Beliall Posted 20 June 2014 Posted 20 June 2014 I hadnt considered that. Japan is also a long long way away and we had excellent support there.
Leicesterpool Posted 20 June 2014 Posted 20 June 2014 I hadnt considered that. Japan is also a long long way away and we had excellent support there. I agree that the support could have been better, i only heard two chants from our fans and it's the same two chants every time.
C-man Posted 20 June 2014 Posted 20 June 2014 Not just the players but the fans too. Was dead quiet during the anthem and where was all the support and flags? We look really poorly supported at this wc. Can't comment on the noise but the flags were being removed by security as it blocked the 'advertising boards'. Absolute horseshit as all it covers was that stupid little FIFA pattern at the foot of each tier. Has happened at every single game I've been to. The way FIFA have allocated tickets too is what makes us look poorly supported. Trust me there are tonnes of England fans in every host city and beyond that just couldn't get England games. About half way through my trip now and have to say my only complaint would be about FIFA's lack of organisation/information and the way they have treated fans - eg ridding fans of flags, trying to get people to sit when clearly no-one wants to (including when seats are fvcking soaking). The beaucracy they have put in the way of the locals, who are doing all they can to help effectively and efficiently is a real disgrace.
purpleronnie Posted 20 June 2014 Posted 20 June 2014 I guess not having the drum hasn't improved the atmosphere....shock!

Its a shame they have interfered in that way.
Vacamion Posted 20 June 2014 Posted 20 June 2014 Maybe they don't think it's right singing the british anthem for the england team. Wales and Scotland are allowed to play their own anthem but we're not. I'm confused. What's the anthem of the England football team if it isn't GSTQ???
Manwell Pablo Posted 20 June 2014 Posted 20 June 2014 I'm confused. What's the anthem of the England football team if it isn't GSTQ??? Vindaloo by Fat Les, everyone knows this.
Jimothy Posted 20 June 2014 Posted 20 June 2014 I'm confused. What's the anthem of the England football team if it isn't GSTQ??? I think the point he's making is GSTQ is the British anthem. It's used at when Britain win things in sporting events. If we win a gold medal at the Olympics they play GSTQ. If Scotland win a gold at the commonwealth games they play flower of Scotland, what do they play if a England win? Yep GSTQ. If we're gonna share GSTQ with the rest of Britain for British things, England, when it's just England involved should have its own anthem, just like Scotland and Wales. For once I agree with Leicesterpool.

FFS We don't "share" God Save the Queen with anyone, we impose it on them, Has somebody put something in the water supply in Leicestershire this week, this is fcking painful.

Meh whatever, I'd rather we didn't impose it then or at least imposed something else on them. No wonder some foreign people think England and the United Kingdom are one of the same thing.
Danno Posted 20 June 2014 Posted 20 June 2014 After the world cup I hope we try something like this. Hart Jones Stones Cahill Baines Carrick Henderson Barkley Sterling Rooney Sturridge
Grandad. Posted 21 June 2014 Posted 21 June 2014 If dickhead is going to persist with this 4-2-3-1 formation then for me the side for that friendly in August has to be something like this.. Hart © Flanagan -- Cahill -- Stones -- Shaw Henderson -- Wilshire The Ox -- Barkley -- Sterling Sturridge

I agree with this. And I actually like us playing it because it emphasises our rich history. Jerusalem is a good tune but I prefer GSTQ.

Hart © Flanagan -- Cahill -- Stones -- Shaw Henderson -- Wilshire The Ox -- Barkley -- Sterling Sturridge Exactly the team I would go with. Especially at the back, I want to see Stones, Shaw and Flanagan getting games ASAP. Would still like to find a decent young midfielder other than Wilshere, not because he's not good enough, but because he so injury prone.

Hart © Flanagan -- Cahill -- Stones -- Shaw Henderson -- Wilshire The Ox -- Barkley -- Sterling Sturridge I agree with all of that except, and I know I may get called clueless for this, I would have Rooney upfront. Just my opinion.
Jimothy Posted 21 June 2014 Posted 21 June 2014 I agree with all of that except, and I know I may get called clueless for this, I would have Rooney upfront. Just my opinion. Time for a change, a big change. And time for youth.
Jam Posted 21 June 2014 Posted 21 June 2014 Time for a change, a big change. And time for youth. Believe me, I agree totally, and I've, like everyone else, have been majorly let down by Rooney. However it just doesn't feel, 'right', to leave one of our most prolific goal scorers out. I know most of his many goals have come in friendlies and qualifiers. I think we are going to need him for the qualifiers, is it wrong to use him for those and drop him for the tournanment? Haha

I would keep Cahill at the back because I think it's crazy to have a back line of kids, but in terms of attacking players I think you can be a bit more adventurous. Rooney might have been top scorer in the qualifiers, but he played every game. What if we went with Sturridge on a regular basis? I think we've got to be prepared to persist with the young players and build a new team, not worry too much about results, or performances, we should qualify for Euro 2016 without Rooney and Gerrard etc anyway, and those youngster will learn a great deal from that qualifying campaign. They'll go to euro 2016, they might crash and burn, but we have to persist, we'll better in the long run for it.
Mike Oxlong Posted 21 June 2014 Posted 21 June 2014 See the Cavani/Suarez v England's defence gif among these. The handshake gif and the one with the altercation between the coach and the Lino are pretty good too http://www.theguardian.com/sport/blog/2014/jun/21/gifs-giving-world-cup-cristiano-ronaldo-robin-van-persie
