Harry Maguire...again

Do like the look of him when he played in their cup run last season against some very good sides. Potential is there for all to see.

However, is he worth £2m when we were only getting a bid slightly increased on that from Fulham for Liam last season who was playing at a higher level? That, said, I definitely think he is a long term defensive partner for Liam and for that reason I'd be inclined for Nigel to take a pop on this.

I sincerely hope that Cresswell is still on our radar too. Then I think we'd be set defensively.

Then, just for an experienced midfield general (pref. DM), Fraizer Campbell and our target man whoever that may be and we will be ready for the off in my opinion.

I think he may well be worth £2m. Maybe not now, but later. If we get him on a long contract I wouldn't be upset if that's the amount we had to pay.

I agree Harry - if a long term contract, yes. Thankfully it is Nigel steering recruitment now and not Sven...

For a young English player that comparatively nothing in terms of the transfer fee.

Chronic lack of pace is what i've heard about this lad and that's a serious flaw when it comes to being good enough for the Premier League. He might well be a quality prospect but if his pace isn't there then it would take an exceptional player to succeed at that level.

He's certainly a Pearson centre back, you could say the same for Morgan, Upson and Wasyl - their lack of pace being my main concern for next season. God help us if Konchesky finds himself back at left back.

Yeah agreed, likewise Jack Hobbs. Liam Moore isn't short of pace and him alongside someone who isn't blessed with speed wouldn't be the end of the world but playing 2 centre halves who are very limited would spell trouble to me. We can't even say we're good at defending set pieces either, where pace doesn't come in to it. We'd concede loads and loads.

I keep hearing people talk about the importance of having CB's with pace, but if you look in the prem how many have pace? I agree that we probably need one of our CB's to be fairly quick, I guess Moore could be the man.

He's really really slow everytime I've seen him play.

Would he get in our side? Don't think so currently.. Assuming Liam may not start at the beginning of next season then Maguire would be even lower in the pecking order and barely get any playing time at all..

He's a very good defender, would love him here.

Because we all trust the judgment of someone with Harry Kane as their profile picture...

I'd be interested to know the successful teams that have central defenders in their side that are visibly slow.

John Terry has never had pace but he's an exceptional reader of the game, his last ditch tackling and blocks make up for the times strikers exploit the channels and try and beat him. Wes Morgan has done this at a lower level but there's been times when he's been turned inside and out by physical players as well as with blistering pace. He'll be food and drink if he's got to bail out another centre half as well.

time for the return of Sol Bamba then!

I cannot comprehend why we have retained Konchesky. I agree totally about the lack of pace.

Meant to be a good lad.

Sheffield's player of the season again I think?
