Where realistically can we finish in the Prem

It seems quite easy to draw comparisons to southampton, we obviously do have a lot of potential. However, that saints team already included some exceptional talent, Lallana, Rodriguez, Lambert, Schneiderlin and Shaw to name but a few, in my opinion are a fair bit better than our current stock. There's no reason why we can't be competing with them in 2 or 3 seasons, but the talk of a top 10 finish in our first season to me is very ambitious. Survival has to be the focus first season, with an aim to establish ourselves as a top 10 club over the next couple of years.

Although it does seem pretty dull thinking rationally after being promoted on the back of a 21 game unbeaten run, fvck it lets carry that into next season, beat Arsenals 49 and push on for Europa league!!

True about Southampton's talent. Butvwe have players capable of stepping up. Mahez, knocky, Drinkwater and James to name a few.

I will be more than happy with a relegation battle all season, as long as we stay up in the end!

I dreamt of a last minute winner away at Forest to get us into the play offs and end their season and now I dreaming of a last minute winner away at Stoke to send them down.

The carnage in the away end if that happens.

I think we can finish 14th/15th when I watch Premier League teams I don't see any difference between teams like a Newcastle who are in the top 10 of the Premier League compared to us. Need a few additions but I'm sure we can do well. I'd take anywhere above 18th place to be fair though.

They bought Rodriguez off Burnley when they went up. And could anyone really see Rickie Lambert, who had only played for Bristol Rovers, Rochdale, Stockport and Macclesfield being such a success in the premiership and playing for England. Inwouldnsay we have more flair players and more solid well established players than they did originally. We also have more points than them already when they went up. We just need to strengthen in a similar fashion to what they did and we'll alright.

Maybe i'm being pessimistic and obviously I would prefer you to be right. Lambert always looked so clinical though, very good technically for a big man, I do remember thinking he will make the step up as with the others mentioned (fair point on Rodriguez). They also had players like Do Prado, Connoly even Hammond, that looked as though they were limited to championship football. I guess it's being able to recognise who can and can't make that step up, they seemed to do that very well and have made some really good signings recently in Lovren, Wanyama and Davis. I guess if we make similar positive signings then it wouldn't be out of our reach, i'd still be happy with 17th, anything higher would be a huge bonus!

One thing I would love us to do similarly to them would be to pull through a few youth team players of prem quality, that would be amazing!

13th-17th, if we finish higher then fair play the step up is going to be a challenge and it also depends on fixtures early doors.

Put it this way I wouldn't want Norwich City fixtures come the end of the season!

DISCLAIMER: I'm a positive fan and supporter. I've ****ing loved this season and will always hold it dear. NP and the team have, quite simply, been amazing. RDL, Moore, Schlupp, James, Drinky, Vardy, Nugent, Dyer, Knocky and Mahrez all look good enough to make the step up.

But I think we've got to realise that there's a huge gulf between the two divisions. In the Championship most teams have 0-3 decent and dangerous players. In the PL that's more like 6-11. Everyone is faster, stronger, fitter, more clinical.

I think it's rose tinted spectacles that are making people think that Knocky, Mahrez, Vardy and Nugent will be running rings round the likes of Agger, Terry and Cahill. And that Morgan/Moore/Was will be rocks against RVP/Rooney/Suarez/Sturridge etc.

I think we'll survive, but we're not going to be some sort of shockingly good Southampton like team and finish top half or better.

Congratulations and welcome back to Leicester fans from an MCFC fan (of 33 years standing).

Don't know why - always had a soft spot for Leicester - and went to Filbert Street many times.

Great club, great fans - you made plenty of noise and stayed to the end when we played you over there in Dec. You always have a good away following too. I have always found yours a friendly club and fans (never encountered The Baby Squad though!). It will be good to have a proper club with proper support back in the Premier League - to counter balance the plastics that latch onto the $ky 4.

I have had some great days out in Leicester...2011 when there was the red n black scarves and Neil Young (scorer of the winning goal in the 1969 FA Cup FInal to those too young!) tribute. Exciting game (we nearly chucked it away), Cracking atmosphere and we got you back home where we triumphed on our way to our first trophy in 35 years.

My first trip to Leicester was 86/87 where we sadly lost a relegation dog-mauling (it certainly wasn't a dogfight) 4-0. Everything that could go wrong went wrong....a short Stevey Redmond backpass sticking in the mud..Perry Suckling couldn't catch a bar of soap in Strangeways (or nearby Leicester prison) that day. Alan Smith (later of Arsenal) kept sticking out his gangly legs to score a couple. We knew we were going down after that day even if there was a way to go. We were a poor side. Players like Kevin Langley who was dogshit. Still, despite thar we had a good day out and got nicely oiled on the local brew, Everard's Tiger. Both MCFC and LCFC went down in the end with Villa :-(

I remmeber the following Div 2 season (1-1 draw if I recall rightly - David Pleat your manager?) going into a Leicester chippy and asking for a chip butty (I was trying to be helpful not using the Manchester vernacular "chip barm") and getting tld in noncertain terms "Chip cob"!

