Donut Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 Nah, I'd go with that. Johnson has been Slagged someting chronic on here, and he is still terrible, but was the best Liverpool player on the pitch by a mile. Bar Suarez. No doubt Lofty will be in here tell us Gerard was MOTH. If his memory of convenience will allow him to remember the game "Gerrard was MOTM by far, Henderson was a class act"...... dont worry, itll be on its way soon

fox123 Posted 20 June 2014 Posted 20 June 2014 Tactics were shite and Sturridge kept coming too deep. I'd be inclined to play Sturridge on the right where he kept drifting to a lot of the game.
Donut Posted 20 June 2014 Posted 20 June 2014 "I was smashed so couldn't remember much, I remember Rooney scoring and the pub going mental but that's it." you read my mind
conLAD logan Posted 20 June 2014 Posted 20 June 2014 Just can't wait to see who actually replaces Gerrard, he's no holding midfielder that's for sure!
Donut Posted 20 June 2014 Posted 20 June 2014 "I was in the pub, i was so smashed i didnt remember much, but i remembered all of Gerrard's good bits"
act smiley Posted 20 June 2014 Posted 20 June 2014 I'm still seeing people slate Rooney? Well yeah. He wasn't Gerrard bad, but was still pretty bad; you know how for every school team, there's always the kid who thinks he's god's gift to sport and tries to do it all himself regardless of what he's supposed to be doing? It was like that. In the first game, Sterling made 32 passes in that position in a game where England had 48% possession, Rooney made only 23 in a game where england had 62%. It's why Sturridge kept ending up too deep and the shape just looked awful.

Rooney was one of the best players on the pitch and although the finishing was a bit below-par, he still got his goal and it was a goal that was deserved. Notice that he was part of the play that led up to his goal? I don't see how you think Rooney tried to do it all himself in this match. I didn't see it like that at all. I slated Rooney a lot vs Italy and in my eyes it was warranted. Today though? Not at all. There were far worse players tonight (and who probably passed less if that's of any convenience to you) and Rooney shined tonight in a positive way.
Charl91 Posted 20 June 2014 Posted 20 June 2014 I hate Rooney, and think he's a terrible player. He wasn't too bad today though, at least in the second half of the game. It was Gerrard who let the side down.

Time to hang his england boots up me thinks
foxes_rule1978 Posted 20 June 2014 Posted 20 June 2014 Jose wants the England job... He really does... It will most likely happen
teblin Posted 20 June 2014 Posted 20 June 2014 We do have good youngsters coming through, but the centre back issue worries me for the future, as home and smallish are poor. The Michael Keane start all the time for the u21's.
MooseBreath Posted 20 June 2014 Posted 20 June 2014 It's time now to completely dismiss the likes of Gerrard, Lampard, even Rooney. They have had their chance and have shown over and over and over that they are nothing more than average footballers, at international level. Both the FA, the next England manager and the nation need to grow a pair and accept that we must build and develop the best young side we can. A side capable of playing together for years. And we must accept that we aren't going to win anything, therefore, until it has had the time to develop. We need a good young manager to flourish with his good young squad. New ideas, new ways of playing. Rules on Prem sides having to play home-grown players. Ladies and gents, the last time we crashed out the group stage was in 1958! We literally are at rock bottom as a footballing nation. Unless something really radical is done, I swear we'll be in the same situation in another ten years time, and another... We're not at rock bottom, we were worse off in 2008, and guess what? That was with a squad who had been together for years, coached by a young english manager who at the time was highly rated and had been part of the setup for years. We failed much worse then than we have now. Agree on minimum number of domestic players in match day squads though. What we need is better players and that is one way that could be achieved.
CupidStunt Posted 20 June 2014 Posted 20 June 2014 Jags was fu cking wham tonight like let's not beat about the bush if we take jt an Cole to this WC were through on six points already I personally agree, I would have like to see them both here, definitely Cole. I think not bringing him was a mistake However, you cant win either way, if they came and we lost, people would have been asking why have we bought golden oldies to Brazil
tylesta Posted 20 June 2014 Posted 20 June 2014 Looked clueless in the final third at times. Tactics were woefull. Defence were utter tosh..what the **** is the point in having attacking full backs if theres no one in the box!!! Pissed me off with our first few corners we had 3 diffrent corner takers out of 4 or 5 don't we work on these in training!!!
Tielemans63 Posted 20 June 2014 Posted 20 June 2014 I'm still trying to figure out how a side full of pace, going out to attack the opposition with pace managed to look so slow and ponderous. If you can't even execute Plan A then you're ****ed really aren't you? The only thing Gerrard got right last night was his pre-match prediction that the game would be won or lost in defence. Bang on Steven.
RowlattsFox Posted 20 June 2014 Posted 20 June 2014 Hope van Gaal can somehow make jones or smalling into top class centre backs. Jones in particular has the attributes.
RowlattsFox Posted 20 June 2014 Posted 20 June 2014 You know there is some more heartache to come. We'll thrash Costa Rica, Italy will be beating Uruguay 1-0 with minutes to go and we are through. Suarez scores with last kick, probably punches it in.

reynard Posted 20 June 2014 Posted 20 June 2014 Sadly a very predictable result. of course we are not yet out of it and I think there is a good chance Italy will beat both Costa Rican and Uruguay. Whether we could beat Costa Rica by enough goals is a different matter altogether. if we face a "dead" game versus Costa Rica then I would really shake things up. I would be looking long term and I wouldn't play any player without a good chance of playing in the World Cup in Russia in four years time. So out would go Gerrard and Rooney. We need to be realistic we have some good young players who maybe are just not quite ready yet. However, we need to building team from now onwards. No short term old faces just a realisation that all that matters is the world cup in Russia. Use the euros as a way of building that team. They are becoming a farcical competiton in any case. There also needs to be a radical shake up at league level. This I'm afarid will never happen as long as the premier league exists in its current format. I'd go the same way as cricket. centrally contracted players loaned back to their clubs, rule changes to enforce that match day squads contain at least a decent quota of home nation players (realise this is probably illegal under European law) and I'd encourage young players to try and play in other leagues to widen their skills etc etc. Our good young players need chances to play regularly and not be overplayed. Also the press and fans need to be more realistic and more patient. Let's set out a long term plan and try to stick to it without knee jerk reactions when things go wrong.
AKCJ Posted 20 June 2014 Posted 20 June 2014 Hope van Gaal can somehow make jones or smalling into top class centre backs. Jones in particular has the attributes. It looks like it's going to be Stones and Jones for the next WC then.
Guest ttfn Posted 20 June 2014 Posted 20 June 2014 It looks like it's going to be Stones and Jones for the next WC then. Glen Joneson and Leighton Bones at full back.
Ric Flair Posted 20 June 2014 Posted 20 June 2014 There needs to be 5000+ more UEFA qualified coaches in this country. Most schools should have them. We need a blueprint. Failing that, we created the game so let's stop anyone else playing it. Bugger off up your own end and create your own sports, this is ours!!!!
Simmo86 Posted 20 June 2014 Posted 20 June 2014 Glen Joneson and Leighton Bones at full back. John Flanagan/Calum Chambers and Luke Shaw
