Bettsj2 Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 We'll stay up without signing anyone so additions will just heighten our position. Can see us doing really well next season.
dmayne7 Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 Albrighton and Jones, if that's the best we can do then it's a short stay in the Premiership. Albrightons is shocking and as for Jones? We just offloaded PNEs best former player and now we are in for Jones, runs around a lot but he couldn't pass wind. Good to see you back pal. We need some sense around here. Letting a top class defender in Sean go was a huge mistake and Jones and Albrighton are just awful. Who do you reckon will be the manager to replace Pearson when he gets sacked at Christmas? :nuge:
Babylon Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 I don't think anyone's missing the point. Hull are a good example. When they were signing Tom Huddlestone, that was a signing that made me stop and think they really mean business. I'm actually not a big fan of his (I think he's too slow), but for the likes of Hull to be getting such a reputable Premiership player was a coup. Then they did the same again with Jelavic and Long. Again, both players who clearly improve what they had at the club. Cardiff did the same with Caulker. Yes, they've gone down but I suggest that's because they signed some rubbish too. So just because we are Leicester it doesnt mean we have to ONLY sign those players who are being released. They will compliment our squad nicely, but I also want to see us put out some statement of intent, spend some money and make a couple or three signings that will be construed as really strong additions and hopefully kick us on to the next level. Finally, these guys don't have to be 'big time Charlies'. Huddlestone has never come across like that, nor Long, nor Caulker. They are simply all players that are good at what they do and offer real quality. Thanks not sure what any of that has to do with what I or the OP said.
Babylon Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 Read what I'm saying mate. I have no objection to some 'average' players. . We need them. I agree, team-spirit, work-ethic will be crucial. But I'd like to see a couple of players who were gonna get the juices flowing, to coin a phrase. Wouldn't you? I remember when O'Neill signed Collymore. Yes, albeit for a very short-time, but that excited. Same when we got Cottee.. albeit an ageing version. It would be nice and make pootling down to the first home game that bit more exciting. I seem to remember you going on about this kind of player last summer and we did alright without them. It's about picking players that form a winning team, not about pleasing you or me with names. I got excited about some of Svens signings, overpaid, overrated wank mostly.

A number of the signings Sven made, I didn't get excited over. Beckford for instance. Quite the opposite. Let me make it clear. I'm NOT advocating a side full of prima donnas. Hell no. And if you recollect, I was mostly suggesting a couple of players of quality not last season, but the previous one. I believe I said a couple of older heads to bring through the kids (or words to that effect). Actually, we did need them as the season panned out. I'm sold by what Pearson has done but, we are now Premiership. Rather than filling ourselves up with 'average', lets also now get a couple in who will excite and demonstrate clear and obvious Premiership quality. It would be great to see AND could make a big difference.

As I have said already it was June 2013 you were still going on about marquee signings. And I will repeat, none of this has sod all to do with mine or the OP's posts.

Babylon Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 That is the best thing you have ever said Col. Shame it has **** all to do with anything.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 So, in summary, let's sign some good players. Splendid.

Babylon Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 I apologise again. I forget I had to ask you before I posted anything in case it didn't go along with your flow. How about just wrap your head around the point others are making before taking it off in another direction.

I was replying to your post in the way I read it. I apologise if I lost the flow. Chill man and stop taking it so seriously!
Tom's Pasta Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 Col City vs Babylon. This is like the Ali vs Frazier of FT

Guest Col city fan Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 I wouldn't mess with Babs Col..He has a picture of Hannibal Lecter which means he may eat you!! .. with fava beans and a nice Chianti? To be fair, Babs does like to 'keep me in check' or summat like that. He's a top bloke. One of the best on here IMO.

Filbert's Friend Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 Col City vs Babylon. This is like the Ali vs Frazier of FT Cue a montage of them both training and sweating, with someone squeezing a water bottle into their mouth, while they type furiously - Eye of the Tiger blaring in the background.

Pah.. I've had bigger things in my eye..etc... Can I come out to the tune of 'simply the best', with a couple of birds on each arm?

I think it'd go the full 12 rounds, proper pay per view clash. Babs with the quick jabs to the body whereas Col's style is more patient waiting for the big money shot

I've just thought of my nickname though.. the Podge from Parva.
Number 6 Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 I suggest that Pulis was their marquee signing. Absolutely but they did have olly in charge before and Nige is a damn sight better than him. Do you believe a marquee signing is required for us to stay up next season?
