Ross-Kemp Posted 16 June 2014 Posted 16 June 2014 Need a win. I fancy, Hart Johnson Cahill Jagielka Baines Milner Henderson Welbeck (he impressed me a lot against Italy) Sterling Lallana Sturridge Neither Rooney or Gerrard did enough Saturday for me to warrant a place. However we all know Woy hasn't got the grape fruits to drop either.
ScouseFox Posted 16 June 2014 Posted 16 June 2014 Probably gonna see the same team, maybe Rooney swapping with Welbeck to see if he's any less pointless on the right than he is on the left. We'll do these you'd like to think.
kingcarr21 Posted 16 June 2014 Posted 16 June 2014 defence speaks for itself. If hodgson insists on picking Rooney i would go Gerrard Welbeck Sterling Lallana Rooney Sturridge Not a big fan of Welbeck but thought overall had a decent game putting in some good tackles. With the lack of Henderson we would need his defensive capabilities. For me if he doesnt go with Rooney i would prob go with Gerrard Henderson Sterling Barkley Lallana Sturridge Only problem with that is Sterling not in the middle where he played really well against Italy but im sure the midfield 3 could change around during the game. Having Henderson would allow a more attacking line up with Welbeck dropping to the bench
kingfox Posted 16 June 2014 Posted 16 June 2014 Hart Johnson - Cahill - Jagielka - Baines Gerrard Henderson - Milner Sterling - Sturridge - Welbeck
Fosse93 Posted 16 June 2014 Posted 16 June 2014 Confident for this. I expect Rooney to start, against the Uruguay defence he could bag a couple of goals which would do him the world of good.
Mark_w Posted 16 June 2014 Posted 16 June 2014 We'll lose, tournament basically over and we can carry on the rest of the tournament without the burden of hope. It's probably for the best.
purpleronnie Posted 16 June 2014 Posted 16 June 2014 We'll lose, tournament basically over and we can carry on the rest of the tournament without the burden of hope. It's probably for the best. As long as rooney gets his 'well deserved break' that's all i'm worried about.
Ric Flair Posted 16 June 2014 Posted 16 June 2014 Historically we are a nation who is better when they HAVE to get a result rather than protect and with Uruguay in turmoil after their embarrasing defeat we should be confident of getting the win. There's glimpses of exciting football from us, but we must raise this up several levels and cut out these defensive mistakes. I feel the latter is harder as we simply don't have enough quality in defence but there's no reason this new breed of attackers we've got can't forge a devastating partnership and hurt our opponents. It really is a case of us scoring as many as possible because there's no confidence we'll keep clean sheets right now. I don't see Roy making many changes to the line-up, I think there's argument for Johnson to be binned off and Phil Jones to start but unsettling an already fragile defence is unlikely to improve us much. Sterling is now our most dangerous player, he's having that honeymoon peroid in an England shirt and we must utilize this if we're to stand any chance of progressing. I wouldn't move him from central to out wide, not yet anyway. Rooney is unlikely to be dropped so i'd rather he is positioned out wide than Sterling. I'm very pleased The Ox is going to be back for Thursday, he's unlikely to start but having him from the bench will be massive. I can see Lampard playing a big part in Thursday's game as well, not sure if Gerrard is struggling with his fitness at the minute but Lampard might be the experienced head we need to find a way to get the win if after 60 mins we're not in control of the game. He's not necessarily a game changer like Ox, Barkley or Sterling but you can't teach his positional sense or his ability in dead ball situations. That sometimes is the difference in tight games. I would absolutely love Rooney to get an early goal and the weight be lifted off his shoulders, he'd settle down then and stop being a hinderance to us. If Roy does have the balls to bench him then Lallana on the left is the obvious choice and he'll give Baines some protection. Suarez is bound to be in for this game and he's the lift that team needs who must all be on the ropes from their shocking defeat to Costa Rica. If he doesn't play then I think we've got their number, but with him in their side they will be a different beast. I still fancy us to get the win but we need to have a game plan to snuff him out. He knows Johnson's game inside and out and he'll turn him inside and out as well, he'd have his kegs down. Gerrard needs to be bang on the money on thursday and lead this team to victory. He has the ability and know how to keep Suarez quiet. Big game, we know what we've got to do.
lgfualol Posted 16 June 2014 Posted 16 June 2014 Hart Johnson cahill jagieko baines Henderson. Gerrard Sterling. Rooney. Lallana Sturridge Play rooney just behind sturridge or not at all.
ousefox Posted 16 June 2014 Posted 16 June 2014 No reason we should lose this. Uruguay looked shit against Costa Rica and we looked impressive despite losing. I don't think I would change the team at all.
