Stadt Posted 20 June 2014 Posted 20 June 2014 I like that side but we shouldn't forget Walcott. He was a big loss this tournament I think.Just a shame he's always injured - up until he got injured he was unplayable
Grandad. Posted 20 June 2014 Posted 20 June 2014 I like that side but we shouldn't forget Walcott. He was a big loss this tournament I think. Yeah, there's still Walcott, Rooney, Henderson, Welbeck (who hasn't let England down this tournament), Baines and co. We need to start all over again now and we have two years to do so, how many games will we play a year with qualifiers and friendlies? 4 competitive qualifiers before the end of the year and a friendly in August. Then around 10 games in 2015 and 5 or 6 before Euro 2016, around 20 games to get your youngsters in, experienced and can build their own team going on for the next 8-10 years!
Corky Posted 20 June 2014 Posted 20 June 2014 Neil Ashton knows where it's at. James Milner should've played and we took too many kids.
Manwell Pablo Posted 20 June 2014 Posted 20 June 2014 Upon re watching the game (no idea why) I've now realised Rooney wasn't all that bad. The chance in the box where he fired it straight at their keeper was a shocker though. Defence was a shambles. Gerrard was pretty anonymous. Henderson tried hard but doesn't look at this level yet. Sturridge and Sterling were probably our best players this tournament. The team needs to be built around those pair now, Sterling will be the bollocks in a few years. Rooney was our MOTM last night, it's just fashionable to slate him.
Samilktray Posted 20 June 2014 Posted 20 June 2014 Rooney was our MOTM last night, it's just fashionable to slate him.I wouldn't say he was MOTM, not for me anyway.
AKCJ Posted 20 June 2014 Posted 20 June 2014 I wouldn't say he was MOTM, not for me anyway. I'd probably put Hart as our MOTM. Only by the fact he was the only one to do nothing wrong. He'd probably get a 5/10.

Dan Posted 20 June 2014 Posted 20 June 2014 The most irritating thing about last night is the fact Uruguay were so, so average. Suarez and Cavani were the difference. Otherwise, absolutely mediocre side. Colombia would slap them.

Strokes Posted 20 June 2014 Posted 20 June 2014 The Premier League produced the most talented England side sine 1966, on paper, it wasn't the Premeir League or the foreign players in it at fault for them not turning up for 3 tournaments. They were already established or breaking through before this epidemic....as the influx has increased our crop has declined. Still having said all that, it shouldnt be a problem finding 23 decent players in our league. The main issues lie further away than the premier league.

Not really, the prem was founded in 1992 - 1993, plenty of non English players in the side that won it. There were English players playing in the top flight I'll admit, and there had been for years. Incidentally England were still wank and didn't even get to USA 94
Stadt Posted 20 June 2014 Posted 20 June 2014 The English leagues have been full of English players for well over 100 hundred years and we win a solitary World Cup in that time, more English players doesn't automatically mean more success.
RowlattsFox Posted 20 June 2014 Posted 20 June 2014 The most irritating thing about last night is the fact Uruguay were so, so average. Suarez and Cavani were the difference. Otherwise, absolutely mediocre side. Colombia would slap them. That's the difference though. A truly world class player can carry a team of average players at times. We have decent to good players but no one at the top level. Hopefully Barkley and Sterling can grow into that.

Incidentally England were still wank and didn't even get to USA 94 But the three foreign player limit was still in until about 96, 97 if i remember correctly. After that the influx really started, it has had an impact, no doubt about it but i agree its not the biggest factor.
foxfanazer Posted 20 June 2014 Posted 20 June 2014 That's the difference though. A truly world class player can carry a team of average players at times. Too right, just look at Liverpool! *awaits grandad backlash*
AKCJ Posted 20 June 2014 Posted 20 June 2014 !!!!!!!!!!! Rooney our best player followed by Henderson. Henderson? ****ing hell, did he even play?

LeicesterBran Posted 20 June 2014 Posted 20 June 2014 We were garbage last night and our defence was poor making stupid mistakes. Rooney actually played decent, meanwhile Gerrard was shit and needs to retire from international football. Also we desperately need to invest at grassroots level of football and get coaches in who favour attacking football than boring defensive football. So in the future England, can really compete in the future.

GingerrrFox Posted 20 June 2014 Posted 20 June 2014 Until youth coaching and facilities are improved and kids are encouraged to improve rather than just winning we will have the same old same old. Take a trip to Holland and look at what normal kids get to play on every week and see why we can't replicate that. The problem is miles away from the Premier League.

They've done that to be fair, just takes longer than four years to come into fruition. EDIT: And fck me facilities have never been a problem, we're one of the best equipped nations in the world. Certainly streets ahead of most nations in this competition.

The pitches non football academy teams play on (average youth teams) are awful compared to most of the continent. Especially Holland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain etc.
