Will we break our transfer record in the summer?

Pablo Sarabia, currently playing for Getafe who are in the La Liga relegation zone.

Spanish Under 21, accordingly worth about £3 million, been touted as the next Mata.

Sounds decent, been linked with Man U though, do you think he'd want to sign for us? Would be a good signing though.

Have we ever had a permanent Spanish player?

I don't think its a case of will we break the transfer record. If pearson wants a player whos value is 8 million and pearson thinks he fits into what we are doing then he would pay it.

However if he wants a player and the selling club want 8 million but pearson thinks he's worth 3 then he won't be coming here.

The other thing I think has a baring is are we spending 8 million plus on jordan Rhodes for example and payinģ him 40 grand a week. Fine that's prob ok withing the club.

If we are signing some slightly past it big name foreigner and he's after 70 plus k a week. Again not sure that is happening due to the knock on effect for the rest of the squad. The thais have been burnt by that once already.

Of the "cheapest" clubs in the premier only stoke are free of relegation worrys and of the 4 cheapest 2 are in the drop zone

And btw cheap in Premier terms is 50M to 70M total worth, LCFC current squad value is 25M

Conclude what you will but if we dont spend over 25M on new players & swaps we will be the cheapest premier squad by a long way

I suggest a good 15M to 20M spending spree in the summer to build out current playing squad.

We will need class in depth to survive,

Wilfred Zaha available for 5 million in the summer according to the Mail from BBC Gossip.

That'd mean essentially  4 quality wingers if we went for him which would give us fantastic strength in depth especially considering the french lads can play in other positions too:

United are ready to part with Wilfried Zaha, 21, for a cut-price £5m this summer, despite having signed the forward in a £10m deal from Crystal Palace in January 2013.

Whomever we sign, I can't see Person spending large chunks of money. He doesn't strike me as a manager who'd fall for big names (and thus, high wages).

Unless the player(s) fit(s) the profile and our playing style, that is.

It's a fine line between strengthening the squad and not upsetting the existing chemistry.

I suppose the core of the squad will remain the same as it is right now, with five to six of our "fringe" players leaving (either permanently or on a season-long loan) and as many new faces coming in.

I agree that'll likely be the approach - it does make me wonder about the quality of what we have though, if Liverpool can demolish that Spurs side 4-0 what would they have done to us?

I tend to agree, however Akinbiyi scored 9 in his first season though...

Did we not come 13th though? I would take 13th in the Premier League next year.

Of course so, but then on the other side of the coin, like I mentioned with Benteke, he came from Genk in Belgium, and kept Villa afloat basically on his own.

That's as simple as Benteke being a better forward than Kezman, van Wolfswinkel etc.. not about where they come from.

Isn't he meant to be into a bit too much clubbing etc...

I can see him settled down with Pearson's daughter in no time - stability is the key and Nigel will recognise that.

Nope. Miquel is the only Spaniard to ever play for us.

Cardiff fans extremely unimpressed apparently.

Not how much we spend it's how well we spend it. I believe we have a manager and back room staff that will spend wisely. We'll be ok. Think we'll spend 15 - 20 million. Mostly younger hungry players but maybe 1 established premier player.

Posted

Honestly think one of the players we sign will complete smash our transfer record, our owners are going to want names at the club. People need to remember we were putting audacious bids in for David Beckham not all that long ago, our owners aren't messing about.

I do understand your point, but I work with a Spurs fan and he reckons they are awful at the moment, stupid mistakes, no team unity and a manager who won't be in charge next season.

I am sure we will struggle against the top 6 sides but we can give the rest a test. Take heart from crystal Palace on Saturday they beat Chelsea and are Palace loads better than us?

Posted

Palace have made additions but have a good manager who can organise a defence. I think player for player they really aren't much better than us, if at all.

I really do think the worst thing we can do is spend loads on 'name' players, disrupting the team harmony, boosting the wage bill and becoming a poorer team as a result. That's what Cardiff have done (although I've got this horrible feeling they're going to stay up on the last day)

Don't you think that the market value of a number of our players will rise markedly when (hopefully) they win the Championship and if/when they prove that they can perform at Premier League level?

3-4 new Premier quality players, maybe 2-3 future prospects and a little shedding of back-up players, please!

We'll certainly need to spend a few million, but needn't be £15-20m if carefully selected....and Pearson/Walsh have a good track record at digging up players with potential without spending the earth.

t may be that the owners would want a "marquee signing" for their commercial promotional purposes. If so, I hope they give Pearson & co the final say, so as to ensure that it's someone who'll fit into his squad ethic, boosting not undermining morale.

I think spending money on 'name' players is a bad idea as well tbh, but I don't think our owners are going to be able to help themselves if we get to the promised land. Nigel's  steadied the ship, but we all saw what the original plan was. Without something like FFP holding us back it's going to be back to bidding 7 million for Nicky Maynard. I hope I'm wrong.

You may be right and only time will really tell, but I'd like to think the owners have full faith in Pearson to know who to sign rather than trying to dictate things themselves.

I wouldn't be shocked to see us go in for a big name Japanese/Korean player.

Just seen Suarez in Morrisons buying some hot cross buns.

At least they'd probably taste nicer than Ivanovic.

Remember - Walsh was the guy that advised mourinho to buy drogba and essien, as well as the likes of Zola and Tore Andre flo before them.

There's not too many better scouts in the country really.

AS others have said, a similar approach to Hull's deals would be likely. They paid just under £20 million to sign 3 premier league quality players in jelavic, long and huddlestone.

I would expect Nige (well walsh really) to look abroad though, and wouldn't be surprised to see us sign a 'cabaye/drogba' like gem. Maybe even look to italy and spain given the poor finances of the leagues over there.

They probably would have gotten jelavic and long for half the combined price in the summer, good signings nonetheless.
