DennisNedry Posted 30 October 2014 Posted 30 October 2014 The majority of UK cities are shitholes to be honest.
absolutelegend Posted 31 October 2014 Posted 31 October 2014 The majority of UK cities are shitholes to be honest.I'd go global on that
Vacamion Posted 31 October 2014 Posted 31 October 2014 In honour of our upcoming opponents, I have to nominate West Bromwich town centre. Bleak. Tatty. Godforsaken.
bovril Posted 31 October 2014 Posted 31 October 2014 I'd go global on that Especially since the 1960s.
Finnegan Posted 31 October 2014 Posted 31 October 2014 Swansea is awful. The Gower is stunning. Most south Wales towns are terrible now though, especially any that depended on industry or coal. Aberdare is awful, Port Talbot, Merthyr, all awful. Don't get me started on Newport. Cardiff is mostly nice. Unless you're unlucky enough to know where Splott is.
Alexikokopops Posted 31 October 2014 Posted 31 October 2014 Yeah was gonna say the same thing, donners are rank in UK. Great in the Balkans. Only if you go to the wrong places. I used to live in Harringay (fittingly the place is a shithole) and the sheer choice of Turkish restaurants was amazing. Incredible stuff. That said, I never went for a donner I used to live a 2 minute walk from this place. It's the only thing I miss about Harringay.
Finnegan Posted 31 October 2014 Posted 31 October 2014 Used to live in Bounds Green and had an amazing Turkish restaurant near me. You knew it was classy cos it didn't do burgers.
James. Posted 31 October 2014 Posted 31 October 2014 I went to Walthamstow about a year ago. Admittedly I hadn't slept the night before so wasn't in the best frame of mind but f**king hell it was like something out of a horror movie. All I could see were pound shops and devastation.
Saxondale Posted 3 November 2014 Author Posted 3 November 2014 Swansea is awful. Though The Mumbles is obviously quite nice, if you'd still call that Swansea? Neath - now that's grim.
Saxondale Posted 3 November 2014 Author Posted 3 November 2014 My girlfriend is from the town next door (Bexhill-on-Sea), and that, comparably, is a lovely little seaside town. It's interesting to see how these places can end up so different. But yeah, you're right. Hastings is an absolute dump. Bloody hell, I've only just seen this post - I went out with a girl from Bexhill for a couple of years! Spent a couple of nice summers down there.
isaidno Posted 27 April 2015 Posted 27 April 2015 Runcorn. Stayed in a hotel there at the weekend while visiting Chester. It's a dive. Chavs everywhere in hoodies, onsies and track suits. Saw someone nicking flowers from a roundabout, then a van driver throwing 4 people in the back of his van. There was a wedding at the hotel on Saturday and there was more people outside having a fag than there was at the wedding reception
ScouseFox Posted 27 April 2015 Posted 27 April 2015 pretty much everywhere in the north west that isn't liverpool or manchester is grim as fvck. you're talking warrington, runcorn, widnes, st helens, stockport etc etc etc. grey, grey places.
Voll Blau Posted 27 April 2015 Posted 27 April 2015 Burnley was absolutely ****ing vile. The surrounding countryside is very pleasant though.
BoyJones Posted 27 April 2015 Posted 27 April 2015 Burnley is just stuck in a 1950's time warp, not their fault they are not the market leaders and have no money.
Rob1742 Posted 27 April 2015 Posted 27 April 2015 Leicester - dreadful, but nice little pockets forming. Lowestoft - stopped a few years ago, prior to Ipwich game. Never been anywhere that is so awful in the whole area Luton - dreadful, always has been Weymouth - used to be nice, little decent bit over the bridge, but now a pound shop paradise Coventry - unfortunately bombed, and dreadfully rebuilt. Great Yarmouth - deary, deary me There are a great deal more, more bad than good. The demise of the town centre, along with the huge corporations making them all look the same.
midland_red Posted 28 April 2015 Posted 28 April 2015 Four categoeies of shithouse for me Outer London (Enfield,Edmonton ,Ilford. Walthamstow). Chav towns in the south east, Luton, Chatham especially, but also High Wycombe, Slough,Bracknell) A few medium sized places (Portsmouth, stoke, Hull) Bombed out post industrial places in Lancashire (Blackburn, Accrington, Rochdale, Burnley,Oldham) Most bigger cities have improved in the past few years (including Leicester) partly because of the life a lot of students bring to a place.
midland_red Posted 28 April 2015 Posted 28 April 2015 Should have added Napoli to the list. A truly foul, filthy and dangerous pit which reminded me of Guatemala City or perhaps San Salvador