Stadt Posted 16 June 2014 Posted 16 June 2014 I have a (random) feeling Lambert will be pretty influential coming off the bench for this game.
StanSP Posted 16 June 2014 Posted 16 June 2014 Roy is more likely to drop Rooney than Gerrard. Gerrard being captain means he's the first name on the sheet. Here's hoping Sterling performs again and shows up his Liverpool counterpart on the opposition. I wonder if Suarez will start. If he doesn't play at all, we should be beating these. They were shoddy and well below-par against Costa Rica. If Suarez does play, it'll be slightly more tense and I'll be obviously slight y more wary. He can turn a game on its head in an instance. I think he'll start with the same squad as vs Italy providing no-one has picked up a knock or got injured.
Ric Flair Posted 16 June 2014 Posted 16 June 2014 I have a (random) feeling Lambert will be pretty influential coming off the bench for this game. I was thinking that too. This is the sort of game he'd be good to start in, as Uruguay will play 4-4-2 and we could expose that with getting the ball up to him and Sterling and co running on beyond. However, I don't think we'll change it around too much just yet.
Danno Posted 16 June 2014 Posted 16 June 2014 Hart Johnson Cahill Jagielka Baines Henderson Gerrard Welbeck Sterling Oxlade Sturridge
Stadt Posted 16 June 2014 Posted 16 June 2014 I was thinking that too. However, I don't think we'll change it around too much just yet.I think we'll see one change or two at most. Uruguay will have to go for it and so will we and I think that'll suit us more because their back line is worse even more with Pereira out.
GingerrrFox Posted 16 June 2014 Posted 16 June 2014 Gerrard doesn't have the legs anymore and it showed on Saturday, got abused for saying he was overrated in this new holding role he's trying to play but it was glaringly obvious that he isn't good enough in that position. He's not the player he was. Uruguay are a higher tempo team than Italy and I think Gerrard will struggle even more than against Italy. Roy should drop both Rooney and Gerrard but he will do neither. I would go: 4-2-3-1: Hart, Johnson, Cahill, Jagielka, Baines, Henderson, Milner, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Barkley, Sterling, Sturridge. Roy will go: 4-2-3-1: Hart, Johnson, Cahill, Jagielka, Baines, Henderson, Gerrard, Welbeck/Oxlade-Chamberlain, Rooney, Sterling, Sturridge. I think Milner and Henderson would give us vital legs in midfield and with their defensive prowess in midfield they would offer more cover for Johnson/Baines, which was lacking on Saturday night and allow our young attacking players the freedom to play.
Dan Posted 16 June 2014 Posted 16 June 2014 I wish I was confident for this. I just cannot be fooled into thinking Uruguay will be that bad again. If both teams replicate their performances from Saturday, we will stick 3 or 4 past these. Heart says 3-1 win. Head says 1-1.
Samilktray Posted 16 June 2014 Posted 16 June 2014 I'd drop Rooney & Wellbeck. Rooney has had too many chances and we have the players to replace him now. Barkley & Lallana in. I'd give Gerrard the first half and if he struggles get him off.
Wilson_6 Posted 16 June 2014 Posted 16 June 2014 Hart Johnson Cahill Jagielka Baines Henderson Gerrard Welbeck Sterling Oxlade Sturridge This! Would love to see this team...Cant see it happening though
RowlattsFox Posted 16 June 2014 Posted 16 June 2014 Wouldn't be surprised to see the same side, not totally against it because it can be good and we performed better with this team and subs didn't have any real impact. Again can go either way. Can see a draw myself.
Haydos Posted 16 June 2014 Posted 16 June 2014 Their defence got battered in the air against Costa Rica (If I remember right, had definitely had a few beers by then). Lambert could well cause them problems. I think we'll play the same team but I would like to see Barkley involved.
ScouseFox Posted 16 June 2014 Posted 16 June 2014 Anyone expecting more than one change clearly didn't see hodgsons interview here he claimed that Italy was our best performance since he took charge. You don't say things like that and come close to getting something from the best teak in the group and then change your system and half the players.
Fox92 Posted 16 June 2014 Posted 16 June 2014 Be nice to actually see Rooney in his position, behind the striker. Welbeck and Sterling out wide. Think Welbeck would cover Baines more as well.
Dan Posted 16 June 2014 Posted 16 June 2014 I'm not even sure I'd drop Welbeck actually. He was pretty threatening on Saturday. Be nice to actually see Rooney in his position, behind the striker. Welbeck and Sterling out wide. Think Welbeck would cover Baines more as well.
