Next 5 Games - Our Acid Test?

The Stokes, Burnleys Hulls and Palace type sides are exactly the type we're far more capable of losing. We had nothing to lose in the opening 3 games which helped us immeasurably. However, if we want to stay up this season we need to take 3 points off teams like above

i had palace away as our first point pre season so already done much better than i thought lol. 

 

think we might beat stoke, they can't sit back and defend in a compact way like they did at man city, they'll have to be there for a win and we'll get vardy, mahrez, schlupp running at the likes of shawcross and huth (does he still play for them?) and that will be great. 

 

lose to united. they'll take a week of training, a scrappy 1-0 against qpr then start to click, first win, full squad, beat us 2-0 pretty comprehensively. 

 

draw at palace. scrappy game.

newcastle away could be beaten 3-0 could draw 3-3 or 0-0, could win 4-0. who the fu ck knows.

That would equal = 12 points from 8 games.


 


1/4 of the way to safety.


 


If we followed that formula throughout the season = 48 points from 36 games. Probably finish with 49/51 points.

I am undecided whether to look even 5 games ahead. Every game in the Premiership is a difficult one, for all teams (Inc. Man City, Chelsea et al), and ultimately the whole season is our 'acid test'. I'll take every game as it comes. As long as we remain as driven and as well-organised as we have in the first three games, there is no reason why we can't push on and pick up points in even the 'unexpected' games.

 

I can't see any teams where we are guaranteed 3 points, yet I am more comforted that there are no games that I think we are guaranteed to lose either . . . The key focus needs to be on consistency though - no point in beating Man U and then getting tonked by Burnley and Palace . . . but before I contradict myself, i'll leave it there.

Strong side at home, be a good point here if we get it.

They go from bad to worse, maybe even sneak a win if Van Gaal continues to experiment, can but dream...

Palace (A) - W

Burnley (H) - W

BIG games both of these - these two results will likely mark either a season flirting around mid to lower table or a long fight against relegation. With our squad, I'm confident of the former.

Newcastle (A) - L

Can't see us getting anything here.

10 pts from 8 games equates to 47/48 pts over the season, would be very happy with that.

Ok, so we've got the unbelievable start out the way, performances have been good, results could have been better but still a decent return considering the fixtures. There's a lot to be cautiously optimistic about.

With the international break arriving we can draw a line under the first 3 games, and sort of say our season starts here. The next 5 games see us take on the reality of being Premier League, 5 games against sides ranging from fairly good to bang average to fairly poor.

One thing that I think needs to happen in this spell is our first win, the sooner the better.

What do we all think would be a good return from:

Man Utd (H)

Crystal Palace (A)

Burnley (H)

Newcastle (A)

where´s that thread where we predicted the 1st 5 games I am pretty sure I had us down for 5pts

 

- so a win at Stoke i already predicted plus a couple of points from our 2 home games

 

i am feeling very good after our great start and feel that we can get a number of wins from next 5

Got a feeling it will be a hard fought game at Stoke, I reckon Man Utd's game against us will be the one where they turned a corner and Palace game will be the one where we put in a bad performance, all teams had bad games at some point in the season and we are due one around that point before bouncing back against Burnley like we did against QPR last December and pick up an useful point against Newcastle.

Newcastle are a funny side, they have picked up 2 points from 3 games, only defeat to Man City, but would have looked to beat Villa and Palace.

 

The game against Villa was pretty awful by all accounts but should have beaten Palace in an entertaining 3-3 draw, some winnable games coming up, but if they are still struggling by the time we play them then the fans could be on their back.

 

I really think they are the sort of team we will beat, we will raise our game for the occasion as Newcastle is still a big team, and they won't be able to cope with it, when I look at their side I just see a collection of players and not a team. Undoubted quality in there, but no real heart. They will crumble against sides like us.

Many sensible & realistic posts here. Our great performances so far will count for nothing if we pick up few points in the next set of games, and it is crucial to beat Burnley, especially if we haven't had a victory before then.

I think we may struggle to get even a point at Stoke but, for some inexplicable reason, I have a feeling we'll beat Man U.

I'm sure I saw Stoke only lost twice at home last season? Tough game as is United. After those two we will see what we are made of! our results against Palace and other shite will define our season!

 

3 times, only the top 5 got more points at home than Stoke last season.

 

W10 D6 L3 36 points.
