Finnaldo Posted 20 May 2014 Posted 20 May 2014 Officially released. Decent signing especially on a free. Oops, late to the party it appears.
Livid Posted 20 May 2014 Posted 20 May 2014 I think he could do alright for us and we would be good for him. Young, Hungry, with ability, a career stagnated at a club where he's been in and out of favour with numerous managers. Nigel's kind of player, I hope we get him.
PAULCFC Posted 20 May 2014 Posted 20 May 2014 Was listening to radio5 on Saturday morning and they had Pat Murphy on talking about the owner of Villa leaving .He said then"Albrighton is leaving.....probably to Leicester".So i'd take it as a given.
MC Prussian Posted 20 May 2014 Posted 20 May 2014 possibly the worst YouTube highlight reel ever. It's already close to four years old, what did you expect? YouTube was still in its own Stone Age period back then. As for Albrighton, hopefully we can secure his services for three years or so. He's got potential, talent, speed and flair, adds another option going forward and I'd love to see him in a Leicester City shirt. I think we'll rotate quite a bit next season and to do so effectively, you need to have two equally strong options for every position. Enter Albrighton.
PAPA LAZAROU Posted 20 May 2014 Posted 20 May 2014 But why released ? something nor right about this. If he is a good as some would have us believe why did Villa not bother to offer him a new contract. do they know something we don't ? Injury prone or attitude problem ? I would love to know the real reason why.

Lambert09 Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 If he is released can he sign on whenever? Or do we still have to wait until July 1st?
PAPA LAZAROU Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 he wants more money and they're not prepared to pay it because the owner is trying to flog the club. Or they are not prepared to pay it because he's simply not worth it. If he were they would have signed him up and then sold him for a fee. There is a stigma attached to " released " and for good reason.
Manny2802 Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 My nephew told me last night that according to his agent it is 90% done were the only team in for him and he wants to stay in the midlands if possible

Guest Col city fan Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 For me, the club has to get the wage thing absolutely right for reasons of morale. Even on a free, Albrighton is a bang average Premiership player. If he does join and then gets paid, say 35k per week, and Liam Moore/RDL etc are on 20k, then the discrepancy could be an issue. Secondly, City need to be prudent and build-in a relegation wage drop clause. This would give the players the financial incentive of staying up, whilst not crippling the club if we went down. Albrighton has rarely featured for Villa I dont think? He's nothing special from what I've seen of him which, fair play, isn't much.
Dickov22 Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 Mate of mine is a big Villa fan. Says he can't believe they are releasing him. He's been their best player since he came back into the side in Feb. He's quick, works really hard yet sometimes lacks end product. I think he's a perfect replacement for Lloyd if he signs. Gives us a different option to Tony K and Riyad Mahrez on the wings.

Rob1742 Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 Albrighton is a bottom half premiership squad player at best. Great crosser of the ball, tidy player but no real pace and had a few injuries. So it looks like he would be there as support for Mahrez and Anthony only. Wages - we are a much better operation these days, so I don't think for one minute that Terry Robinson would be offering him 35k per week. I would think we would be offering him a signing on fee of his market value, and possibly his Villa salary (£15k a week) or £17.5k to £20k. I suppose he would be a straight swap for Lloyd, but much younger and has premier league experience.

Nigel said he won't allow players to be signed if they "just" want a big pay packet. I think the club is in the right hands. The papers don't know how much money he will be on.
lgfualol Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 He would definitely be a good signing if it was on a free. I really cant imagine him being offered 35k wages, it seems like something we'd offer if we were desperate, and not mid-May.
roblcfc84 Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 I think this is a great signing. We need to be realistic about who we sign in our first season back in the premiership. Tbf as good as they looked last year both knockheart and mahrez have zero PL experience, albrighton has a fair bit. Plus we will need a bigger squad to cope next year and options are a must in all positions. Players like jones and albrighton on a free are great to add depth and competition to the squad. Also wages are less of a problem if there is no transfer fee, as for the other players they are negotiating extensions so let them worry about themselves and not what incoming players negotiate.
Babylon Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 A few stats on Albrighton from last season... Last season he got 4 assists in 9 starts and 10 sub appearances. That's the same as players like Adebayor, Barry, Wilshere, Milner, Routledge, Bony, Lennon, Negrado, Fernandinho, Lampard, Bolasie, Januzaj, Adam... and they all had vastly more game time than he did.He averages 1.8 key passes per game, which is only slightly less than Rooney, Navas, Lallana (1.9). The same as Henderson, johnson, Cabaye and more than Aguero, Sterling, Puncheon and most of the premier league as he was 18th in the Key passes list. His stats for accurate crosses were even better averaging 2.2 accurate crosses per game. Which is better than snodgrass, Nasri, Whittingham, Navas, Ozil, in fact almost more than everyone in the league as he was second in that list.

He's just a solid player.

We should have given him 50k a week
nickelbyfox Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 He'll be quality for us, there's very few negatives. He's just a solid player. Agreed - he will be very good and an upgrade on Dyer should he leave. Also doesn't seem he is that hot a prospect to be demanding huge wages, I would have thought they would be very bonus based. Anyways could do a lot worse and to me always seemed to have the right work ethic on the pitch
TJB-fox Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 Find it bizarre how some fans on here trust their judgment on him over Villa fan's opinions-theyre gutted he's leaving!
Lineker's Left Foot Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 Albrighton is a good player and will be a great addition
XLM Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 Very good player - who knows if he hits form again he's one of those that could easily end up in the England set up. Got a fantastic delivery on him, which we are severely lacking at the moment, and he's got brilliant work rate. On a free transfer there aren't many better realistic options out there.
