"bang average Premiership players" is exactly what we need if we want a bang average mid-table finish next season.

Exactly, a point lots of people seem to miss.

he sounds a money grabber if he rejected the contract, and refusing to join West Brom (if true)

His agent will drum up business for him and he'll go to whoever pays him the most ££££££££

You sound like you're surprised there? Apart from the fact Villa are like a sinking ship currently and WBA couldnt repeat what they achieved previously, players always go for more money

I think this will be a good signing.

He looked brilliant when he first burst onto the scene. I have faith that Nige will bring out the best in him and we can sort his fitness out.

Does he make our starting 11? Id bet he will be battling Knockaert for the place rather than Mahrez. If he is the last wide man we sign this off season then i think we are gonna need a rapid striker to keep up our direct style.

I don't think it will be a case of 'making' the team this year. This season we've dominated Championship teams left right and centre, rarely losing and therefore having the luxury of sending the same team out every game. Next season we will most likely lose at lot more and we will be coming up against teams that we will simply be unable to outplay. For these two reasons I see us using the whole squad, and for that reason the only signings I see Pearson making are either for the development squad or those with genuine quality and who can come in to the team and make an impact, and players who can adapt to a change in tactics (e.g. Billy Jones).

Definitely agree with your first point. A very tidy player and with the progress Vardy and Knocky have made I have no doubt our backroom team can get him back to full fitness. If we can get him and Jones (if he is out of contract) we've made two very good signings with not only quality but experience as well. Sign a couple of gems from abroad and we could put a good bid not only for survival but maybe a 11-13th place finish.

I think the reason he refused to join West Brom on loan was because at the time he didn't want to join a rival. Also the other reason why he wanted more money was because players like Gabby Agbonlahor were on wages of £60k a week, yet Agbonlahor only performs three games a season.

Also some say it has something to do with Darren Bent returning to Villa... Marc like others are good friends with Chris Herd and like Marc not to keen on the idea of him returning.

I often wonder how you bring yourself to get out of bed every morning, are so negative in everything you do, or is it just to annoy us?

No need to be so rude. It is my opinion it's not meant to annoy anyone . And if you read other posters on here there are quite a few asking the same questions . Anyway what's with the " us " some sort of clique ?

us = non negative people

or positive as it's more commonly known

Ah a clique then ? ( though obviously a positive one )  As I said it was just an opinion  it was not meant to be negative  just a cautious observation. Sorry if I upset anyone  .

Exactly, a point lots of people seem to miss.

I don't think anyone's missing the point.

Hull are a good example. When they were signing Tom Huddlestone, that was a signing that made me stop and think they really mean business. I'm actually not a big fan of his (I think he's too slow), but for the likes of Hull to be getting such a reputable Premiership player was a coup. Then they did the same again with Jelavic and Long. Again, both players who clearly improve what they had at the club.

Cardiff did the same with Caulker. Yes, they've gone down but I suggest that's because they signed some rubbish too.

So just because we are Leicester it doesnt mean we have to ONLY sign those players who are being released. They will compliment our squad nicely, but I also want to see us put out some statement of intent, spend some money and make a couple or three signings that will be construed as really strong additions and hopefully kick us on to the next level.

Finally, these guys don't have to be 'big time Charlies'. Huddlestone has never come across like that, nor Long, nor Caulker. They are simply all players that are good at what they do and offer real quality.

Aston Villa fans think he is a cracking player. Read this.

We keep on the books

Nzog

Tonev

Luna

Hutton

Stevens

Sylla

Bowery

and release again a player that is so obviously going to make the grade , same as Cahill to another team that will push us in a relegation fight next season . Watch n see Marc have a great couple of seasons @ Leicester get an England call up be bought by a top 6 club , and become another great player Villa let slip away .

Honestly Learner are you trying to destroy this club , is that your final goal to absolutely rip the heart n soul from the club before you become a ****in memory . Cannot even comprehend the thought process behind this decision while keeping the 7 piles of complete , and utter shit listed above on the books . What next then rename the club , re-badge the shirts , change the team colors to red white , and ****in blue , call us the Villa Stars n Stripes . Really pissed off now , really want Learner gone sooner rather than later ,and IF Lambert sanctioned this then he deserves to be bastard sacked NOW

Albrighton and Jones, if that's the best we can do then it's a short stay in the Premiership.

Albrightons is shocking and as for Jones? We just offloaded PNEs best former player and now we are in for Jones, runs around a lot but he couldn't pass wind.

For me though, Col, Hull's signings, though they were very good, still come under the "bang average" name. I think the difference here is that these players, Huddlestone, Long and Jelavic, are established Premier League players and carry a reputation having performed well at that level for their previous clubs.

You've said it yourself, when they signed Huddlestone it made you take notice. As it did me. But because Albrighton doesn't have the reputation of a Huddlestone or a Long then he's a "bang average player".

Now there's nothing wron pg with average. I've said before, team ethic and togetherness/morale is just as important. We've seen 'average' players perform well in the Prem, see Charlie Adam in recent years, and even during our MON era, surely the likes of Izzet and Lennon were classed as 'average' by other fans.

We are not Chelsea or Manchester City. Let them spend the ridiculous to get the so called 'class' players, because I'm quite happy with 'average'. Nigel isn't an idiot, some of his signings are very coy, and I'd expect him to repeat that now we are at the top level. I'm not saying don't go out and get a (right) player for £4million, but that doesn't always work. See Cardiff. And yeah I do rate Caulker as well.

Read what I'm saying mate. I have no objection to some 'average' players. . We need them. I agree, team-spirit, work-ethic will be crucial.

But I'd like to see a couple of players who were gonna get the juices flowing, to coin a phrase. Wouldn't you? I remember when O'Neill signed Collymore. Yes, albeit for a very short-time, but that excited. Same when we got Cottee.. albeit an ageing version.

It would be nice and make pootling down to the first home game that bit more exciting.

Yeah I understand what you mean, I do agree. I was making the point in reference to someone who said 'bang average' as well, just put it all in one post.

Agree, although the likes of Mahrez, Drinkwater & De Laet never got my juices flowing when announced, but certainly do now

De Laet running into the box from the overlap is often unplayable, Drinkwater's domination in opponent's half and Mahrez looks to have a bit of everything in his locker, with workrate to match his skill.

However I do think we need a 'Premier League player' of the Huddlestone/Jelavic/Long/Caulker type... without resorting to Sven's just sign him if he's a 'name' approach

I quite like the idea that everyone will see the signings we make in the summer and think "Leicester will struggle" before we go on to stay up comfortably. That would satisfy me much more than marquee signings that make people take note.
