Even after the divorce he still would have had around £3m in assets, plus a hefty, albeit reduced, income. You have to be pretty terrible with your money to lose all of that. I have to imagine that if I was a footballer I just simply wouldn't get married. I wouldn't fancy opening myself up to the possibility of having to give half my shit away to someone who was only ever in it for the money.
