How much will we spend this summer?

Recommended Posts

Strange thread really. If we buy Ulloa for £7M plus add-ons, and then get Madjid Bougherra, Gareth Barry, Fraizer Campbell, Mark Allbrighton and others for free, how much does that mean we have spent on transfers, £7M or shed loads more on high wages?

Edit Campbell at £800K ( nearly free ).

The question should be 'how much do we need to spend'?

You can't be serious suggesting that due to our activity so far is the basis of your views on our entire preseason signing activity. It made a lot of sense to do the free transfer buys early. But we are in the middle of the wc where lots of potential talent is on display. How many major league teams have made big buys already. Etc for Costa to Chelsea. The major action will happen I am sure from mid July to the end of the window. Everyone needs to take a chill pill.

I'm not very serious just expressing my frustration at the inactivity and the endless list of players we're linked with while so little happens. But if, as you suggest,we're doing our homework for next season during the World Cup in Brazil we're way off the pace we need.

We should have known our next targets long ago.

I've nothing specific against the free transfers but don't see that they're gonna do much more than pad the squad out. When I hear of Southampton chasing the likes of Hernandez, now that gets the pulse going.

As it is Pearson's not even signed a new contract and that's the kiss of death for almost any potential signing, let alone a good one.

Pearson's not leaving...until he's done a thorough hand-over to Mancini. He's still working on his spreadsheet and powerpoint.

You cant rely on what is in the media to determine who is looking at who.  i am sure there are some managers who leak for what ever reason, but I don't think ours does.

I am sure the main targets are scouted and discussions are or have taken place, but as most players are on leave or at the WC I don't think it fair to expect us to be doing more business than any other team, as I said in my post to you there haven't been many transaction.  i would suggest we have been the most active team in the PL if not in major league Europe.  I do expect the team to make their major player acquisitions in July and August.

Yes it is frustrating for fans who always love to see their team active in the window.  But there is so much time left, there will be weeks of frustration to come.

Spot on as per usual, I too am underwhelmed. Ok the Wc is on but the lack of activity coupled with rumours we are interested in a Port Vale full back don't fill me with optimism or confidence. At this rate allied with our first six fixtures it will be nil points.

I am still enjoying being Champions with 102 points and will continue to do so until after my summer holidays in July when I have given the big one about being champions.

Sometimes I wonder what this board would have been like under our glory years under O'Neill.

The season we went up via the play-offs in 1996 - we did the following transfer activity that summer

Jul  - Signed Muzzy Izzet & Spencer Prior (free)
Aug - Bought - Kasey Keller & Ian Marshall

Hardly getting the pulses racing, but those players got us another trip to Wembley and lifted the League Cup at Hillsborough.

if you're a fan in your 20's my advice would be enjoy this time, I was fortunate to watch City at Wembley 7 times in 20's and have a couple of European trips as well, that was such a special time to be a fan! I have a feeling the good times are about to rock n roll again for our great club. I end to enjoy every minute of it!

If Frankie is saving this post - Put me down on us making top 10 next season - I for one have been pleased with the clubs business so far with all transfers making sense and when the real transfer activity starts I am confident Pearson & Co will improve the squad even further.

I am off to enjoy the rest of the World Cup, Kasabian, Wimbledon and of course my summer holidays!

I have to say that I am concerned that Pearson has not signed a new contract. If he is asking for a salary of 3 million pounds, then I have to say he is being very greedy, although there is no proof that this is the case.

We need to be established in the Premiership for that kind of money.

bugger all by the look of it

Nah...

Holiday time is nearing its conclusion.

Some business will be done over the next few weeks and expect to see some money spent.

We need to.

Enough of this attitude that the Prem 'isn't all that'. We must strengthen.

Everybody was underwhelmed by our transfer activity last summer and look where that got us. Everything Pearson and Walsh do will be deeply considered.

It's not even July yet so calm down people

Although figures are being said, I just can't see us spending huge amounts.

If Pearson signs a new contract (which he will) we know from past seasons that he doesn't splash the cash and does most of his business early.

As it stands we have signed a few on free's and being linked with one large fee for another striker. IMO I don't think we'll see much else, Pearson will put faith in the likes of Drinkwater, James, Morgan etc

We desperately need a LB though.

We desperately need a pacey centre half as well.

Has Pearson ever been given a large wad to spend before?

We're in the PL we need to bring in experience and real quality in a few positions.

Give it time. It's still very early. Very little business has taken place yet.

I reiterate, its not about how much WILL we spend, but how much SHOULD we spend. IMO the two figures may well be way apart.

I have heard he is happy with what he has got. Expect no more than two more signings? Unless, we sell some more we are not bringing in a load more. Hence, why, contracts are being renewed and sorted with what we already have.

Some, on here will be disappointed with this news. However, it is what will happen.
