simoncccccc Posted 26 June 2014 Posted 26 June 2014 How do we think Costa Rica would perform in the Premiership? Top 5? Top 10? Relegation certanties? With NP's management, I think they would make the top 10, so here is my proposal: Leicester should buy as many of their players as possible, as long as they meet the following criteria: Max age - 26 Min Caps - 10 No goalkeepers - We're well covered. Their squad is as follows: Costa Rica's Current squad The following 23 players were selected for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.Caps and goals updated as of June 24, 2014 after the game against England. # Pos. Player Date of birth (age) Caps Goals Club 1 GK Keylor Navas December 15, 1986 (age 27) 56 0 Levante 18 GK Patrick Pemberton May 24, 1982 (age 32) 21 0 Alajuelense 23 GK Daniel Cambronero December 1, 1987 (age 26) 4 0 Herediano 2 DF Johnny Acosta July 21, 1983 (age 30) 25 1 Alajuelense 3 DF Giancarlo González February 8, 1988 (age 26) 38 2 Columbus Crew 4 DF Michael Umaña July 16, 1982 (age 31) 85 1 Saprissa 6 DF Óscar Duarte June 3, 1989 (age 25) 14 1 Club Brugge 8 DF David Myrie June 1, 1988 (age 26) 12 0 Herediano 12 DF Waylon Francis September 20, 1990 (age 23) 1 0 Columbus Crew 15 DF Júnior Díaz September 12, 1983 (age 30) 65 1 Mainz 05 16 DF Cristian Gamboa October 24, 1989 (age 24) 28 1 Rosenborg 19 DF Roy Miller November 24, 1984 (age 29) 49 1 New York Red Bulls 5 MF Celso Borges May 27, 1988 (age 26) 66 15 AIK 7 MF Christian Bolaños May 17, 1984 (age 30) 58 2 Copenhagen 11 MF Michael Barrantes October 4, 1983 (age 30) 52 4 Aalesund 13 MF Esteban Granados October 25, 1985 (age 28) 11 0 Herediano 17 MF Yeltsin Tejeda March 17, 1992 (age 22) 25 0 Saprissa 20 MF Diego Calvo April 25, 1991 (age 23) 10 1 Vålerenga 22 MF José Miguel Cubero February 14, 1987 (age 27) 37 2 Herediano 9 FW Joel Campbell June 26, 1992 (age 22) 36 10 Arsenal 10 FW Bryan Ruiz August 18, 1985 (age 28) 66 14 PSV 14 FW Randall Brenes August 13, 1983 (age 30) 41 8 Cartaginés 21 FW Marco Ureña May 3, 1990 (age 24) 27 8 Kuban Krasnodar There are 9 players that meet the criteria: Gonzalez Duarte Myrie Gamboa Borges Tejeda Calvo Campbell Urena We attempt to buy these players simultaneously (before their prices go up). How much would we pay in total? How would their wage demands compare with the existing squad? After these purchases, which (say 6) players from our existing squad should we sell, and how much would we get? What problems might arise, and how could we overcome them? If we secured all 9, what would our starting 11 and subs be against Everton?
Zapp Posted 26 June 2014 Posted 26 June 2014 theres a hell of a lot of questions there for a scenario that will never happen why on earth youve set an age cap i dont know why would we only want young players to survive? BUT there is one costa rican i would snap up asap if i thought it was realistic in any way shape or form and thats Oviedo unfortunately its not
simoncccccc Posted 26 June 2014 Author Posted 26 June 2014 why on earth youve set an age cap i dont know why would we only want young players to survive? Building for the futue. Top 10 Year 1 Top 7 Year 2 Europe Year 3
Aus Fox Posted 26 June 2014 Posted 26 June 2014 I think they would costa too much I've also headed they Rica, and that wouldn't be good in the dressing room
placidcasual Posted 27 June 2014 Posted 27 June 2014 FWIW. Gonzalez is making $250k ( so about 146 thousand pounds a year) at Columbus. I think he was signed on a free transfer before the MLS season.
Brooksy Posted 27 June 2014 Posted 27 June 2014 Are you seriously suggesting we buy the whole Costa Rica side?
Vardinhio Posted 27 June 2014 Posted 27 June 2014 the guy makes a good point, let's buy Costa Rica and then just play Mahrez with them.
Focks Posted 27 June 2014 Posted 27 June 2014 I think we'd be lucky to sign a single player that has actually played at the WC, let alone 9, and let alone any from a team that has progressed into the next round.. If NP takes anything from the Costa Rica team it should be the way the team defend and fight as a unit rather than any individual players
simoncccccc Posted 27 June 2014 Author Posted 27 June 2014 So am I right in thinking the general concensus is that I should reconsider this strategy?
simoncccccc Posted 27 June 2014 Author Posted 27 June 2014 Are you seriously suggesting we buy the whole Costa Rica side? No, just 9 of their squad.
Grantham Fox Posted 28 June 2014 Posted 28 June 2014 I'd take Campbell, Ruiz and Oviedo at Leicester... Oviedo ain't at the world cup because of injury, and I don't know anything about the rest of the squad so can't say. But add them 3 players to our squad and it'll be mid-table easily I think. However, I don't believe they would be realistic targets. I actually think Leicester are good enough to get 13th-14th ish now.
MooseBreath Posted 28 June 2014 Posted 28 June 2014 I once built an entire squad on football manager full of players called Steve, so stranger things can and have happened. (we finished 16th in the prem)

simoncccccc Posted 5 July 2014 Author Posted 5 July 2014 I hear Borges is about to sign He is on my list of nine Just another 8 to go Come on Nigel, don't be slow
MC Prussian Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 I hear Borges is about to sign He is on my list of nine Just another 8 to go Come on Nigel, don't be slow Sounds oddly familiar, this concept. I think I've heard this one before. Remind me again, which other poster boasted about his list of potential signings that he forwarded to the club a couple of years ago? Football fans, sometimes you... Okay, okay - I'll play along here: Who are the other eight then, I wonder? Higher than England I didn't know England were part of the Premier League - but then again, this whole thread is farcical to the bone.
