jimmeh Posted 9 April 2014 Posted 9 April 2014 Just wondering if Nigel is contemplating selling now in the prem. I have never been a fan personally. I think he gets away with a lot because he came through the academy. Poor midfielder for me. But a good finisher and good at passing the ball sideways. I reckon King will start all the remaining games and then Nigel will have a look at what he's to do in the summer. Could even loan him out to a championship club?
Rocket-Ron Posted 9 April 2014 Posted 9 April 2014 Thought he was one of the few who put a bit of effort in last night
Dan Posted 9 April 2014 Posted 9 April 2014 King isn't a bad player but it's pretty clear he isn't near to the level of James or Drinkwater. A very honest player with decent technical ability but it's becoming more and more obvious that we simply have better on our books.
Tommy G Posted 9 April 2014 Posted 9 April 2014 He was crap last night and it showed as they dominated midfield from 1st min to 90 min. lets not dress it up

You have two better central midfielders, that's it, nobody better than him than them two. It doesn't highlight the fact you have better on your books because you don't, it highlights the fact that Pearson needs to go out there in the Summer and buy two more central midfielders. A holding/box to box midfielder and an attacking playmaker because more times than not next season, Leicester will go with a 5 man midfield. I honestly think Wes Morgan can turn quicker on the ball than Andy King though. Slow motion.
Soar Fox Posted 9 April 2014 Posted 9 April 2014 To survive in the premiership next season we'll need better than him I'm afraid.
a_k_b Posted 9 April 2014 Posted 9 April 2014 I feel we may end up playing 5 in the midfield next season, so will end up getting more games. He does keep the ball well and is always worth a few goals in a season to be fair to him.
SMX11 Posted 9 April 2014 Posted 9 April 2014 I think last night showed that the likes of King, Konch etc aren't up for the job next year. Yes most people were poor but these are the guys that should be striving to get back into the team. All they really showed is that NP has been right not to pick them.

Don't disagree with that actually but I think as a newly promoted club we're going to do well to keep newcomers happy if they aren't guaranteed a place, especially if they're better than King. Only time will tell though.
C-man Posted 9 April 2014 Posted 9 April 2014 54 goals, 270ish games. Show him some fvcking respect FFS.
jimmeh Posted 9 April 2014 Author Posted 9 April 2014 54 goals, 270ish games. Show him some fvcking respect FFS. All them goals really got us somewhere didn't they ? Would rather have midfielders who are creative and can tackle
C-man Posted 9 April 2014 Posted 9 April 2014 All them goals really got us somewhere didn't they ? Would rather have midfielders who are creative and can tackle Out of League One, to the play-offs twice and now to the Premier League. Yeah, fvcking nowhere.
Les-TA-Jon Posted 9 April 2014 Posted 9 April 2014 Think it's a bit simplistic to say that James and Drinkwater are better than King. They're better for our current system, that is, our attack comes from our forwards, wingers and wingbacks, not central midfield. In the past, we've had a system that has played to King's strengths more, this season we haven't, so he's played less and been less effective.
jimmeh Posted 9 April 2014 Author Posted 9 April 2014 Out of League One, to the play-offs twice and now to the Premier League. Yeah, fvcking nowhere. Right okay and he's been our star player all these years hasn't he. That's why all those other clubs are after him aswell.
Buzzell Posted 9 April 2014 Posted 9 April 2014 King will be a decent back up for us next year. He will still have a job to do for us but he won't be a starter. We will deffinately need to be looking at bringing in a midfielder with PL experience though over the summer.

Said this before but it's hard to tell at the moment, could be very useful but every time he plays in a 4-4-2 he seems to be mediocre.

I agree, I could see us playing with King replacing Nugent for backs against the wall games or periods of games, I've always thought he could look more comfortable at Premier League level than championship, technically he isn't lacking or phased at International level and I think he could do a job of working hard defensively, keeping possession and grabbing breakaway or set piece goals.
Alf Bentley Posted 9 April 2014 Posted 9 April 2014 Seeing the thread title, I'm imagining poor old Kingy sat in the dock of a South African courtroom... "Why did you blast Reeva to eternity, Kingy, you macho brute?!" Said this before but it's hard to tell at the moment, could be very useful but every time he plays in a 4-4-2 he seems to be mediocre. Yes, I could see him performing better in a 3-man centre midfield, where his excellent reading of the game could come to the fore and he'd have more freedom to make late runs into the box and would be less tied to a defensive formation. Whether a DD-Matty-Kingy combination would work at that level I'm not sure....but I imagine that we're likely to buy at least 1 central midfielder, anyway.
beemeroo Posted 9 April 2014 Posted 9 April 2014 All this 5 man midfield talk begs the question. Would you play any of our strikers as a lone man in the prem?

MattyFromLE Posted 9 April 2014 Posted 9 April 2014 I don't think Drinkwater and King is as effective as Drinkwater and James. James offers a lot more in picking up scraps, think James is also a little stronger. Kingy is a good player, will be important next season.
Fox Ulike Posted 9 April 2014 Posted 9 April 2014 All them goals really got us somewhere didn't they ? Would rather have midfielders who are creative and can tackle This is probably the stupidest thing ever written on the internet.
Russell sprout Posted 9 April 2014 Posted 9 April 2014 I think part of pearsons recent rotating of the squad had something to do with wether or not he will offer contracts or sell players not upto scratch, For me Andy kings playoff chasing team player
Fox92 Posted 9 April 2014 Posted 9 April 2014 He wasn't strong enough yesterday. Not doubting he's a good footballer, still think he's one of the best finishers at the club, but certain players do seem to overrun/be stronger than him which is a worry going into the top flight.
