't help and though they may claim to be only posting their opinion and not that of Union FS it can easily be misconstrued.
