queensguardfox Posted 7 July 2014 Posted 7 July 2014 Leicester manager Pearson refuses to discuss striker searchRead more at http://talksport.com/football/leicester-manager-pearson-refuses-discuss-striker-search-140707100369#topKgY47MkFFpySP.99 Leicester manager Nigel Pearson has remained tight-lipped on his centre-forward search - but revealed that David Nugent is on the verge of signing a new deal. Pearson has made landing a new striker his summer priority and has been linked with Fraizer Campbell, Leonardo Ulloa and Connor Wickham, among others, already. But when asked directly about the trio, the manager was given nothing away as he bids to do his transfer business away from the spotlight. He said: "I try not to speculate about other teams' players. Suffice to say that there have been a number of names linked with us and we'll always try and improve the squad. "We're always looking to see how we can tweak the squad. It's an ongoing process. Some of the names that are mentioned, there is some substance to the reports but with others there aren't. "In an ideal world, you like to get deals done quickly, but we've missed out on one or two players already." But Pearson did have some news on one particular centre-forward, Nugent, who he revealed is close to penning a new deal at the King Power Stadium. He added: "We've spoken a number of times and he knows my feelings. I think we're talking [contract] details now and hopefully that will be concluded pretty shortly." Who are the one or two?
queensguardfox Posted 7 July 2014 Author Posted 7 July 2014 i think some one will sign this week or at least a major step forward
cc_star Posted 7 July 2014 Posted 7 July 2014 Who are the one or two? Ulloa & Campbell? Nige, get your shit together. Club rumoured to have a strict structure, how much can the first team coach do?
dpjfox Posted 7 July 2014 Posted 7 July 2014 ideally any new players should be here by the start of pre season, now thats missed then here before Austria Training Camp
StanSP Posted 7 July 2014 Posted 7 July 2014 The one or two we missed out on are Cresswell and Campbell. We've wanted Cresswell for months.
Thracian Posted 7 July 2014 Posted 7 July 2014 Can't say I much agree with strict wage structures. Even as a player I'd much rather we landed a top player by paying a bit more than miss out and it end up hitting me in my bonuses. So long as I was happy i couldn't give a toss what others were earning - in any job - and if it gets around that we'll only pay so much then we're forever going to be losing out for being "one bid" short. While I do understand that budgets have to be fixed it doesn't make sense to have such strangling restrictions on the wages of individual players even if we do want to emphasise the team ethic which I fully understand and agree with. It's a fact of life that it costs more to buy a Ferrari than a Mini and we'll have to recognise that if we're ever going to challenge where it matters. Time's passing quickly. We've got a perfectly acceptable budget. We seem to have some targets and therefore to know what we want. But, just like a striker being required to score goals, our manager needs to close some more deals now and I see no point in us constantly losing out for the sake of a few bob we can supposedly afford.
pazzerfox Posted 7 July 2014 Posted 7 July 2014 Cresswell i reckon Very strange how he just signed for West Ham out of the blue when i think Bert said that we were interested months ago. If we were genuinely after him then someone wasn't on the ball...if you'll pardon the pun.
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 7 July 2014 Posted 7 July 2014 West Ham well established prem team and likely to offer him more money than we would. Absolute no brainer from his point of view.
surrifox Posted 7 July 2014 Posted 7 July 2014 I doubt if the fee for cresswell would have proved a problem - I expected him to go for quite a bit more; also there was no agent leakage that we were interested to force west ham's hand - perhaps he wasn't on the list.
