LeicesterBran Posted 19 May 2014 Posted 19 May 2014 Who do you guys think will cause a upset at the World Cup ? I personally believe Bosnia, can cause a shock as they have a decent squad with the likes of Pjanic,Dzeko,Begovic and Kolasinac. Also wouldn't be surprised to see Japan, make it to the quarters I get a feeling that they can do it. They have a good coach, play decent football and a have talent in their squad.
Swarles Barkley Posted 19 May 2014 Posted 19 May 2014 For me its England. Surprise in the fact that I believe they can make the semis which many have not predicted. As opposed to past tournaments, we dont have that plethora of "big stars" and there is lack of optimism for fans.(kinda like leicesters season) I reckon they can only benefit from this and do pretty well. (No chance of winning it though!)
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 19 May 2014 Posted 19 May 2014 Before anyone does, you're not allowed to say Belgium... And I'm saying Croatia.
Fox92 Posted 19 May 2014 Posted 19 May 2014 To be fair they could finish second. In their group they've only got Argentina as the strong force. But say they come second, they've got to play the winners of group E (which in my opinion will be France).
Jimothy Posted 19 May 2014 Posted 19 May 2014 Ok I'm gonna make the same joke I accidentally made in another thread. Iran.
the_enlightened_one Posted 19 May 2014 Posted 19 May 2014 Colombia? Key players: Cristian Zapata (AC Milan) Fredy Guarin (Inter) James Rodriguez (Monaco) Radamel Falcao (Monaco) Jackson Martinez (Porto)
bovril Posted 19 May 2014 Posted 19 May 2014 There's often a Balkan surprise package and I agree Bosnia could do well.
One Legged Beaver Posted 19 May 2014 Posted 19 May 2014 USA would be my guess, a fairly decent squad of a players with a very good manager.
Nalis Posted 19 May 2014 Posted 19 May 2014 Before anyone does, you're not allowed to say Belgium... Well said. Thought I was going to see a thread full of Belgium entries here... I'll say Nigeria.
Dan Posted 19 May 2014 Posted 19 May 2014 Mexico, with it being in South America and that. Not bad for a North American side.
Amin Posted 19 May 2014 Posted 19 May 2014 Chile, Colombia, Uruguay and Ecuador (I'm not sure if the first 3 would really be a surprise though).
Stadt Posted 19 May 2014 Posted 19 May 2014 Nobody fancies France then? they aren't as good as they were but they've still got decent players in Ribery and Benzema.
Donut Posted 19 May 2014 Posted 19 May 2014 I like the French squad on paper, but it might be a tournament too early for them to really contend for anything. My "main" surprise package id say would be Colombia. Strong spine of the team with Ospina in goal, Zapata, Yepes and Perea and Mosquera are all experienced defenders and read the game well. I would perhaps worry about their pace at the back in spite of the huge number of caps between the centre backs. Out wide, PACE. Juan Cuadrado is a dangerous player, wide right man who will work tirelessly and is versatile. In front of them, the likes of Guarin, Rodriguez and Torres are all comfortable on the ball and creative. Torres playing in the number 10 role is particularly dangerous and is perhaps an unknown quantity to opposition teams, and us. Plenty of striking options. Jackson Martinez has looked a fine player in the Porto side, pace and power, and no more needs to be said about Falcao. Luis Muriel is a youngster from Udinese with a big future and one to look out for too. Currently attracting lots of interest, not least from the premiership.
purpleronnie Posted 19 May 2014 Posted 19 May 2014 I think it would be a surprise if wales or scotland did well.
Zapp Posted 19 May 2014 Posted 19 May 2014 Unless Columbia make the final I don't think they count as a surprise package. 2nd in qualifying behind Argentina. Some of their players are real quality and were the only side who Argentina failed to beat at home. Their group is quite kind and if they get through that they face us, Italy or Uruguay. South American advantage could play a part against Europe. They also beat Uruguay 4-0 in quals. So yeah, my money is on Columbia to reach the semis. Barring further specific injuries it's more than realistic
