Most demoralising and upsetting defeats ever

1-0 vs Hull in the Pleat days and most games with Tayloe as boss, some of those away games under him we didn't even have an attempt on goal including the warm ups also getting stuffed by Ipswich 4-1 where it seemed about -20 on New years day.

If that was the game at Portman Rd try 6 1 Stevenson scored for us after that humiliation.

No think Mcgee was boss Jamie lawrence played, think the highlight of the day was coming back and buying a maverick bar

Watford was painful as was Cardiff.

But think it was in the Megson or Holloway reign, we lost to Sheffield Wednesday at home by like 1-3 or 1-4, that defeat was sickening, never seen us play so shit.

Wolves (a): led 3-0, lost 4-3.

Ch’ton (h): led 1-0, drew 1-1.

Everton (a): led 2-1, lost 3-2.

N’castle (h): led 1-0, drew 1-1.

Bolton (a): led 1-0, drew 2-2.

Boro (a): led 3-1, drew 3-3.

Bolton (h): led 1-0, drew 1-1.

Spurs (a): led 4-3, drew 4-4.

Add also that season Man City home. We got a penalty crucial final minutes Dickov to take. Dickov steps up. james saves a poor penalty. Still think he missed on purpose. Man City could have gone down that season. Crucial game they stole the win that day. That was a season of nearly maybe. If only we could have held onto leads?

Swindon 4-3 for me.  Its a bit too much to go 3-0 down and think the world is caving in, to them have them pull it back to 3-3 and then lose it again.  Horrible, horrible day!

I remember looking forward to a promotion celebration against a south coast club, think it was Brighton at the KP. We were already promoted and some of the players had spent a weekend on the lash already celebrating a championship that wasn't actually won. It was like we were still in the holloway era and we were really shit. Really shit. We lost 4-1. I remember it like it was yesterday.

Only with hindsight.

But other than Harlow most if not all defeats mentioned are by teams in the same league that is not surprising.

But a prem loss to a div 1 side and then the knock on effect.

Not only did it destroy our season it nearly destroyed our club.

That's what I was trying to get at I think. When we lost to Wycombe we were 4th in the PL and looking at a possible European finish, though I don't think all the top 4 went into the CL back then. We appeared to have other fish to fry at the time. It was only a year or 2 later that one could look back and appreciate quite what a disaster it had been.

Obviously the Wolves and Boro games in 03/04 were just devastating.

I felt deflated after losing to 3-2 Chelsea in 01/02 after we outplayed them the entire match.

Losing to Atletico in 97 in that fashion was gutting.

After Watford last year I just sat in silence in the pub for about ten minutes trying to comprehend what had just happened. That was painful.

When we lost 1-3 at home to Sheffield Wednesday which pretty much confirmed our relegation.

Being 3-0 up at Wolves, the rest is history. I genuinely haven't been to Molinuex since.

Newcastle away in the premier league must be 15 years ago??, remember it as a little kid, 3-1 up then shearer popped in with a hatrick

This. lol I was sat in a pub with a couple of toon fans being very loud, banterous and a little arrogant.... I was fairly quiet after Shearer's 3 minute hat-trick. They gave me a tough time afterwards - deservedly.

I did get my revenge though a couple of years later on the same two individuals, in the same pub and the same fixture.......

Ten minutes before the game started I told them that Bobby Robson had passed away in the night - sad news indeed and magically he didn't come out of the tunnel for some reason until 10 minutes into the game. They had sat there really angry that there had been no commemorative montage shown before the game and no tribute of silence. I can't remember even who won the game but they were buying me pints and laughing about it by half time.

Far from it, results were still in our own hands after that, we only had to win the game to be safe.

Losing 5-0 at home to villa last time we were in the PL john Gregory was their manager

Pretty sure O'Leary was manager. Wasn't that the game an idiot ran onto the pitch and confronted Ian Walker?

The thing that sticks in my mind about that game was all the free magazines that were launched in the direction of the pitch from the kop lol
