U21s / Development Squad 2014-15

Forget that, there aren't any italian teams in it. Hahahahaa

Schalke away has potential though...

Apparently the tournament starts in two weeks and there's barely any coverage at all. That article says they are hoping for decent crowds but no one seems to have a fvcking clue what's happening with it. Weird.

The competition, which does not yet have the blessing of UEFA, would include eight under-21 teams from England and eight from other countries, including Scottish champions Celtic.

But the Premier League claims the competition would not be a rival to FA chairman Greg Dyke's ambitions for some form of 'B-league' involving top-flight reserve teams.

In May, Dyke's England Commission proposed a B league to operate below League Two which is aimed at giving young players more match experience - something the new Premier League competition also aims to do.

Communications director Dan Johnson said the Premier League's proposal had been under consideration for several years and was completely unrelated to Dyke's scheme.

"We do believe it would be good for the development of talented young players but it is not an answer to the B league proposal at all. It is something we have wanted to do for a number of years," Johnson said.

"We are keen to work with UEFA on what we think is a good development opportunity and there has been a lot of support from clubs on the continent.

"Our view is that an under-21 competition with a significant programme of international fixtures at lower age levels is a good opportunity to expose players to this level of competition.

"We now need to work with UEFA for their agreement."

The new competition would see 16 clubs split into four groups of four with the top two in each group going through to the knockout stage.

Current plans are for the top eight from the Premier League's under-21 development league to take part, although Liverpool have already decided not to take up the chance, allowing West Ham in.

Chelsea, Fulham, Leicester, Manchester City, Manchester United, Southampton, Sunderland and West Ham would compete from that league along with Celtic, Athletic Bilbao, Benfica, Borussia Monchengladbach, Schalke, Porto, PSV Eindhoven and Villarreal.

Development Squad winger Adam Dawson has joined League 1 side Notts County on a one-month loan deal.

Having joined the Foxes at the start of the 2013/14 season, Dawson proved to be a highly effective force on both flanks as the Development Squad stormed to a sixth-place finish in the Barclays U21 Premier League.

The highly-rated former Bury and Liverpool youngster joined City after a spell with Wigan, and immediately impressed with his trickery, creative spark and eye for goal.

The 21-year-old now links up with Shaun Derry’s Magpies on the eve of their season opener away to Preston North End on Saturday 9 August, after which they face Championship side Sheffield Wednesday in the first round of the Capital One Cup at Hillsborough.

I thought he'd left us in the summer permanently as noticed he'd been with Notts County all of pre-season. Glad he's still ours as he's talented by all accounts.

Leicester City’s Development Squad are in action at King Power Stadium this Saturday (KO 1pm) as they take on Tottenham Hotspur in the Barclays U21 Premier League.
Originally scheduled for Monday night, the fixture has now been switched due to the first team’s home draw to Shrewsbury in the Capital One Cup, but City’s young stars will still have the chance to line up at King Power Stadium for the first time this season.

Competing in the top-tier of the revamped league format, which includes relegation and promotion, City opened their league campaign up away to Everton on Monday night, when they were edged out 3-2 in a thrilling game

Now the Foxes face what is sure to be another tough and entertaining game against Tottenham Hotspur, and they’ll be hoping that home advantage can help them get off the mark.

Last season’s Development Squad fixtures thrilled those supporters that came to watch, but with the level of quality and competition set to take another step up this time around, there’s every reason to come down and get involved with the players that could be the future of Leicester City Football Club.

In total there will be eight of City’s 11 league fixtures played at King Power Stadium next season, as well as a further three to be hosted at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry, with Steve Beaglehole’s Foxes looking to build on last season’s incredible sixth placed finish.

Tickets for the match are available in the West Stand only and are priced as follows:
Adults: £3
Concessions: £1

Wheelchair spaces are located at the front of the East Stand for this fixture.
