LAprice_ Posted 16 August 2014 Posted 16 August 2014 The names on our bench didn't excite too much but in all fairness Chris Wood and Dean Hammond looked more than capable when they came on. Schlupp lacked a finishing touch but he was certainly lively, maybe the reason why Coleman was brought on?
fleckneymike Posted 16 August 2014 Posted 16 August 2014 I think we're stuck in terms of what to do. Clearly Pearson believes that the current squad is good enough for this level, that means in certain positions he would only bring in players who are substantially better than what we currently have (Cambiasso for example) or experienced at this level. In both cases those players carry a cost or wage premium, this is a premium we are unwilling to pay for a squad player. With the unexpected injuries to James and DD we are now faced with a conundrum, do we buy an expensive squad player to cover the period of absence for James and DD or do we try and risk an untested player from abroad who'd need time to acclimatise? Additionally, much of the money we have has clearly been earmarked for a forward, and Pearson's comments about players who offer 'goal scoring options' and 'goals will keep us up' means that I imagined we are loathed to eat into that budget for an area where, when fit, we have a perceived strength.
sdb Posted 16 August 2014 Posted 16 August 2014 A RB? Why, because Knockaert played utter turd, is glacially slow & Baines took the piss out him & doubled up with Pienaar on an uncovered de Laet for a 20min spell that cost us two goals from that flank No, because RDL had a mare and we've no second RB.
maxwelld_ Posted 17 August 2014 Posted 17 August 2014 No, because RDL had a mare and we've no second RB. RDL didn't have a mare he just didn't get the support from Knocky. Baines and Pienaar are a well oiled unit who have played together for a long time. Knocky I felt didn't have the greatest of games but on the other hand thought mahrez played excellent. We drawn and played well agaisnt a top 6/8 team today. If we play like that each week we will get 40 points with ease !
Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 17 August 2014 Posted 17 August 2014 No, because RDL had a mare and we've no second RB. RDL had a mare? That's harsh IMO, it's going to take a while for them up get used to the step up
Captain... Posted 17 August 2014 Posted 17 August 2014 I think it could go either way, despite having 4 out injured , Upson, James, Albrighton, Vardy, one coming back from injury, Knocky, and then DD getting injured (any news on severity?) we didn't lose to a very good Everton side. Which shows we perhaps have a bit more depth than we think. I don't think it will force Nigel into panic spraffing and we end up with a Beckford, but he may widen his net a little and look for a couple more to flesh out the squad, maybe experienced types or young 'uns with potential that don't take up a squad place. I think getting a loan in would be sensible, but that seems unlikely according to some. With the 25 man squad system we will only have 2 players per position and losing 2 first choice midfielders or wide players will deplete any team, but doing a Holloway isn't the answer and throwing your money around and ending up with more players than you can name in your squad is just daft. I think Nigel will continue chasing the targets he has identified and I hope in the case of Deeney or Cambiasso we don't change or wage structure or transfer policy in a panic because we have a couple of injuries. A couple of the right additions and we will be set, just one wrong one and it could destroy the atmosphere and spirit within the team.

WalshyLcfc Posted 17 August 2014 Posted 17 August 2014 I thought Schlupp definitely looked lively when he came on, could be a decent weapon to use in the latter stages of games when the oppositions players are tired. Also first post!

foxfanazer Posted 17 August 2014 Posted 17 August 2014 Still don't think Nige will be held to ransom on deals. Maybe Wood will do enough to make Nige forget about Deeney and instead concentrate on other positions that need strengthening. We do look a bit light after a couple of injuries and I'd hate that to be the reason we go down
Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 17 August 2014 Posted 17 August 2014 Was impressed with how out so called 2nd choice players performed And it shows that we can be competitive in this league
roblcfc84 Posted 17 August 2014 Posted 17 August 2014 To be fair to RDL he was facing one of the most accomplished left side combinations in Europe with little cover, all things considered did ok. Can't disagree with cover at RB but RDL will do fine this season.

Agree with both of these points. I felt that neither Mahrez or Knockaert offered enough help to De Laet who looked nervy early on against that level of quality. RDL got more into the game as it went but Baines was outstanding yesterday. With more and more teams playing with these sort of wing backs the wingers defensively will need to improve. I'm not too worried yet as all 3 are young enough to improve and adapt to the prem but I would suggest that we'll see some cover in that area. Was Sam Byram linked before? And Holtby possibly. bluesbrothers Posted 17 August 2014 Posted 17 August 2014 Even putting aside my personal dislike of Deeney, I think yesterday has proven that our frontmen are capable of goalscoring in the Premier League - especially Ulloa, who was brilliant. Potentially paying 10-12 million for his "services" is an awful thought, and I sincerely hope it doesn't go any further. If we do get Cambiasso, wonderful - perhaps DD's layoff will prove a blessing in disguise if he comes in on the promise of a probable first-team place straight away. I was pleasantly surprised with Konchesky's performance yesterday: if he performs as he did yesterday, and with Schlupp for backup, I'm perfectly happy with Left Back. De Laet needs backup, though I will not judge him personally on one poor showing against a tough left flank like Everton's. We all know he's capable. So we need a right back and a central midfielder.
ADK Posted 17 August 2014 Posted 17 August 2014 I'd still have Deeney if Pearson thinks he's better than what we have.
FoxInTheBirstallBox Posted 17 August 2014 Posted 17 August 2014 WE ARE SIGNING ROD FANNI"And Eden Hazard slides into fanni due to the wet playing surface!"Genuinely can't wait
maddog Posted 17 August 2014 Posted 17 August 2014 Yes he will be looking and will always be looking. The loan market should be utilised. Would have taken Moses on loan but he's gone Stoke.
Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 17 August 2014 Posted 17 August 2014 I think we will be busy between now and the end of the window
Chrysalis Posted 18 August 2014 Posted 18 August 2014 has DD injury been confirmed and length? what about status of james and vardy? In terms of reinforcements my view is defense and midfield need to take priority, and we need to keep wood.

suffolk fox Posted 18 August 2014 Posted 18 August 2014 The bids are already upped enough, crazy money! 4 key players to come back in Albrighton, Vardy, James & Drinkwater who missed bulk of game. King & Hammond stood in well, King incredible really and this should be further strengthen by Cambiasso. Obvious we're in for a forward too, Watford rejecting £10m rising to £12m is the 2nd craziest thing I've heard (the craziest being us bidding it in 1st place) Pearson talked about new arrivals, so should be some movement this week but if not, we more than held our own against the 5th best team in the country with 40% of our outfield players not on the pitch Agree 100 % good post. Why we are willing to pay crazy money for bloody Deeney is beyond me?
Haydos Posted 18 August 2014 Posted 18 August 2014 Ridiculous really. If Welbeck is available for around £12m we could do a lot worse. Alternatively look abroad where prices are lower.
Beliall Posted 18 August 2014 Posted 18 August 2014 Id take welbeck in a heartbeat. It seems odd we pay so much for players like Ulloa when proven players go for less or similar anounts, but I would guess welbecks wages are a horror show

I really don't rate him that highly.
Beliall Posted 18 August 2014 Posted 18 August 2014 I could ask why you dont rate a current england international and manchester united striker? Hes certainly better than ****ing deeney
