We've still done better than England at this World Cup. England haven't won anything in close to 50 years. That should give you some food for thought.

Travelling is great for perspective though - there are great places/things and shitholes/bad things everywhere, including the UK. If you go someplace else it makes you see both in where you're from a lot clearer. For instance, I got a massive massive fvcking hankering for a Greggs steak bake, sausage roll and a bottle of Lucozade the other day. It'd be worth coming back just for that.

What we'd give for a player of his calibre today. I managed to get into an argument with Fox92 in the "Most Likeable Sportsmen" thread in which he said Beckham was over-rated - when asked why he replied (sincerely) with "I'd have like him if he'd have stayed at United which he could easily have done" and bemoaned his "celebrity" status. I think the fact he's so recognisable off the field as well as on it skewers people's opinions into thinking he was all style, no substance which quite evidently was never the case.
