Houdini Logic Posted 3 September 2014 Posted 3 September 2014 I used to think Pearson had an 'in' with Ferguson but clearly it seems more than that
Corky Posted 3 September 2014 Posted 3 September 2014 There must be a knock on effect. They've grown up together, so surely Drinkwater would've asked Cleverley what it was like, then James/ De Laet ask Drinky and now Lawrence, Barmby joining and finding out from our current lot. Pearson, despite the rumours, appears to be a fantastic man manager and works really well with younger players, add to it now being a Premier League club and we're an attractive all round proposition.
BrummieFOX Posted 3 September 2014 Posted 3 September 2014 I got the feeling (not backed up by facts) that Pearson and Fergie probably got on pretty well? Certainly Utd were more than happy to loan/sell us players. God knows what Van Gaal is now doing, other than spending. I used to think Pearson had an 'in' with Ferguson but clearly it seems more than that I'm pretty sure it's Steve Walsh that has the strong link with United, as alluded to in this article (decent read). http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/aug/22/steve-walsh-leicester-city-chelsea-jose-mourinho

What's great is that for years we've been stuck in a vicious circle of not producing or even buying and playing younger players. That looks bad to any prospective youth team player we're trying to attract. Now we not only buy in and play young talent, we have three youth teamers playing regularly in our team at the highest level. Being a Cat 1 team, being premier league and having faith in young talent is what any young player will look for when choosing a club. I really hope we're going to exploit this now at the younger age groups and we start picking up some of the very best young players out there.
Father Ted Posted 3 September 2014 Posted 3 September 2014 They will certainly regret letting Matty James go. I can tell you all that now!
stevelcfc Posted 3 September 2014 Posted 3 September 2014 Isn't it because Walsh and NP are good mates with Warren Joyce, United's reserves and development manager.
One Legged Beaver Posted 3 September 2014 Posted 3 September 2014 I may be wrong here but Ben Marshall was from Stoke wasn't he? Unless he was at United before Stoke.
Buzzell Posted 3 September 2014 Posted 3 September 2014 They will certainly regret letting Matty James go. I can tell you all that now! Drinkwater too. It just goes to show that when young, talented lads get game time they turn out to become top players. When looking at our current side, it's quite exciting seeing all these young, talented, English players amongst the squad.

The Horse's Mouth Posted 3 September 2014 Posted 3 September 2014 They will certainly regret letting Matty James go. I can tell you all that now! I doubt it.
Carlos88LCFC Posted 3 September 2014 Posted 3 September 2014 I doubt it. Why do you doubt it? Matty James is a class player. If he stays injury free and steps up to the premiership then I can see him in an England shirt. He's underrated because he doesn't play the way Drinkwater does but if you watch his off the ball movement, composure and simplicity to his game... He's class! Drinkwaters more exciting to watch and can score the odd screamer but Matty James is more rounded (no pun) for the type of midfielder he is. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Adds to my point of being underrated. He's one of the best players we have and working with Cambiasso will REALLY do him good.
copunk Posted 3 September 2014 Posted 3 September 2014 obviously heard and seen a lot of powell over the last couple of seasons, so we know what we are gonna get, but have only heard about tom Lawrence a couple of times, is he that good??
Father Ted Posted 3 September 2014 Posted 3 September 2014 Steady, he is a solid/good championship player at the moment who has potential to do well in the premier league. Let's not be delusional. Not being delusional but James and Drinkwater completely smashed the Championship up together last season - often even when up against 5 in the middle. Personally, I think that James has a lot more explosiveness and dynamism to his game than Drinkwater that could take him further than Drinky. When you look that Jack Colback is in the England squad and that Henderson and Wilshere are the starting pair tonight (one who began his career as a winger at Sunderland and was considered a flop at Liverpool until last season and the other who doesn't always regularly start for his club side and has a wretched attitude), I really don't think that Drinkwater and James can be far off a call up.
