foxoffderby Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 Col you normally make valid points and your a respected FT poster. But on this occasion I think your wrong about MA and just trying to string everybody along. IF we sign MA I think you'll find him to be a quality addition to the squad. I think NP is being very prudent with his potential signings with MA and Hamer all frees. I think we will make a couple of marque signings and spend big but its about getting value for money in the first season in the Prem. I read a biography on MON a few months ago and when given a budget to spend he would make sure he spent less than he was given. He basically treated the money as if it was his own. I think NP is very similar to MON in that respect and has been proven with his signings both in the Championship and his time in League 1 as well as at Hull.

Dan Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 I'm not being funny but how much exactly have Hull improved since signing Long & Jelavic?
Babylon Posted 22 May 2014 Posted 22 May 2014 I'm not being funny but how much exactly have Hull improved since signing Long & Jelavic? They probably didn't points wise, but it's hard to judge as quite a few promoted teams pick up points early and then tail off.A quick look and they got 4 goals each in 15/16 games. Not sure how that stacks up in the prem, but it doesn't seem too bad.
Guest Col city fan Posted 22 May 2014 Posted 22 May 2014 Col a respected poster. lol Were you bullied at school 'Finners'? Those that gain glee from belittling sometimes were. Remember, you can get help.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 22 May 2014 Posted 22 May 2014 They probably didn't points wise, but it's hard to judge as quite a few promoted teams pick up points early and then tail off. A quick look and they got 4 goals each in 15/16 games. Not sure how that stacks up in the prem, but it doesn't seem too bad. If you look into it, they scored those eight goals in only four games - against Fulham, West Brom, Cardiff and Sunderland. So you can look at it either way. Without those goals, they would have gone down. But there were 10/12 games against anyone decent in which neither of them scored. I think people are influenced by MOTD a lot and my recollection of those games is MOTD waxing lyrical about Long and Jelavic after the Cardiff and Fulham games. Again, the two worst sides in the division but games they had to win. It is going to be a culture shock for some of our fans when suddenly you often only need a ten-goal striker to be successful rather than demanding that someone scores twenty, and that you can spend £15million odd on a couple of strikers and between them they only score in a quarter of the games they play, and that's still a success.
Guest Col city fan Posted 22 May 2014 Posted 22 May 2014 Absolutely but they did have olly in charge before and Nige is a damn sight better than him. Do you believe a marquee signing is required for us to stay up next season? No mate, I've said what we don't need are many changes. There's a difference between wanting City to do well (of course I do, I'm a life-long fan) and I think signings like Jones and Albrighton would be fine, but I also want to go down to the first game feeling excited at the prospect of seeing class players. I think we deserve that, to be honest, cos we've been out of the Prem for so long. The thought of going to watch Jones and Albrighton doesn't excite. The thought of going to watch say, Luciano Vietto in a City shirt, would do. I'm not saying he'd do well for us.. he might not. But it'd get the juice's flowing a bit wouldn't it. And I don't mean signing any old big names (a la Sven).. but a couple of the right additions, of real quality, would excite.

Brilliant, so Johnny foreigner with exotic name could be utter wank, meaning your "excitement" is rather short lived. But that doesn't matter because you got excited about seeing him play. I want a winning team, how that is made up, or whether I believe the names are exciting doesn't matter. He could be Geoff Smith from the blue square premier, or Jonio Foreinardo from Brazil, what matters is he does the job on the pitch when it matters.

Of course would live someone like Vietto but that would be easy to say in hindsight
tomtom Posted 22 May 2014 Posted 22 May 2014 Been told Albrighton, Upson and Hamer will all sign over today and tomorrow,

WhispyWizard Posted 22 May 2014 Posted 22 May 2014 Villa fans seem to think we are offering him £35k a week, i guess this could be true as theres no transfer fee involved.
Babylon Posted 22 May 2014 Posted 22 May 2014 Villa fans seem to think we are offering him £35k a week, i guess this could be true as theres no transfer fee involved. They are only going off their local Journo... we've already had others telling us our wage cap is 30k. Someone is wrong, so lets presume they all are.
foxoffderby Posted 22 May 2014 Posted 22 May 2014 Yesterdays Mercury also said that the 35k a week offered is way off the mark. I think its more likely to be in the 20-25k bracket

I'd love us to get MA back to his best and make Villa look stupid in the process.

So, following your logic, the longer a team has stayed outside the Premiership, the bigger the star players have to be in order to attract people to the games once said team is back in the top tier? The vast majority of our current squad has proven to be classy enough - so, now you don't want to see them anymore?

I would much rather watch our current crop turn into class players by being given the chance to grow into the Premiership stars many of them have the potential to become. This time next year I want fans of other clubs to talk about Schlupp, Mahrez and Knockaert in the same way that they now talk about Shaw and Lallana.

It's going to be weird but at the end of the day it's the likes of Cardiff and Fulham (well, their equivalents) that we'll need to beat next year to stay up. Given the way we play if one of our players scores 10 we'll be laughing.
