Most demoralising and upsetting defeats ever

Games I have been to that destroyed me at the time..

Wimbledon at home, think Leicester lost 2-0 on a Super Sunday, must of been around 1997.

Man United at home, lost 6-2 in 1999. Before the game I remember thinking Leicester are only like 8 points behind in the League.. Crazy thoughts but losing 6-2 destroyed me.

Wycombe at home, say no more.

Bolton at home, first game of the season, their first game in the Premier League, lost 5-0.

Fulham away, FA Cup Replay, travelled down with 13 mates, first big away game without family and felt robbed losing in the last minute. Wayne Routledge willy puller.

Chelsea away, League Cup, lost 4-3, proper shower of shit Leicester side, Darren Kenton in the holding role. lol Shevchenko hat-trick. Robbed.

Sheffield Wednesday at home, been pretty much every game that year, knew a win would of kept Leicester up, to play so badly and to see the Wednesday fans so happy made me sick.

Stoke away, confirmed relegation, thought Leicester played well that day in a 0-0, hit the bar, Carlo Nash made a worldie and the Stoke fans were wankers. Typical Stoke.

Oh and throw Sheffield United away into that list.

Lost 3-0. 3-0 at HT, James Beattie hat-trick and down to 10 men.

0-0 in the second half, shoes off if you love Leicester and that clown Holloway took his boot off. Shit day.

Swindon Play Off Final, Tottenham League Cup Final, Wycombe in the FA Cup

Stoke away in 2008 - a draw which felt worse than a defeat for obvious reasons, never felt so low after a City game - although Watford in the play offs wasn't far off

I've said it before and I'll say it again - Wycombe FA Cup, purely for the knock-on effects it had for our club.

All the other defeats (Watford last year, Sheff Wed 2008, Cardiff playoffs, one time-thrashings by Newcastle etc) were just one-off heartbreaks we could have recovered from - and have.

The Wycombe match was something else entirely. A shocking loss in a home QF by a team that had just beaten Liverpool and Chelsea, aided by a striker that had been found using Ceefax...but it was much, much more than just that.

It set or helped aid a motion of events that almost led to the death of our club, and led to a decline we've only just been able to reverse - you could even say that it led indirectly to the two playoff heartbreaks and the Sheff Wed debacle. Perhaps I'm being overdramatic here, but I'd say it was the major contributing factor to the 13 years we've had in (relative) wilderness since - certainly from the standpoint of having to rebuild financially.

I honestly think no other defeat comes close in terms of far-reaching upsetting events for LCFC.

4-3 to Swindon in the play-off final and 1-0 to Spurs in the league cup final with them scoring in the last minute of extra time and then trying to get back to the train station without taking a kicking from all the spurs fans coming out of the pubs around the ground.

Exactly the same two matches for me.

I will add on the Bolton 5-0 home drubbing, and the Villa 5-0 home shocker. Remembered being showered with a load of programs or something that day in the kop. The fans went fooking mental. Understandably so too.

Wycombe in the Cup and Wednesday at home in '08 are the two stand out ones for me. For different reasons they signified the lowest points of the lowest spell we've had in living memory.

Edited to say: ...that's now over! WE ARE GOING UP SAY WE ARE GOING UP!

Watford was painful as was Cardiff.

But think it was in the Megson or Holloway reign, we lost to Sheffield Wednesday at home by like 1-3 or 1-4, that defeat was sickening, never seen us play so shit.

Agree, if we'd have won that game, we were pretty much safe from relegation. We were appalling. After that game was the first timei actually thought we may be relegated to league one.

The league cup final defeat to spurs was bad for me.

Another one was the cup loss to Burton Albion. It was my daughters first ever game (she was 5) i believe it was 4-2 in the end. Felt gutted she didnt experience a win but she came out the ground shouting 'that was amazing'. Obviously didnt fully understand that we lost and got some right dodgy stares from grumbling foxes lol

But the play offs are just cruel. That Kermogant penalty and those last few seconds against Watford are both on par as the worst for me

I was still about a year or two away to go to games back then, but from what I heard, the 5-0 defeat at home to Bolton in 2001/2002 must've been pretty hard to swallow.

