The World Cup Fever Thread

Recommended Posts

I'm hoping this doesn't get merged into the other World Cup thread, as I think there should be one separate from all the technical conversations about squads and how shite England are going to do.

I thought we'd have an excitable thread for all those things that get you in the mood for the world cup: Nostalgic TV shows, preview mags, wall charts, etc; and where to find them all.

I'm very into all that childish stuff and I'd hate to miss out on all those things; the sooner I get World Cup fever the better. I'm sure there are many other people who feel the same, after all we've now got almost no football for over 3 weeks!

So if there are any World Cup programmes on in the build up to the tournament, tell us in here. If see any pull outs or preview mags in the shop, let the Foxes Talk brethren know. And if you like a few nostalgia driven video highlights from World Cups gone by, see this thread. Case and point:

Also, let us know what your plans are for the world cup. Organised any World Cup BBQs? Watching it while abroad? Going to Brazil?

Embrace World Cup fever! I for one can't wait.

I absolutely love major tournaments and obviously the World Cup is the pinnacle. I've got this whole week off work as study leave for my upcoming CIMA exam but I won't be studying at all, i'll be watching old England videos as it's my favourite past time in the weeks leading up. One Night In Turin, anything else Italia 90 based. There is a fantastic 10 part documentary on you tube that a journalist did during Italia 90, i've watched it a few times over the years and you can't help get buzzed up and wish you were heading out to follow our country.

This tournament got me in to football aged 7, it's been classed as the most boring world cup of all time with the fewest goals and lots of ill-discipline but it's still magical in my eyes. So many characters in Roger Milla, Rene Higuita, Maradona, Schillaci, Gazza, Rijkaard, all the Irish, Mattheus and obviously the best England shirt of all time.

France 1998 and original Ronaldo was the best World Cup from the ones I can remember.

Even though I support Northern Ireland, Germany v Ireland in 2002 still remains the best match for atmosphere I have even seen in a pub, couldn't even hear myself scream when Keane equalised!

This is my first World Cup since living in England and cant wait for it to start and the pub banter.

I think I've got the following week off apart from Friday. What a night that will be. There's a party at mine and everyone's invited :vardy:

Decent mini mag with FourFourTwo this month

Nice one man, just picked it up.

I still remember the one from 2002, it had a brilliant intro page that I read before every world cup, a classic bit of writing to sum up why it's so special. I might type it up and post it at some point.

Just copy and paste the youtube link into your post mate, that's it.

This wasn't a bad opening goal of a World Cup!
