Football Manager 2015

Always thought it would be neat if the regular contributors to this thread all got together, and we all picked the same team randomly, and did a season, posted thoughts, screenshots of how we managed whatever team it was for that season, and compared how we went about managing them, our tactics, and ultimately how successful we were with them at the end of the season.

Maybe had a period of say a month to finish the season to give everyone lots of time to play the games, or even longer if needed so it fit around work or whatever, and just saw how different we saw things, and which approaches seemed to be most successful.

Maybe a lower team so it was difficult to get players in, the scouting had to be more thorough etc, gambles on players had to be taken etc

It's a shame online games are such hard work and time consuming, I'd love it if it was practical to get us all on one league.

I mean, Dan would get relegated behind Ozwin and DB11 would quit when he realised the in game editor had been disabled, there'd be a furious bidding war as an entire country's football clubs approached Youri Tielemans, Balanta, Romero and Fierro but, yknow, besides that it'd be great.

I'm pretty methodical but even I think that's mad. Does mum and dad only give you half hour a night after homework, before bed?

You're looking like a strong candidate for shen and I to pass the torch to but you're going to have to do better than that.

My missus wasn't exactly turned on when I showed her I'd played ninety days of football manager (literally like 2200+ hours) on steam alone (so the last four years and I didn't own 2014.)

I'm genuinely not proud.

A month!? I'm only in 2017 on a save I've played since the beta

Well, i was just using any old number, we can agree on a length of time to complete the season put it that way

I start and give up a new save about every 2 weeks and usually play on full match whilst continually looking for cheap regens

Is the most hipster way of playing the game I've ever heard.

I'd actually be up for doing that with everyone picking the same team. I'd have a shocker though I've no doubt.

If a season takes me over a fortnight I'm disappointed in myself.

can't post the link here (as games sites are blocked at work) but SI have released a version of Football Manager Classic on iOS and Android (only high end tablets are supported).

They've released Football Manager Handheld every year but I only played one version and it was too basic for me, so I never bothered.

I think I will wait to see the reviews on this because if the iPad needs to be plugged in to properly play, or risk the battery dying very quickly, it just won't be worth it

I'd be up for a starting with the same team.

I'm currently playing with Bournemouth.

4-1-4-1 formation, but I'm varying the roles depending on if I'm at home or away.

Currently 3rd in the table with about 10 games left.

Lost 4-2 to Arsenal in the FA Cup quarter final.

My aim is to build a squad using only free transfers, loans & the youth team.

6-1 victory over City in the Champions League Final, I'll take that! Completed the treble in 2018, included a 21 match winning streak in the league.

If we did all pick the same team what kind of side would you fancy? I'd be well up for it although don't make it someone in the fifth tier or someone like that. It's plain dull.

I was thinking maybe a championship/league 1 sort of team in England.

Somewhere that you know the players, roughly, but your team is such that you cant expect to dominate the opposition in every game, so you have to show tactical flexibility in your setups and player instructions.

Also, youll have to be transfer market savvy as youll have a tiny budget and will need to play the loan market well, and really research out your transfer targets before they come to you. And youll have to gamble on a few, rather than them being the finished article.

Maybe we should just throw names into a hat and make a totally random draw, depending on the country we choose but EXCLUDING anyone below say the 3rd tier of that country

AC/Inter?

Already did those with my mate. I was Inter. To say it was a disaster would be putting it kindly. I don't think I even dare post some of my results up.

I was actually thinking Leeds earlier although there's literally no way I'd not be managing Parma by December.

Anyone ever had a proper game outside of Europe? I wouldn't consider 10 games of Columbus Crew ended due to the MLS being insufferable a proper game myself but hey ho.

How does everyone feel about Leeds then?

  • Tough financial predicament, means that bringing in players wont be easy. Wheeling and dealing required, emphasis on frees and loans
  • A reasonable team, but quite a lot of youth players which will need careful management
  • A country where we can quickly identify players who we want to target. Getting them might be another story
  • Expectations wont be too high (or id hope they wouldnt)
  • In an unpredictable and open league where everyone can beat everyone

Its a good suggestion. Initially i had someone in mind like maybe Walsall but the club is too small and it would be a long term project really. Championship would be better.

Rotherham?

  • Expected to struggle. Keeping them  up would be a big achievement
  • Having to be flexible in approach to tactics
  • Many derby games
  • A squad of players we are vaguely familiar with, but will need to investigate to see where to strengthen
