Will we break our transfer record in the summer?

I know it is all guesswork, and why I'm trying not to speculate on what it means to gates, merchandise, wages and everything else, the only thing guaranteed is that we will get £63m, (+ a further £60 million in parachute payments should we get relegated) and we could make it all available. This season is the first of the new tv deal, and look at what Palace, Cardiff and Hull have spent because of this, all 3 have spent more than our current transfer record on a player, so I think it is safe to say we will have the money to do so, whether we do or not, I have no idea.

Yes they all spent what, about £30/£35m, + extra on wages like I said.

Their owners haven't cleared their debts and bought their stadium recently though. The club owes the Thai's a pay day unfortuantley!

I doubt the owners are in this for a pay day, but we owe them a long stint in the prem, and limiting our spending power to line their own pockets would be perverse, and completely contrary to everything they have done so far.

Like many others I doubt NP will be going crazy with the money, but if he identifies the right targets that can establish us as a prem club, then we have the money available to back him in the transfer market.

They'll take some of that promotion money mark my words. They'll invest but they'll take a bit back for themselves, and I can't fault them either.

They will take a chunk out, and no doubt start charging a nice interest rate on the loan for the stadium.

They could probably take out £20m and still leave us with around with the £30m spend on fees and extra to cover wages. With losing so many earners this summer it does us a massive favour in the wages department.

Yes it is good that some more of the Sven era are moving on in the summer, some of their wages will be approaching top level wages.

Would it not make sense for them financially to invest in the squad to keep us in the premiership?

You cant argue though he was the best player in the league though when Palace went up, he is quick, skilful, two footed and he know where the goal is

Wasn't even Palace's best winger.

Turned up in the big games though to his credit.

They are clearly going to give him some investment (as I've said about four times now I think) It just wont be the full whack, and it shouldn't be A) their owed a return B) He doesn't need 63 million to keep us up. He's got a great base to build on and no debt.

To me it does, then they can pocket any extra we get for finishing above bottom, I think it is a around £1 million per position, they will also be benefitting from extra exposure on the shirts and stadium name. I don't see why they would jeopardise that to line their pockets early on, when they can fill their boots when we are an established prem team.

I don't think anyone has mentioned Southampton yet.  You could see them as a similar club to LCFC in status, size, finances and ownership.

If you look here you can see their transfer spend: http://www.transferleague.co.uk/football-transfers/southampton-transfers.html

Their spend in the last 3 seasons:

2011/2012 = £1.8m

2012/2013 = £32.7m

2013/2014 = £37.5m

Just shows what big money is available when you get to the premiership as they did in 2012.  I think it also shows what is required to reach top half of premiership as they are now.

I think it is a good benchmark as to what is required by Leicester.

I agree with you guys, I think that others have to realize that our owners want success at the top level to get the type of payback they really want, not just some 10 or 20M with a couple of seasons survival, but huge exposure in the UK and especially abroad in the far east. For that tehy will need to spend big bucks so they can get back 100M+

it´s big business boys and about time all LCFC fans started dreaming the big dream Premier success with a great team.

You see, here is the grand flaw in your plan... survival isn't guaranteed no matter what you spend. It's almost like the last 3/4 years haven't happened.

Teams going up often spend around the £30m mark, as I have already said. But again here is the problem, Saints even with the riches of the premier made a loss of £7.5m last year and still owe £27m in fees for players, that their board say will have to be paid next year.

People on here are clearing underestimating the running costs, and overestimating the money coming in if they think we're going to spunk £50m on transfers and that it will just come from the money we have coming in.

Sensible investment will happen without question, but for the first time in a long time we are debt free other than the stadium... do we really want to be going down that road again? Bolton were an "established team" and they are currently struggling with £150m + of debt... and that's after years and years of premier league money.

veezeeblue talks about it being big business in a rather condescending manner, well I wouldn't want my business spending money it can't afford, and I'd also want my business to plan for every eventual outcome and that includes relegation. Because coming down with bundles of players we can't afford losing money hand over fist is a possibility.

Absolutely.... QPR anyone?

The owners will take some money and so they should.

This team doesn't need 63 Million pounds injected into it to achieve it's goals anyway, if anything it'd be counter productive we've got a good side that needs building on not ripping up and putting back together.

I am happy for the owners to recoup some money without leaving us at a competitive disadvantage, we owe them everything!

I believe we'll spend between 12M - 20M and yes we will break our transfer record, I'd possibly be concerned if we didn't.

Thanks God the World Cup will take my attention away from transfers for a month, it's hell!

A lot will be down to the players that Steve Walsh and Nigel Pearson have identified over the last couple of seasons. We know they have been planning for the possibility of promotion for that long, and they will have been intently watching potential signings for much of this season.

I certainly cannot see us spending huge money on what could be termed 'names' currently in the Prem.

I am expecting promising younger players from the Championship and possibly abroad, as well as more mature quality players from abroad that will all hopefully be excellent value.

Part of the secret is to keep the wages costs down as much as possible - younger players who aspire to Premiership football and real quality 'from under the radar' will help to do this.

One or two low cost 'gems' from Asia could also be on the cards to help with marketing income from the far East.

Steve Walsh, the scout, is key to all of this.

The owners wont go mad.

They will want to recoup their invetment as quick as possible, but will also realise this require capital investment.

So it will be a balancing act. lets hope they have better advisors than Tony fernandes who looks like a complete mug right now

tbh i think we will go for 2 quality players from a prem team , 2 or 3 young players identified by walsh and pearson which could be the next big thing , 2 loan players from teams like arsenal or man utd and then i really think we will see a big name asian player .

you have to remember its not just about uk tv money but revenue from abroad and i read that our games alone against man utd will net the owners upwards of 10-15 million from the asian regions

100000%

On the note of breaking our transfer record, It would be easy with the way money has inflated compared to 10-20 years ago, but it still wont bring us success

I dont think dreaming of Leicester as one of the top 10 clubs in the Premier (which would require a shift in mindset for a lot of people at and in Leicester City if you consider our past) is condescending, though thought provoking it was certainly meant to be. So thanks for your comments.

My pont is that we need to spend a significant amount to get a squad with the quality in depth to achieve this and I feel and hope that the owners have their eyes on bigger prizes than basic survival in the Premier. The returns for them if they follow and finacially back this dream are far higher than if they do the minimum for perceived survival. It may take a couple of years but serious investment could return serious divdends. The EPL is the most watched league in the world and with the right approach Leicester City could become a household name across the world. This will only happen if we take the steps necessary to stay there for a number of years and are seen to be contenders. No risk no reward.

I continue to hope and dream.

Household name lol

To be honest, after Everton and Tottenham, I don't think that any teams are 'household names' in the Prem.

Whilst you dream, there is also a reality of it all going massively tits up.

There seems to be three groups of people on here, those who want to chuck shit loads of cash at it and sod the consequences. Those who only want to sign two players for fear of upsetting the apple cart, and those that think perhaps somewhere in between is the best way to go... the latter being the camp I am firmly in.