From personal observation, the 4-3 loss away at Wolves was a real oddity (although not the first time we threw a lead away that carelessly and in such fashion).

That game made us a national (and possibly even international) laughing stock for quite a while.

It's Watford for me. Everything about that whole situation was just absolutely horrific and I just couldn't understand why we had to lose in literally the most painful way.

With regards to that Pompey game I was in Canada and quickly checked my phone (no wifi so data charges were going to rape me) I thought it said 0 - 1 and was pleased so closed the app. Something in my subconscious made me double check and £8 later it's safe to say I was no longer pleased.

The Wycombe home defeat was demoralising.

Loads of others in behind 4-3's at Wolves and Newcastle, Pompey 6-1, Forest 5-1.

The 0-3 v Millwall under Sven was among the worst I'd felt, reality had set in that we had not only spunked 80 million on players who didn't care, but also the fact they were absolutely shit as well.

Am I right in saying Hume (could of been someone else) missed a penalty in that Sheffield Wednesday game to make it 2-2?

They all wore orange n'all that day.

That was horrible and embarrassing. Pearson was coming in for stick already and I really did leave that worried that we were about to rip it all up again.

I can never understand why Leicester as a club seem to be on the end of the cruellest possible scenario so often. It's actually incredible how often it happens.

Then again we got our own back to an extent with Knockaert last year.

Bristol City at home as well. They were absolutely woeful and they beat us comfortably. That was as bad as Barnsley for me as it was the realisation that we'd wasted a hell of a lot of money - didn't bother me that it was only 3 games in.

Correct. Can even remember my Dad telling me the week before at Barnsley (where we won) he was confident we'd win at Barnsley then lose to Sheff Weds after going ahead. Freaky.

Am i right in remembering that bristol city game was when maynard made st ledger look stupid with his mistake leading to a goal. Was at that game with my dad going crazy we were awful

The FA cup game after we beat Spurs at home to Southampton.

Thinking we could go all the way and win it after beating Spurs only to lose 1-0 to a last minute goal.

Watford Last season obviously, probably the most depressed I have been after a football match.

Cardiff Play off game also, after fighting back to 3-1.

They're obviously solely for the result.

Most times I have came out of a game feeling shit is more to do with our lacklustre efforts in the stands. I've lost count of the amount of games we've lost but because our fans have been decent or me and our group of mates have had a decent day on the piss it's felt half as bad.

Just realised I was sober for those 3 games I've mentioned lol That explains it then!

Correct.

Three games in and the promotion dream felt over already for me personally. You could tell we'd gone backwards from the previous season.

I thoroughly hated that season. It was absolutely embarrassing how many times we lost to utter, utter crap.

Watford last season was the most painful. But I watched it on TV.

Live games, I was at Newcastle as they beat us 7-1. I remember the whole ground singing the Steve Walsh song when he scored.

Another horror show on Tyneside was the year we lost 5-4 when we were 4-2 up with 10 mins left. I had the joy of being at that too.

Swindon at wembley was one of the only times I can remember crying ( yes, I did cry at wembley ).

The brighton match on Tuesday? That was absolutely nothing compared to the real despairing defeats we have had over the years. Brighton deserved it. I've seen plenty of games where we massacred teams and lost. Far more painful.

I also think Barnsley away was bad when we got relegated to league 1.

FA Cup semi against Liverpool in 74....first time I'd seen us lose a big game

FA Cup against Arsenal in 75...absolutely killed them in the first replay, then somehow lost the second

2-6 against Birmingham in 76....watching that smug git Kenny Burns getting a hatrick

FA Cup against Harlow in 80....the stuff of nightmares

FA Cup against Exeter in 81...more nightmares

FA Cup semi against Spurs in 82....second time I'd seen us lose a big game plus a ridiculous own goal.

0-4 at home to Notts County in 83...first game of the season

4-5 to Newcastle in 90....chucked away a comfortable lead late on

Playoff final against Swindon in 93...third time I'd seen us lose a big game, and in a truly heart breaking manner

0-5 at home to Bolton in '01, quickly followed by 0-4 away at Arsenal

3-3 against Borough in '04....felt worse than a defeat

Makes me shudder looking at this list