It was a tense day out when we eked a vital draw under Kevin Keegan when Dicky fluffed that pen. We stayed up the Foxes went down eventually. Now you'e back and if you check out our Bluemoon-mcfc thread you'll see more than a few of us are pleased for you.

Good luck to Leicester (except v MCFC of course), I think and hope you stay up.

Who do you think will mke the grade in the top flight? Where does Pearson need to strengthen?

Thank you, and I look forward to taking Man. City on again.

7th. Don't think we will but the question was 'where can' and not 'where will'. Like others have said though; I'd take 17th!

Nobody is expecting us to run rings around the top teams.

The fact is that if you have the right attitude you can compete with anyone.

We have better players than Palace for example, but Pulis has them keeping sides like Chelsea out.

A lot will depend on Big Nige and his tactics in those big games. The players we have are good enough to survive.

Of course we are working on the assumption that players like Vardy, DD, Moore, James, Knockaert, Mahrez, Kasper and Schluup can step up a level. But they have done so in the last couple of seasons so we should have faith that they will again.

Hold on..

How can anyone predict this before we see who we're gonna be signing?

Talk about jumping the gun.

Hold on.. 17th, completely random...

lol

12th. Look at the division now.. Of the bottom half you can only say that Fulham and Villa are established prem clubs and the rest have been in the championship recently. If Fulham survive.. Well we've beaten them already and not one of that bottom half scare me. It depends whether we stick with a rigid 442 cos pace alone won't be enough.

8th. Yes 8th. Maybe even higher.

Top 4 is 2000/1 if anyone wants to stick a fiver on it,

Worth a shot really. Stranger things have happened in football.

I think we can avoid relegation with some key signings added to the squad. I believe plenty of the current squad can make the grade at premier league level. I would take 17th place all day long!

One of the main things leicester mustn't do is sign too many new players, you only have to look at QPR and Cardiff most of the squad that brought them up sat in the reserves for the following season, keep the unit the same of course we need a couple of new faces, but I think we should wait until January to do any serious business. Any new club to the premier league must only bring in what they need!

I've just been thinking about this in a different way for a moment.  And by a moment, I mean around 2-3 minutes, so feel free to pick this apart.

What occurred to me is to look at what attributes are required and what attributes we have had in Premier League seasons I can remember.  A list of attributes are as follows.

Motivational manager

Tactical nous/ organisation

Quality Players

Team spirit

Money to spend

Ability to buy the right players.

Stability.

So, the first Premier League relegation I can remember was Brian Little/ Mark McGhee's side in 1995.

We were promoted with a side which lacked quality but had plenty of spirit and organisation.  We added quality with Mark Draper but it was sorely lacking.  Brian Little seemed fairly motivational but left mid-season, obviously effecting stability.  We did not have much money to spend but Little was fairly good at finding players.

To sum up:

Motivational manager  Y

Tactical nous/ organisation  Y

Quality Players  N

Team spirit  Y

Money to spend  N

Ability to buy the right players.  Y

Stability.  N

We finished second bottom this season.

In the O'Neill years we consistently finished in the top half.  We had a remarkably motivational manager who was tactically adept and created organised sides.  He managed to add to some quality already at the club with wise purchases which were methodically scouted beforehand.  We had a great team spirit and over the 4 seasons O'Neill was at the club, we had stability.  The only attribute we lacked was money to spend.

So:

Motivational manager Y

Tactical nous/ organisation Y

Quality Players Y

Team spirit Y

Money to spend N

Ability to buy the right players. Y

Stability. Y

In other words, having most of the above attributes resulted in a successful spell in the top flight.

On to Peter Taylor.

Motivational manager N

Tactical nous/ organisation N

Quality Players Y

Team spirit N

Money to spend Y

Ability to buy the right players. N

Stability. N

After riding the coat-tails of O'Neill, it became clear that the longer Peter Taylor was at the club and the further we got from O'Neill, the worse we got.  His final season resulted in an ignominious bottom place.  This just shows that money to spend is not the most important factor.

So, onto Pearson.

Motivational manager Y

Tactical nous/ organisation Y

Quality Players Y

Team spirit Y

Money to spend Y

Ability to buy the right players. Y

Stability. Y

Therefore, I predict a longer and more productive spell in the top flight than we enjoyed with O'Neill as manager.
