Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 Colombia, definitely. Mean defence and quality in attack, used to the climate. They'll bomb now.
Dan Posted 8 June 2014 Posted 8 June 2014 Could the French be onto something here? Turning in some excellent form recently and no-one's tipped them to do anything.

Looking better without Ribery by all accounts, French journos I follow on Twitter have been nursing hard ons over the collective performances of Greizmann and Valbuena the past few games - not a betting man but they'll be great value at the bookies, no doubt.

They've a lot of very decent players. If you go through their side it isn't made up of top names like it used to be but they've got a lot of players with a lot about them. Those two, Matuidi, Cabaye, Benzema (though I'd say he's largely considered a top player), Giroud, Pogba etc... are all very decent. I'm intrigued by this lot.
GingerrrFox Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 Ghana. With doubts on Ronaldo's fitness I think Ghana could spring a surprise and get out of the group. As long as their defence holds up well they have quality going forward.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 There are doubts over Ronaldo's fitness? I need to know more, this could make or break my dreamo.
Narborough_fox Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 There are doubts over Ronaldo's fitness? I need to know more, this could make or break my dreamo. He's had tendinosis in his knee but he's expected to make the first game of the group stages.
GingerrrFox Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 There are doubts over Ronaldo's fitness? I need to know more, this could make or break my dreamo. He's been struggling with a knee injury and a seperate thigh injury. They say he will be fit for the first game but he only started training yesterday.
fox123 Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 I like the French squad on paper, but it might be a tournament too early for them to really contend for anything. My "main" surprise package id say would be Colombia. Strong spine of the team with Ospina in goal, Zapata, Yepes and Perea and Mosquera are all experienced defenders and read the game well. I would perhaps worry about their pace at the back in spite of the huge number of caps between the centre backs. Out wide, PACE. Juan Cuadrado is a dangerous player, wide right man who will work tirelessly and is versatile. In front of them, the likes of Guarin, Rodriguez and Torres are all comfortable on the ball and creative. Torres playing in the number 10 role is particularly dangerous and is perhaps an unknown quantity to opposition teams, and us. Plenty of striking options. Jackson Martinez has looked a fine player in the Porto side, pace and power, and no more needs to be said about Falcao. Luis Muriel is a youngster from Udinese with a big future and one to look out for too. Currently attracting lots of interest, not least from the premiership. Falcao is out of the World Cup, but they are still a decent side.
Charnwood Norris Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 I'm gonna go with Greece. Qualified 2nd in their European group. Don't conceed many goals (4 in 10 games in qualifying), don't score many either. Used to the heat. I can see them getting through to the QF on penalties.

Used to the heat. I can see them getting through to the QF on penalties. Interesting, you're back them to beat either Italy, England or Uruguay in the last 16? Uruguay would have a field day against them lot, Italy wouldn't have a problem either. We're the only ones who would no doubt make it hard for ourselves. I think Japan will get out of that group, so that only leaves the other place between Colombia (decent) Ivory Coast (talented but reknown chokers) and the unfancied Greece.
CosbehFox Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 Algeria will qualify from their group. Russia will hate playing them with their lack of pace. Korea game possibly a great game for the neutral. Agree with the sentiment Greece will qualify from their group. Not pretty to watch but they perform above themselves. Also backing Colombia each way. Though I think Brazil will piss it.
kingfox Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 I've said Chile already, but them along with Colombia for me, could make real strides at the World Cup, they have high calibre players, who can blow most teams away. Even without Falcao, I can see Colombia doing really well, the strikers they are taking, three did well for their club sides this season, while Teofilo Gutierrez has a decent scoring record for the national side. Put them with the likes of Santiago Arias, Juan Zuniga, James Rodriguez, Juan Cuadrado, Fredy Guarin, Victor Ibarbo, they have very highly rated players in their side, who can attack with pace.
David Guiza Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 Chile, some quality players in there. Played some great football in 2010 and the conditions should suit them too, fancy them to go reasonably far with a favourable draw.
Leicesterpool Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 Yeah agree about Chile they gave England a bit of an hiding last year at wembley. For that group I'm tiping Chile to win it, netherlands second. Spain to go out early. Australia i can't see even scoring a goal.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 There's no point even joking about writing off Spain, absolutely no chance they're heading home before the quarters.
Sharpe's Fox Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 Spain have the best squad in the entire competition, fo sho.
