Even as a player I'd much rather we landed a top player by paying a bit more than miss out and it end up hitting me in my bonuses. So long as I was happy i couldn't give a toss what others were earning - in any job - and if it gets around that we'll only pay so much then we're forever going to be losing out for being "one bid" short. While I do understand that budgets have to be fixed it doesn't make sense to have such strangling restrictions on the wages of individual players even if we do want to emphasise the team ethic which I fully understand and agree with. It's a fact of life that it costs more to buy a Ferrari than a Mini and we'll have to recognise that if we're ever going to challenge where it matters. Time's passing quickly. We've got a perfectly acceptable budget. We seem to have some targets and therefore to know what we want. But, just like a striker being required to score goals, our manager needs to close some more deals now and I see no point in us constantly losing out for the sake of a few bob we can supposedly afford. What does money have to do with it really? Unless we offer 'silly wages', any neutral footballer would have chosen the same paths as creswell has taken and supposedly the path that campbell will take. West ham and Crystal palace are both in a stronger position than ourselves, both financially an structurally and therefore it makes far more sense for creswell and campbell to sign for those clubs over ourselves. It amazes me how people assume just because we are a premier league club we can buy who we want, unfortunately we are 18th in line to players, if one of the 17 clubs which were in this league last season want a player who we want we cannot compete i am afraid. But if we survive a year, then we move up the pecking order and continue to improve the quality of targets which we can actually sign.

Financially I would say becase they have been in the Prem for longer than us. I would disagree structurally though, especially with Palace. Off the pitch and at the training ground we are vert very well run and set up now.

Off the pitch and at the training ground we are vert very well run and set up now. correct- we are a much more solid proposition than Palace

Substantial bid - so surely he has a reputation. Benteke? - Not gonna be on ridiculous wages currently, would be a record fee but also a fee worth paying, villa need the money. The only problem i have with this is surely other sides would be in for him? Liverpool, chelsea, united and city don't need a new striker, but surely spurs/arsenal/everton would be sniffing?

Out structure is yet to be tested on the next stage though, i imagine all premier league sides have a set-up similar to ours. Also, Pulis is arguably the most structured/organized manager in the premier league, just look at stoke for example, i am pretty sure their organisation is top notch.

They have been in the premier league for longer than us, have players with higher wages etc... And if we are so 'Financially strong' compared to other sides why do we have such a tight wage structure compared to some of these sides? The likes of nolan has been on at least £50k since the hammers were in the championship.

But as John percy labelled him a 'proven scorer' i imagine the player would already have top flight experience and is already proven. At least that is what i am hoping for anyway. Why would spend a large sum on a player who's going to be injured for the first couple of months of the season? No, can't see it personally.
