Where realistically can we finish in the Prem

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, first post on here, though FT has been my daily fix since the Hollowhead years! I think we should hope for survival and anything else is a bonus. It would be great to consolidate and then and allow Nigel to carry on building with Young Hungry Players who want to play for the Foxes.

Will take patience and backing from the owners and supporters. I try and get down to the KP when I can and can't help but wonder which comes first....Great backing from the crowd - followed by the boys turning it on or the other way round.

We have to play our part as part of the team back them from start to finish...Sure there will have off days, but it won't be down to lack of effort - not under Nige anway!

Looking forward to the party tomorrow!!

Top half will be some ask and beyond us, I reckon we can be like Southampton and finish around 14th/15th in our first year and push on.

If we get a good start and can amass ten points early doors I reckon a top half finish might be possible - if the fixture list is unkind and the heads go down it'll be a grind for 16th!

I think 14-15th.

I'm confident that we won't go down first time and can use this season to stablise our position.

I'm confident partly based on NP's quote that he has been planning for this day for two years. He knows his team and its strengths inside out, and will have a good idea of the gaps he needs to fill.

You have to trust the man who has got us this far; he undoubtably know what awaits us, and must have managed expectations with the owners for when we get a right pasting (which will happen) from Liverpool et al.

It's so impossible to tell. We could be fighting for survival or top 10. I think the key thing will be pre-season and how / if the players can adapt to the PL and how quickly. I have a feeling NP isn't going to go and sign big names or big players. I reckon (and I hope he's right) he thinks sticking with a good team will win you games, let's face it technically we have a good side, but how many times do you see great players play badly because they are not a team?

Don't get me wrong, we'd need "World Class" players to fight for anything other than top 10, but I have faith in Nige, I think he will really show the PL how to manage a club and build a solid old school team who are capable of competing without having £10m+ arrogant arses in your squad.

I dont get all the bum love for Hull. They could still go down.

They could go down but they're currently 12th and 11 points clear of relegation so it's unlikely isn't it? I cited Hull as they've brought in decent players like Huddlestone, Jelavic and Long etc, they've established a good home record, they're also in the FA cup semi-final. Is that not a decent first season in the prem?

Don't get me wrong, I can't stand Hull - horrible club and fans imho but I respect the progress they've made this season.

Congratulations and welcome back to Leicester fans from an MCFC fan (of 33 years standing).

Don't know why - always had a soft spot for Leicester - and went to Filbert Street many times.

Great club, great fans - you made plenty of noise and stayed to the end when we played you over there in Dec. You always have a good away following too. I have always found yours a friendly club and fans (never encountered The Baby Squad though!). It will be good to have a proper club with proper support back in the Premier League - to counter balance the plastics that latch onto the $ky 4.

I have had some great days out in Leicester...2011 when there was the red n black scarves and Neil Young (scorer of the winning goal in the 1969 FA Cup FInal to those too young!) tribute. Exciting game (we nearly chucked it away), Cracking atmosphere and we got you back home where we triumphed on our way to our first trophy in 35 years.

My first trip to Leicester was 86/87 where we sadly lost a relegation dog-mauling (it certainly wasn't a dogfight) 4-0. Everything that could go wrong went wrong....a short Stevey Redmond backpass sticking in the mud..Perry Suckling couldn't catch a bar of soap in Strangeways (or nearby Leicester prison) that day. Alan Smith (later of Arsenal) kept sticking out his gangly legs to score a couple. We knew we were going down after that day even if there was a way to go. We were a poor side. Players like Kevin Langley who was dogshit. Still, despite thar we had a good day out and got nicely oiled on the local brew, Everard's Tiger. Both MCFC and LCFC went down in the end with Villa :-(

I remmeber the following Div 2 season (1-1 draw if I recall rightly - David Pleat your manager?) going into a Leicester chippy and asking for a chip butty (I was trying to be helpful not using the Manchester vernacular "chip barm") and getting tld in noncertain terms "Chip cob"!

It was a tense day out when we eked a vital draw under Kevin Keegan when Dicky fluffed that pen. We stayed up the Foxes went down eventually. Now you'e back and if you check out our Bluemoon-mcfc thread you'll see more than a few of us are pleased for you.

Good luck to Leicester (except v MCFC of course), I think and hope you stay up.

Who do you think will mke the grade in the top flight? Where does Pearson need to strengthen?

The squad we have now is good enlightening o ruffle a few feathers so with a few additions I think we could be good enough to finish roughly where Hull have this season. Somewhere between 12th-15th is realistic imo. However, I'd so happily take 17th or above. If we survive next year that's job done!

Let's not get too ahead of ourselves.

I'd be over the moon with 17th first season, anything above that is a bonus.

This, 17th is the aim, survival first. I do believe we have the squad, infrastructure etc. to do a Southampton and finish 11th-14th.

Everybody below 8th has their own mini league where anybody could come anywhere. It's basically another little Championship but instead of promotion you have the privilege at looking at Manchester United's arse if you come top. This year Southampton will take the crown from West Brom.

Let's get real, if we're in the bottom 3 for too long, and especially if we're bottom after a few months, Pearson will be sacked.

I think we'll do ok though. Realistically I think we can finish 9th-20th. I think we'll be about 11th-14th, as an early estimate, but of course, we'll need to buy well.

I agree that Hull are the model, and see no reason why we can't emulate their achievements. This team is better than the Hull side that got promoted last season, they finished with ten points less than we have now with six games to go, and with Walsh and Shakey's scouting I can see us buying well.

We need fringe players of other more established Premier League clubs, as Hull have done very successfully with Jelavic, Long and Huddlestone, and we do seem to be good at unearthing gems like those players as with Drinkwater and James.

I personally don't see us going straight back down. Our team is one of the best to go up from the Championship for a long time, we're certainly better than Cardiff and Reading were in recent years, and we tend to buy very well too.

I'd be disappointed to see us in a massive relegation battle all season because we can do better given the funding, talent and scouting available to us. I'd say that somewhere between 10th and 14th is realistic, from which we can kick on in the future.

You guys saying 17th are of course correct in that we should hope for premiership survival in the first season back.

However I really hope we adapt well, give a good account of ourselves (team and fans) and we end up 10th.

Ok there it is I've said it 10th.

I now await to be shot down next season if we end up lower than 10th, if we end up above

10th !!! then SHOOT AWAY!

It seems quite easy to draw comparisons to southampton, we obviously do have a lot of potential. However, that saints team already included some exceptional talent, Lallana, Rodriguez, Lambert, Schneiderlin and Shaw to name but a few, in my opinion are a fair bit better than our current stock. There's no reason why we can't be competing with them in 2 or 3 seasons, but the talk of a top 10 finish in our first season to me is very ambitious. Survival has to be the focus first season, with an aim to establish ourselves as a top 10 club over the next couple of years.

Although it does seem pretty dull thinking rationally after being promoted on the back of a 21 game unbeaten run, fvck it lets carry that into next season, beat Arsenals 49 and push on for Europa league!!
