Mikey Posted 26 May 2014 Posted 26 May 2014 World Cup fever has well and truly hit me. Haven't felt like this since being 13 in 2006. Remember 2002 really well. Was on holiday when we played Sweden, on the way back somewhere in France we stopped at some sort of pub for the Argentina game. Nigeria was boring as shit but remember watching it before school on my 9th birthday, fully kitted out in my England kit. Remember watching Denmark at American Adventure theme park in one of the big 'motion master' screens. That was class. Brazil game. Everyone got the morning off school didn't they - strange when Owen scored and we were beating Brazil generally thought we'd won it. Can remember where I was for pretty much every game that World Cup from Brazil beating China 5-2 and Germany beating Saudi Arabia 8-0. Loved it. 2006 I remember for the quality of the games. And goals. I literally thought we had a divine right to win this one - bought into the whole 'golden generation' hype as a 13 year old. Remember biking into town to get loads off Rooney face masks and horns to take to the pub to watch it with. Face paint the lot. What a twat. 2010 I'd fell out with the England team by that age. Not qualifying for the 2008 really killed it for me. Never forgave Wayne Bridge for that performance. Don't even know if he was that bad, I just know I hated him from then on. 2010 was my AS level year - pretty much every other lesson was a 'free' and it had the games on in the social, or if I had a lesson when a game was on a few of us would just hop on our mopeds and go home and watch it. My grades were kind of shit that year. The England games were more of an excuse to get pissed out our heads by then whether I had an exam in the next few days or not. Hardly remember any games. But now, this world cup starts on my 21st birthday with the England/Italy game 2 days later I've got that feeling again I had before the 2006 World Cup - the excitement not the expectation. Watching England TV shows on the tele over the past few days, watching videos on Youtube, reading stuff on here, I've slowly started to get stupidly excited for it this year despite myself - and at one point I never thought I'd feel that way about the England team ever again! 2010 I'd fell out of love with the England team
Bert Posted 26 May 2014 Posted 26 May 2014 I think the real hidden beauty of it is because for 9 months of the year we've always got football to talk about. Summer comes and everyone has withdrawals a week after the season is done. This is the perfect way to pass the time leading up to pre-season watching the best knockout tournament in the world. 3 games a day. I'll start getting excited when England's friendlies start.
Soar Fox Posted 26 May 2014 Posted 26 May 2014 Does anyone know where I can buy a retro England shirt from? I remember a couple of years ago I think it was JJB who were selling the 1990 World Cup shirt with 19 on the back. Had a look on the net but can't seem to find one.

Too right, to be honest the warm up friendlies feel like part of the world cup. I've noticed in the last couple of tournaments we seem to have a bit of a struggle in our warm up friendly's.

They do 1974,1982 and 1990 shirts. I got the very shirt you were after the other day. £25, but it was massive so maybe consider a size down.

Saw some on EBay going for around £70, I like the shirt but not for that much.

It's a nice shirt and a million times better value than the current one at 50 odd quid!

Yeah like the lads have said Sports Direct mate. I got the Euro 96 one for Euro 2012, loved it. I'm trying to get the grey one from Euro 96 and the England shirt from 1998! But will make do with 1990 if I can't find one.
Ric Flair Posted 27 May 2014 Posted 27 May 2014 Saying that I have just found this on Ebay for £90! Absolute dream that pal
Soar Fox Posted 27 May 2014 Posted 27 May 2014 Saying that I have just found this on Ebay for £90! That's bloody gorgeous. Went into sports direct today didn't have any luck though,I'll try the one in town.
Soar Fox Posted 27 May 2014 Posted 27 May 2014 Just find a website with some England shirts on. http://www.classicfootballshirts.co.uk/1997-98-england-home-shirt-beckham-7.html http://www.classicfootballshirts.co.uk/1996-97-england-away-shirt-gascoigne-8-xl.html
Fox92 Posted 27 May 2014 Posted 27 May 2014 My Dad has kept them all. Still in mint condition but obviously the originals. He's contemplated putting them on eBay but I went against the idea. They all look fantastic still. 98 was my favourite shirt. Was only 7 but it's the first England shirt I can remember having.

I think I only had 2 or 3 England shirts when I was growing up. Kept all my Leicester kits, most of the 90's shirt had a players name & number on the back.

It's brilliant, I don't know if I can ever justify spending £90 on a shirt though! I seen that Beckham 7 98 shirt on Ebay mate. My Dad has kept them all. Still in mint condition but obviously the originals. He's contemplated putting them on eBay but I went against the idea. They all look fantastic still. 98 was my favourite shirt. They're all in the loft, but he only had them down other day!
