Captain... Posted 22 May 2014 Posted 22 May 2014 Villa fans seem to think we are offering him £35k a week, i guess this could be true as theres no transfer fee involved. It could be a deal worth up to £35k a week, with signing on fees, goal/appearance/staying up bonuses and everything else, whilst having a basic wage of £25k, either way I trust NP and co to not pay over the odds and sort out an appropriate deal, as long as it has a substantial relegation clause in it I will be happy. Although I am surprised by this, not the sort of player I thought NP would go for, 24 years old and he seems to have lost his way a little, of course he could find a new lease of life playing for City, but he could have a bad start, and get the fans on his back, especially if he is seen as our "marquee sigining". More of a risk than I thought NP would go for, but then again he is on a free and there have never been any question marks over his attitude. In NP I trust.
Captain... Posted 22 May 2014 Posted 22 May 2014 If you look into it, they scored those eight goals in only four games - against Fulham, West Brom, Cardiff and Sunderland. So you can look at it either way. Without those goals, they would have gone down. But there were 10/12 games against anyone decent in which neither of them scored. I think people are influenced by MOTD a lot and my recollection of those games is MOTD waxing lyrical about Long and Jelavic after the Cardiff and Fulham games. Again, the two worst sides in the division but games they had to win. It is going to be a culture shock for some of our fans when suddenly you often only need a ten-goal striker to be successful rather than demanding that someone scores twenty, and that you can spend £15million odd on a couple of strikers and between them they only score in a quarter of the games they play, and that's still a success. The difference is that they suddenly had an attacking threat, which whilst might not have been fruitful in terms of goals scored, it would make teams approach them differently, start looking at how to defend against Long and Jelavic, thus creating more space for others joining the attack, it is not just about the goals they scored, or didn't. Although looking at the stats it may have had the opposite effect, 22 goals in the first 19 games, 16 goals in the second 19 games, so maybe having 2 "recognised" strikers meant that all attacks went through them, and they were easier to defend against. When you have Fryatt and Sagbo upfront, your midfield know they have to help out and contribute, whereas they might have sat back expecting Long Jelavic to do all the work. It's a funny old game...

Who knows - basically, you can argue there isn't enough evidence yet that they have been good signings for the amount they spent on them. Anyone would have been a greater goal threat than Sagbo (2 goals in 20 league games prior to the end of the January transfer window) and Danny Graham (one goal in 17 league games).
st albans fox Posted 22 May 2014 Posted 22 May 2014 My only comment on albrighton is that whenever i have seen him on the box, he has always looked like he was giving his all, even when villa were playing sh*t. a good attitude is going to be vital for players coming into the squad. i'm ok with this signing (if it happens).

WhispyWizard Posted 23 May 2014 Posted 23 May 2014 I thought u meant 2/3 in the time frame. It wouldn't surprise me if Albrighton signed before the end of May as well, seems to be floating around the media quite alot more than just a rumor.

A spending splurge of ZERO pound notes. "Big Spending Leicester" is here to stay, a bit like us being "good at set pieces". Had a medical whilst on holiday, impressive. Made him do 50 lengths and race Apollo Creed up the beach.
VLC86 Posted 23 May 2014 Posted 23 May 2014 Had a medical whilst on holiday, impressive. Very much so, who would have thought they have hospitals abroad?
