Leicester1884Filbert Posted 30 March 2014 Posted 30 March 2014 As nice as that'd be, it ain't gonna happen. Right now there are two PL strikers with over 20, and if current goals/game form is roughly continued, there will be 2 more. Those players are Suarez, Sturridge, Yaya Toure and Aguero. We wouldn't stand a chance if we tried to sign a player of their sort of calibre. Someone like Jay Rodriguez (15 goals so far) is probably the absolute best we could hope for, and he wouldn't come cheap. I'm in two minds about players like Cresswell and McCormack. On one hand, they're doing fantastically in the Championship, but on the other hand, we don't know how well they will perform, and with the amount of money potentially available for us to spend, there are far more experienced options available out there. It's going to be interesting to see how Nige and Walsh tackle this summer. every single team in the Premier League is looking for a 20+ goal striker, a good 15 clubs will be ahead of us for his signature if he does come along. Any player that can score 10+ in the Prem will be brilliant.
Finnaldo Posted 30 March 2014 Posted 30 March 2014 Depends on what Pearson is thinking, do we go for safety or do we spend a bit and go towards the mid table mark? Pearson likes to build it up. That's why he took us on I reckon. I think his long term plan since League 1 was to establish us in the Prem for a couple of seasons, that's why he came back. He'll get the foundations right, look to stay up and then begin to build further for a mid-table spot.
Renart Posted 30 March 2014 Posted 30 March 2014 I think we'll go for McCormack or even Rhodes, and they will cost more than £5.5m. Mate of mine is a Leeds fan and is absolutely adamant that McCormack is on his way to us if we're promoted. My Uncle is a Leeds fan and keeps saying the same. It may be just speculation as to coming to us but they all seem pretty certain he's leaving. A good friend of mine is a Leeds fan and he also seems to think that McCormack is on his way out of Elland Road, probably to a bottom half of the table Prem club or newly promoted club. He also thinks that Leeds financial position will mean that he will go on the cheap! Certainly not £5.5mil. Leeds will once once again become a selling club - as they were the last time that they got into financial difficulties. Now, whether we want him is another matter.

Lionator Posted 30 March 2014 Posted 30 March 2014 We have a striker who can score 10 in the premier league already. We need a top notch striker who can score 20+. Absolutely ridiculous statement. Only two players in the whole PL have more than 20 goals this season. If we could get two players into double figures, then that'd be enough.

We have no idea, he's never played in the prem and might not even get into our team on a regular basis.
Steven Posted 30 March 2014 Posted 30 March 2014 McCormack is a good championship striker but no better than that and what we have got upfront personally, I would hope we would go for better quality players no disrespect. For all the good that does. I am not sure McCormack has as much influence on the rest of the team as a Vardy or Nugent does. No thanks.
Happy Fox Posted 30 March 2014 Posted 30 March 2014 If Dull can sign players such as Jelavic and Long then surely we should be capable of bringing in similar sorts of players.
conLAD logan Posted 30 March 2014 Posted 30 March 2014 Here we go again with the 20 goal a season striker talk
weller54 Posted 30 March 2014 Posted 30 March 2014 Rather Deeney than Mccormack, and he'll be cheaper!!
kingfox Posted 30 March 2014 Posted 30 March 2014 For us to stay up, we need to sign a class striker who has scored 15-20 goals in their respective leagues, or someone with Premier League experience. However I don't think another Championship striker is the answer. Hull this season signed both Long & Jelavic, as they were struggling to score goals in the first half of the season, two players with Premier League experience. Or we could well pluck out someone, like Villa did with Benteke, he has kept them afloat on his own the past couple of season's. I would break our transfer record and bid about £8 million for Alfred Finnbogason, a player who has scored 25 goals in 27 matches this season, while he scored 24 goals in 31 matches last season.

You have to be really careful with players from leagues outside of the top five. That's a cracking record but you only have to look at players like Afonso Alves, Kezman and even Van Wolfswinkel to see that its a huge risk to splash the cash on these types of players. I hope that we either get someone with big league experience or a younger striker with huge potential.
Tielemans63 Posted 30 March 2014 Posted 30 March 2014 I think we'll approach it in a similar way to Cardiff (hopefully more successfully) and bring in 3 or 4 players for substantial fees.

Of course so, but then on the other side of the coin, like I mentioned with Benteke, he came from Genk in Belgium, and kept Villa afloat basically on his own.
Langston Posted 30 March 2014 Posted 30 March 2014 I watch a fair bit of Belgian football because I'm incredibly tedious and there's a lad plays on the wing for Brugge called Maxime Lestienne who I'd absolutely love us to go in for - been linked to top-flight sides in this country previously and looks to have all the right attributes, lightning. It's all very exciting, isn't it?
johnny the fox Posted 30 March 2014 Posted 30 March 2014 We need to sniff through the wreckage and pick clean the carcases of failed teams in both the championship and premier, and continue to unearth gems from abroad. no need to spend a fortune IMO.
Mark_from_USA Posted 30 March 2014 Posted 30 March 2014 Tom Ince? He is a free agent this summer. Perhaps if Palace take the drop. He has talked about Monaco though.

It's all very exciting, isn't it? Just a bit. My first proper season was 2005-06 (I think) and the first few years of that was watching us be generally shite and then get relegated, watch us win a league that we never wanted to be in and then watch us become so close but fail every time. Finally we're in the Premier League for the first time I can remember with a manager I trust to make the right decisions and get the right players in. Prepared for a struggle like my first year but it will be enjoyable being one of England's elite 20
kingfox Posted 30 March 2014 Posted 30 March 2014 Pablo Sarabia, currently playing for Getafe who are in the La Liga relegation zone. Spanish Under 21, accordingly worth about £3 million, been touted as the next Mata.
