You can't just expect a player to give up a contract, he'd be mad to say "finish my contract" with nothing else lined up. In any case, Gallagher did go out on loan last season, same as Futacs. True. Put your yourself in Gally's opinion. If were playing for a team you had no real emotional ties to, eg, Ipswich, and they gave you a long contract for more than what you are worth then why throw that away for nothing esp. if you have a family to be thinking of?
